Haku
Does anyone else have an aversion to broccoli stumps? There's just something about them that I find unscrupulous. Ehehehe, me too. xD They have a weird mouth-feel and they're not as tasty as the flowery bit. But you know, you can use those stumps when making a nice strong soup... Because it'll be mixed with the nice part of the broccoli it's not as bad. Add a bit of potato in it to bind the soup (I don't even know if this is proper English xD ) and some salt and pepper and you're done. I think. I guess that's how my mum makes it. When she makes vegetable soups like that, the strong ones that aren't so runny, that isn't see-through-soup, it is amazing and you really taste the vegetables. Everything is fresh that goes in there. You can use that kind of soup-making for lots of different vegetables and this way you wouldn't have to throw away the edible broccoli stumps. Or other veggies for that matter. This way you can even make a brick tasty. 4 Quote If you don't shoot, you'll miss by default. Link to comment

Haku
We have Aldi in Europe as well. It's very cheap. You do need to keep an eye on whether everything's not over the date of expiry, but if you just keep your attention to that you're fine. I don't go to Aldi very often, though. But I'm going off track. Even though there's no Aldi nearby you (within 200 km xD ) I am sure there are some brands that do sell good broccoli, so you can get those. Still, personally I like fresh broccoli the best, the ones you still have to cut up yourself. Oh, and when you're making soups, you can also add all kinds of other vegetables of course. Spinach soup is nice as well. You can even make colour themed soups. Green soups with spinach, broccoli and whatever else you like. Or an orange soup with pumpkin, carrot, red lentils. You can make it as nice as you want. Making soups like that is also pretty good for using vegetables that are almost off and that you REALLY need to use. Just make soup out of them and you can just make a whole load of soup and freeze the leftovers in little boxes, so when you have a lazy day you can just get one of those froxen soup boxes and warm that up. You'll have a lovely meal, quick, lazy, yet still healthy. I love these kinds of soups. Usually I don't like soup, but these ones (the thick fresh filled ones) are reaaaally good. 1 Quote If you don't shoot, you'll miss by default. Link to comment

LittleTurtle
So I found a sneaky way to help keep my water intake up: I usually like to have one black cup of coffee on the mornings that I work, however, that ONE cup tends to make it harder for me to get my 60 oz in. So. This morning, I told myself that I could only have my cup of coffee once I'd finished a whole 20 oz of water. By the time I finished the 20 oz, I didn't even want coffee anymore, and I've actually had more water today (so far) than the previous couple of days. 6 Quote Spoiler PREVIOUS CHALLENGES 2013: 6/1/13 - 7/24/13 - 9/15/13 - 11/6/13 2014: 1/5/14 - 2/19/14 - 4/9/14 - 6/6/14 - 7/24/14 - 9/11/14 - 11/5/14 2015: 1/2/15 - 2/20/15 - 4/9/15 - 6/2/15 - 9/10/15 - 10/26/15 2016: 1/1/16 - 2/28/16 - 3/28/16 - 6/6/16 - 9/19/16 - 10/26/16 - 11/26/16 2017: 1/1/17 - 9/17/17 2018: 1/1/18 - 2/5/18 - 8/13/18 - 11/26/18 2019: 1/7/19 2020: 9/13/20 Link to comment

LadyGrey
I try to make myself have at most 2 cups of coffee in the morning, but I swig on my water in between sips of coffee - and a big gulp in between cups. Before I joined NF, I had just recently cut the sugar/artificial sweeteners out of my coffee. Never thought I could do it but I did! And it was a BIG victory for me and I am so proud of it! It was the one thing I focused on for weeks, and it worked for me. In my last challenge, I broke myself of the vending machine. And as you know, this challenge I am breaking the sweet addiction at home (way hard!). So I am making small changes here and there, but it's working for me! LittleTurtle
Update time. Gah! I don't even know where to start. I woke up Thursday to find our basement flooded due to the water heater taking a crap. It could've been a LOT worse (i.e. we don't have carpet downstairs), and the plumber was able to come out and replace our water heater that same day. That being said, I am SUPER proud of myself for not letting the stress make me go into binge mode - which was exactly what I wanted to do. I've stayed 100% on task this whole week and it feels great. No wheat and no sugar! We went to a bar/restaurant yesterday (to watch football) and they serve terribly unhealthy food. BUT! I viewed the online menu before we got there and stuck to ordering a chicken breast with TONS of veggies and no bun. I didn't drink any alcohol either. It was really REALLY hard, but I feel so much better today! I saw people eating cheeseburgers and pizza and my mouth was watering and I thought I'd go insane, but I just chugged water and chewed sugar free gum. Week 1 - SURVIVED. 7 Quote Spoiler PREVIOUS CHALLENGES 2013: 6/1/13 - 7/24/13 - 9/15/13 - 11/6/13 2014: 1/5/14 - 2/19/14 - 4/9/14 - 6/6/14 - 7/24/14 - 9/11/14 - 11/5/14 2015: 1/2/15 - 2/20/15 - 4/9/15 - 6/2/15 - 9/10/15 - 10/26/15 2016: 1/1/16 - 2/28/16 - 3/28/16 - 6/6/16 - 9/19/16 - 10/26/16 - 11/26/16 2017: 1/1/17 - 9/17/17 2018: 1/1/18 - 2/5/18 - 8/13/18 - 11/26/18 2019: 1/7/19 2020: 9/13/20 Link to comment
