sarakingdom
1. Strength Training The goal is lower brain difficulty, higher physical difficulty. So each day will be higher volume of one thing. Monday: Pushups. Start with 3x12. Work up to 100/day, then 250/day. Increase difficulty level of first 30.Tuesday: RowingWednesday: Squats. First week 3x12, to doublecheck form. Work up to 100/day.Thursday: RowingFriday: Plank. Start with 3x30s. Then 4x30s + 30s of side (L, R) and one limb raised (4 sets). Work up.Saturday: RowingSunday: Squats (or rest, or catch-up, as needed) If aikido stretches work there way in there regularly, great. If some hiking joins in, also great. Occasional substitutions okay. The rowing might change if I move during the challenge. 2. Sleep for England MORE SLEEP. I have, like, decades of getting about half as much sleep as I need, so I have bad habits. It seems to make a huge difference in how stressed I am mentally and in how well my body responds to the other stuff I'm doing, so many sleep is my goal. Aside from occasional insomnia, my big problem is remembering to go to sleep at night. My plan is to gather up books and my tablet for a few recreational hours in bed to relax and wind down before I sleep. It's a slightly tight schedule, as I have some evening commitments that mean I often get home and have dinner right about the time I'd want to do that, so I need to start trying to arrange things so that 9pm is playtime. 3. Eat More Good I'm doing reasonably well here, but I need the reminder to drop my carbs and try to be more reliable with getting meals in. The carbs creep up, and sometimes the meals don't happen. 4. Lick Boys Be More Social I'm pretty socially isolated where I'm living right now, just due to its remoteness and demographics, so:Remember to post here, especially when the challenge is not going well.Keep in touch with friends.Go out and do something social once a week. 4 Quote I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. sarakingdom
Week 1: Day 1 Meditated. Whoa, I needed that. Like, night and day in the brain. Maybe I should go for a couple of shots.Food is on track. A few more carbs than I'd like while trying to get some meals in, but all from vegetable sources.Kinda worried that the sleep thing last night is kicking off another insomnia phase. I flatly refuse. I want sleep. I'm hydrating like mad and maybe I'll do some stretching before bed, in case either of those are the issue.Got to bed at a good time. Later than planned, but well within decent sleeping hours.Grouchily got the pushups in at the last minute, because it would have been ridiculous to skip a single exercise. I think this plan could work, if only because I'm embarrassed to skip something so simple. PS, IT IS EFFING COLD AND I AM NOT HAPPY. 2 Quote I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. sarakingdom
Good to hear you slept well. And I think Churchill was a champion sleeper. I started rating naps more highly when I read about the daily routines of people like Churchill, who relied on them. Clearly I had been underrating sleep. (I don't think I'll be adopting his alcohol consumption, but, you know, maybe on special occasions. If there's a blitz, or something.) sarakingdom
What show are your images from? It looks like something I would enjoy. It's Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is a splendid show. It's an American cartoon with a very heavy anime influence, a lot of Miyazaki and action shows, and it's incredibly monky. (And, unlike a lot of cartoons with martial arts, they've got pretty darned solid martial arts depictions, mostly of a variety of Chinese styles.) Amazon Prime's got all three seasons, if you're a Prime member. It's wonderfully cheerful and good-hearted, and it's one of my go-tos when I need a bit of cheering up. 1 Quote I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. sarakingdom
Week 1: Day 2Meditated. Food is reasonable. A touch carbier than I'd like, but mostly from reasonable choices. (I maintain the small slice of gluten-free fruitcake with tons of dried fruit and very little added sugar is a reasonable choice on days when it snows.)Hydrating. Hopefully enough. Winter kills me on the hydration front. There will be no problem getting to bed on time, because I am exhausted today. I don't know why, but I have been yawning for the past four hours....about that, the rowing thing. Um, maybe tomorrow... well, we'll see. I've also been kind of achy physically. Not enough to think I'm sick, or put off a workout, but enough to make me think the fatigue is real. You know, maybe I'll swap today's rowing and tomorrow's squats. The squats won't kill me today, but the rowing might. I'll try that after another night's sleep. 1 Quote I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. Kishi
Yikes, achiness in the body is generally a sign of something else.
