Hello Monks! I recently completed my first challenge here on NF and decided to come join you all for this next one. Although I don't currently have background in ANY fighting style, that's what I'm working towards and I figured this was the best place for that! I'm still kind of a Baby Monk, but I am hoping to grow.

 

My first challenge was focused on establishing good habits and proving to myself that I was capable of doing great things. I did pretty well (for my stated goals), but for this one, I'm increasing the difficulty and getting more specialized. Some of my missions are still Adventurer-esque so hopefully that's okay :)

 

Main Quest: Cultivate a healthy level of self-confidence and appreciation! (aka Learn to love reflective surfaces.)

--To me right now, this means getting fitter, getting stronger, and dropping extra weight.

 

Mission 1: Track food in MFP every day AND stay within calorie goals for majority of days +4 CON

--Food tracking >90% and calorie goal met >60% = A

--Food tracking >80% and calorie goal met >50% = B

--Food tracking >70% and calorie goal met >40% = C

(will receive the lower grade if goal percentages are split)

 

Mission 2: Complete modified BBWW/ABWW circuit three days per week +3 STR, +1 STA

--18 bodyweight workouts = A

--14 bodyweight workouts = B

--10 bodyweight workouts = C

 

Mission 3: Complete boxing style cardio workout at home twice a week +3 DEX, +1 STA

--12 boxing workouts = A

--9 boxing workouts = B

--6 boxing workouts = C

 

Life Mission: Practice an act of self-care everyday. +1 WIS, +2 CHA

--I will be keeping track of these for my updates, but I don't think I will give it an actual grade—I don't want to get stressed out trying to complete it when it's supposed to be a positive, relaxing endeavor! I am coming up with a list of these now, but they are mostly small things to do/gifts to myself.

 

**Final assignment: Research and select a boxing or martial arts gym in my area so I can take classes for the NEXT 6WC!**

You have actual rewards in your challenge! How exotic! :D We could probably stand to learn a thing or two from you here.

 

It was all the rage in my Level 1 class! Not gonna argue with a little extra carrot to keep me motivated :)

Love your challenge!! Great goals and awesome rewards too :D

I like the daily act of self-care in particular. I had a similar idea of a Daily Thing I Love in my previous challenge, but an act of self-care is much better!

Nice challenge!  It really reminds me of one of my first challenges here.  The BBWW is freaking crazy when you first start out with it.  If it gets too easy towards the end of the challenge, look up the Adcanced Bodyweight workout Steve has.  That's even crazier.  

 

I like that you have everything nicely laid out for your gradings at the end, too.  Makes life so much less stressful when you have that at the start than when you have it at the end.  Good luck!

Whoo, glad to see I am on the right path then! I was actually reading up on the Advanced workout and thinking I might try incorporating a scaled version on my own—but with monkish encouragement I think I might make it an official part of my goal now. :) I did the standard BBWW for my first challenge and it was crazy how HARD it felt that first day, and how much of a no-brainer it was by the end. Which probably means I'm ready for more of a challenge...

 

My first challenge I had set all my goals for XX days per week, which made logical sense but was tricky to grade at the end when my average was 5.83 whatevers per week, not a round number. So this is me trying to make everything—except the workouts—as easy as I can!

Midway through day one but I am doing well so far! I'm such a brat, but I love doing these updates and I couldn't wait all the way til TOMORROW to post anything. I did my regular BBWW as usual, plus I started incorporating a few modified attempts at a few moves from the ABWW... yowch. It's definitely giving me something to improve on, I can say that.

 

I'm in the midst of a household tidying project, which I'm not counting as one of my main goals this challenge, but I figured I'd keep posting progress pictures as I go so I can have them in one place! Here is the (appropriately nerdy) corner I was working on this weekend:

Ah the nerdy corner is looking good! :) Hmm you might've have prompted me to set aside a little (a lot) of time this weekend to get some hardcore tidying/organising/chucking out rubbish done. I think it might be time!

Official Recap - 12/5 (Day 1)

 

Mission 1: Tracked all food in MFP and stayed on target! CHECK!

 

Mission 2: Completed BBWW/ABWW combo, check!

 

I'm defining the "combo" as full BBWW plus making at least two "honest" attempts towards ABWW exercises. I'm modifying the moves as needed so I can actually complete them, but I figure it will be a good measure by the end to see how I've actually improved for each of them.

 

Mission 3: Did my first at-home boxing workout, check!

 

Embarrassingly enough I was using a Kinect game for this, but I think I might switch to a video or DVD or something that's more accurate to an actual class experience. The Kinect is okay for motivation/interaction, but the camera isn't quite good enough to actually check my form, and sometimes I even had to go into bad form to get the camera to recognize that I was doing the move. So... that's not good. I'm going to try out some other options and see what works best.

 

Life mission: Self-care completed, I did a fancy hair treatment!
