Teddie gets a grip.

Ok, lets do an update.

I have to give my husband kudos. He has been really going out of his way to help me out. My dishwasher was unloaded, the sink was practically empty already, and that was wonderful. I put the few remaining dishes in the empty dishwasher, and picked up the areas where clutter creep tend to come in. I threw out a few things in the area I haven't gotten to yet.

We had dinner, and then I literally spent all night working on the invitations for my dad's service. I got done just after 10, and got another fitful night of not enough sleep. But at least that is finished.

I didn't get to hoop. My back was still a little iffy, and I was having a hard time getting my work done with my daughter being overly curious. I was lucky to get my kitchen picked up, my clothes picked out, and the invitations done. But that's ok. It was still something.

Today's gym session was pretty good. It was leg and abs day. But I tell you what, the one-legged deadlifts works my forearms and traps as much as my hamstrings. Oof. Afterwards, I had time for 10 minutes on the precor stair stepper. I was pretty grumbly in my head, and had to be creative and use some kettlebells instead of dumbbells because the only other guy in the damn building who uses the same weights as me was down there... but I got it done. I felt strong and capable, even if I've been stuck lifting the same weights for almost a year. It's still hard. I still get sore. And I'm slowly making progress with how my body looks. So I tried to focus on that.

There's a giant storm outside, I have to write yearly appraisals for my employees, and I'm generally just in a funk today. I even considered skipping lunch to reduce calories, which is freaking ridiculous. That's the kind of rabbit hole I try really hard not to go down. I am making a concerted effort to think kindly of my body, and figure out ways to work with it instead of against it.

I need to do a big chunk of kitchen this weekend. I'd like to try to work on hooping tonight, but we'll see how my funk is when I get home.

Ok, update while I have a minute.

Last night I got a bit done in the kitchen. I got it picked up, and put all of my husband's misc tools in one box for him to go through (I will never know WHY that man leaves his tools in my kitchen).

I didn't get to hooping. But I did watch a couple videos. I was trying to get my phone all backed up because they are finally going to let us bring them in to work (happy dance). I got it mostly done, I'll finish it up tonight. We had a laid back evening, and I tried to go to bed early. It was a rough night, and I ended up on the couch at 1am. I got some sleep, but it was mostly full of vivid dreams. The sleep thing is starting to kill me, I must talk to the doctor about it on Monday.

Today I got a weird idea. My back felt good and I was full of energy, and I just thought, "well, this weight isn't going to lose itself." It was in a positive way, nothing really negative. I just realized that I'm going to have to step it up in the gym and challenge myself more than I have been lately if I want to see more drastic results. I've been just going through the motions on cardio day, especially since my dad died. So I jumped on the precor adaptive motion trainer (which I usually use as a stair machine) and did some hard core intervals on there for 15 minutes. I really got my heart rate going and my legs burning. Then I jumped on the dreadmill and did the most aggressive HIIT I've done in a while. I hadn't run at 6mph in a very long time, and I did varied intervals at 4, 5 and 6 mph. I was dripping by the time I was done.

I have a few side quests I'm playing with, and if I like them I'll make them main quests next time. All three of them have to do with improving my real push ups and working towards advanced yoga poses. Today I did 7 real pushups (REAL guys!) and then practiced both the base of Crow and Firefly. I WILL be able to do these. So far, I was just working on how my muscles felt in the base position (I need much stretch work here), and got my body used to being in the position. No feet lifting yet, but I'll get there. Then I did some good stretches to ensure my back keeps playing nice.

I'm very surprised I went from "OWIE my sciatica" to "RUN 6mph" in the same week, but I think that my dedication to fitness helps my body heal faster. At least that's what I've convinced myself. I'm not going to question it.

I really want to try at least 5 elevators tonight. That isn't a big deal. I need to stop avoiding the hoop because I don't have time for a full session, and just play with my new moves for a few minutes.

In the spirit of full disclosure, here's my two way elevator after a few minutes of practice. I still use my hands too much on the way down, but that is ok - I got it!

Bonus: encouraging baby babble ;)

Please excuse the toddler explosion. I didn't pick up first, I went strait to practicing because I knew I'd keep finding reasons not to :) oh and I have to be in front of a camera most of the day, so Yea my camera presence sucks. I'm generally over it by the time I get home. But I'm trying to do more progress videos!

I saw another great quote today:

"It's called a practice because we're never finished."

Yup.

Ok. Last night I worked on the kitchen some. My husband and daughter had been at my inlaws all day, so it wasn't really dirty. Then I got my clothes together for today, and hooped. I didn't do anything else, so I wouldn't have any excuse. I nailed the elevator after a few minutes (see video above), and I'd like to spend some time on the mini routine I posted earlier this weekend. So that was fun.

Before I hit the gym, I worked on health stuff. I made my husband a dental appt, got info on my daughter's dental needs, and I did a bunch of research on Bio-identical Hormone Pellets. I got some quotes and a bunch of information. I made up a list of symptoms to discuss with my doctor(s) and wrote out what hormone tests I need done to take to a hormone specialist. I tried to schedule my blood draw for Monday, but forgot my doctor doesn't work on Friday. So I'll have to call Monday morning.

Today was full body in the gym, for lack of a better description. The increased reps were hard, but it was funny how 'easy' one-handed, 40-lb, kettle bell row and one-handed deadlifts have gotten. Crazy. After some of the most controlled reverse crunches I've ever done, I hit the elliptical for 10 minutes. It was a good sweaty gym day. Last day of my 8/10/12 reps, I'll increase all my weights to 10/12/14 on Monday. Highfive.

It's moderately quite in here, but I don't have a lot of time to get started on something before it's time to go. So I'll see about making my daughter a dental appt, I can't make a lot of other appointments until I go to my specialist on Monday. How that goes will factor in my next moves. Although I do need to see someone about sleep. There was a new doctor I wanted to check out near my house, but the person who was going to recommend me isn't here, so I guess I'll make that on Monday.

This weekend will involve saying goodbye to some long time friends who are moving back east. I'm tired of saying goodbye to people Then we'll have our best friends over Saturday night for a while, which will be nice. Sunday I have to finish working on things for my dad's service, and I'm not excited about that. I am having very vivid and troubling dreams when I DO get sleep, but I don't think that is going to change for a while. Next week would have been his 67th birthday, and then his service. So it's going to be an emotional one.

I'm 3 weeks away from winning a pot of money for an every-day fitness challenge I'm doing with some NF friends, so I'm excited about that. I just have to keep up my no-zero-days until the end of the month. If I managed it over Christmas with my dad dying, I got this easy. That makes me feel good.

So, progress. Need more progress needs to occur over the weekend. I have to keep going. I know I'm tediously bobbing on the waves of grief, but keeping busy is keeping my head above water. Seeing progress helps. Tonight I'll relax after doing my dishes, and tomorrow I will sleep in (sweet mother of god). Tomorrow is also my carb day, so I'm excited about that *yay pizza*.

Weekend update and week summary:

I got workouts in over the weekend. Bodyweight stuff on Saturday, which included 8 real man pushups! yay! Yesterday I spent about 15 minutes working on my elevator along with parts of the little routine I posted. Then I waist hooped for another 15 minutes, and the last 5 I worked on arm movements from the week class in my online group. 5 minutes of holding your arms out and doing interesting things with them doesn't SOUND like a lot, but oi. It was hard.

On Saturday I went to say goodbye to some dear friends who are moving across the country next weekend. I have been feeling really shitty, I'm not going to lie. I did not want to do anything social AT ALL. So I dyed my hair, put on makeup, dressed in my sexiest dress, and went out. I had a good visit with my friends, and right before I left, one of my ex boyfriends showed up. When he saw me, he literally didn't realize who I was for several seconds. That was the best "holy shit" I've received in a long time :D totally worth getting out of my jammies.

Yesterday, I spent 6-HOURS making the tribute presentation for my dad's service. Holy shit that was draining. My daughter was being a terror, and by the time my mom left I was just over it. Besides keeping my kitchen clean and somewhat tidy, I did not make any significant progress in there. That's ok, it's only week 1 and I got a lot done already. Last night, something kind of shattered, and I was up crying all night. My husband - bless his heart - was so good to me. I hadn't really lost my shit yet, so I wasn't surprised. I am drained today and my eyes hurt.

Today I got a great weights session in. I'm up to 10/12/14 on my reps. Owie. I also got 10 minutes of stair master in. I needed to work some stuff out today for sure. I have all of my stuff ready for my appt, and even managed to get in with the blood draw lady. So, here we go. On to feeling better!

So the last week:

The Kitchen: Got a lot done. Pass.

Hoop Dance: Learned a trick and practiced a lot. Pass.

Increase Strength: Finished my week of 8/10/12 reps: Pass.

Side Quest of Health: Started. First appt today with supporting documentation ready.

You guys are the best. Seriously, your encouragement means a lot to me :)

I had a very good and extremely interesting doctor's appointment. I have a full battery of blood work brewing, and I go back in a month to discuss. He thinks that most of my muscular-related issues are from amino acid deficiencies. Hmmmmm. I do have to take lysine on a regular basis or I get cold sores, so there may be something to this. I went ahead and got his fancy expensive aminos, just to see if it helps. If it does, I'll switch to something more affordable. I'm going to do more independent research, because I don't know much about it.

He has no idea about the hand and feet numbness. I was in a 40 MPH head-on collision in 1996, and my shoulder harness didn't lock. That caused me a great deal of injury to my spine, and I spent years in rehab for my neck. I'm sure it's probably related to a relapse there, so I'm going to have to decide how to proceed on that one. Usually the cold weather just makes it worse from constricted muscles, and eventually it goes away.

He thinks I might not be absorbing my progesterone cream as well as I should, and depending on the lab results might switch me to an oral. That should help tremendously with sleep as well. I went ahead and doubled my cream use to morning and night for the next month, and we'll see if that helps.I took a full unisom last night and slept much better. I was groggy as hell this morning, but now I feel pretty good. He doesn't want to give me something with side effects, and I respect that. So I'm going to give this the benefit of the doubt.

I also did something very courageous for me, and totally anti-fragile. I submitted for genetic cancer testing. We'll see what my insurance says, because I'm not willing to drop too much money on it - but with as many risk factors as I have, it should cost me less than $100. There are a lot of genetic things I don't want to know, but the cancer one would give me a clear defined path, and let me know what to have my daughter tested for. None of the cancers my family has seen is technically genetic - brain, skin (basel), breast, testicular - but it's still very troubling to me that I'm the only one who hasn't gotten cancer yet. I just want to know if it's nature or nurture related so I know what to worry the most about.

I also had a nice heart to heart with my doctor, and I have a lot to think about. He was giving me some different perspectives about how I am already a success. I have greatly reduced a lot of genetic risk factors, and I need to be more understanding with myself. I'm not going to change anything with my routine right now. I know my body is recomping, which is frustrating, but my scale weight might not change much more - and that's ok. If I'm still not happy in the spring I'm going to think about some non-invasive spot treatment options he has for my tummy and thighs, but I'm going to work my behind off until then.

So, adulting. I'm doing it.

Today I'm feeling "better", but still kind of heavy, and sad, and tired. So I did my cardio, did a good stretch, and worked on yoga hand stand poses some. I can see where my issues will be - OUCH my knees in my tricep, and WTF when putting my leg over my arm to extend it in front of my body (such a weird feeling movement). But I'm working on it.

Also, even though he's not on here, I have to give my husband a huge shout out. He's been so wonderful to me since my dad died. More wonderful than normal. On sunday, after making the tribute slideshow, he could tell I was going to crumble. He was so good while I was having my emotional breakdown, which usually just makes him uncomfortable. He does all the cooking, and last night he made me a 'princess dinner' of boiled muscles. I'm eating the leftovers today, thinking about how lucky I am to have such an amazing little family. Last night my daughter told me we should be best friends forever, and that I was her favorite mommy (I always tell her she's my favorite baby). So many feels, helping me through all the dark yucky other feels.

I only have a second, but have a couple updates.

last night I did my HUGE pile of dishes, despite my husband saying he'd take care of them today, and not wanting to deal with them at all. That's a win.

I just called the health and wellness center about the pod bod scan. They do walk ins from 3:30-4:15 every day. So, I have Friday off, and I'm going to try to run over there during that time frame to get it done. There's a slight chance I could do it tomorrow, but it'd be easier to take care of on Friday. I just can't eat or exercise 2-hours prior. I need to get the stupid thing done and over with.

Ok, more later.

Oi. Here's a friendly recommendation. Don't get a body fat scan when you are already depressed. So not ready to talk about it

But I found day care for my little. I feel decididely normal in jeans today (which I never wear), and I've pretty much nailed another hoop trick. Just gonna focus on that and get through the funeral
