starpuck
I believe, after some hard thinking the last few days, that I have discovered one of my biggest hurdles to this whole ... sort of... mission... quest... thing. I always take the negatives and hold on to them for dear life. Example? I don't look forward to what I'll be able to achieve when I start something. I look back and get angry at myself that I've "let something slip" or I'm "no longer as practiced/skilled at this thing as I used to be". If every time I embark on a path, I look back to something I consider an 'accomplishment', and get all pissed off and defeated that I'm not still floating at that point... well then I'm not moving toward a new direction, I'm only moving away from an old one. In order to not dwell on the past- in order to pick up the controller, play the game and move toward success. I can't look back at old save points and lament about what weapon I had at this point last time, or which options I chose that got me a better party member, or how many rare summons I had collected, or if I solo'd that one thing. I have to delete them. That doesn't disqualify the experience I earned getting them the first time around- I learned stuff in those first play throughs!! But for sanity sake, I need to press "New Game" and play it as a new game. That said - I have to treat this like a beginner. Sure, a beginner with some good foundational knowledge to start off with. But someone with no existing PRs, no 'past bests'. no epic loot yet. There is just me. Starpuck. Day 1. Level 1. A copper sword, and some leather armor and ready to face the world. Here's the kicker... they've not invented selective memory erasing software. So it's there in my brain. I have to figure out a way to not let it push to the front. Even if that means faking like I've got nothing to remember from the past. And another rule? No looking at old pictures, or videos of past workouts and achievements until Dec. 31st. And what I mean by that is, I can't look at anything from before Jan 5th 2015. (I can look at the stuff I take/do between now and then, but nothing older.) I'll be doing this challenge a bit different, as I am going to outline goals for each week. A lot of them will be the same for the whole challenge, but I am treating this as a level one character in a new game. You're not sure what you quite need yet ... but you know you need to get organized. ZONE #1 - The Hinterlands (Week 1) :Quests: 1) Locate your rations. [Get some healthy food in your ration bag. Cut out processed sweets this week! Single squares of dark chocolate for the occasions where you're about to party wipe and need a quick buff until your heal spell comes off cool down.] 2) Get used to carrying your pack and load. [use the training camp to work on your strength, endurance and mobility. Your armor, plus your weapons and pack will probably weigh close to 50# so the goal for week 1 is to move 30-50# things around.] 3) Guard your mind. Do not let either the demons of the fade, or the players of The Game, detract from your goals. [Positive thinking! No dwelling on past crap. Think excitedly toward exploring these things, as if I'd never seen or done it before. Journal your steps starting on day 1, and using only present/future thoughts.] Side Quests To Follow1) Get to the Spirit Healer! (Ear specialist to see if I can get my ears back to hearing normal again.)2) Get to the field medic. (Persistent cyst on my forehead is getting bigger. Need to get it removed, ugh!) (I ran out of time, go figure, when I finally found some inspiration on goals... so I will finish this later hopefully.) for sure. 7 Quote Level 83 ~*~ Ranger Deviant Art Gallery || YouTube Channel Current Challenge "It is difficult. It's on to Assassins Creed Rogue after that! So we might see a game theme shift. rock on.... hopefully I get to see you in a couple months Yus yus! starpuck
Thanks all, thanks all! I am totally leaning on your cheers to try and filter in some honest motivation. The 'game' has 'glitched on me' and is going to make it harder for me to get to my first save point -- because OMG! Winter finally showed up (and we thought we might skirt it) starting about 5 hours ago and tomorrow- the day I intended to travel into the warehouse gym for some exercise, our high is only 11. In fact, our next six days are lined up to have highs of: 11 | 14 | 0 | 19 | 9 | 18. (Not counting windchills, which on Wednesday's high of zero, are being forecast at -30 to -40 unless something changes.) Working out in a whse with three large bay doors constantly opening? Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Day 1 Preparations Fill the storage coffers with good, healthy food for our journey to the next camp. The weather will be awful, we'll need solid meals to endure the cold and the storm. Take the supplies to the field commander. Get them set up wherever he wants them; he'll know best. Make sure our historian is prepared for the trip -she'll need parchments, scroll cases, and ink that won't freeze solid if we're to have her document our travels. Grocery shop before work. Get up early enough to not rush, and get all the good things! <tm>Bring work out gear to work, give the space heater a try in the warehouse. Get a notebook (you have a zillion, pick one that I like best right now) and journal food and exercise. Calories not important, just write it down. 2 Quote Level 83 ~*~ Ranger Deviant Art Gallery || YouTube Channel Current Challenge "It is difficult. All things worth keeping are." starpuck
1) Locate your rations.Hit the grocery store this morning. If I hadn't been so behind schedule, or bundled up and frozen, I'd have taken a picture of my lovely basket of food! I was so prouds. - 2 Apples (Sonya, omg they are still selling them yay!)- 2 Caracara oranges (Like, the ONLY orange I will tolerate other than a blood orange.)- 1 Bartlett pear- 2 cucumbers (I eat 1/2 a day with my lunches typically)- a tub of hummus- a dozen eggs- whole wheat mini tortillas- 4 servings of tuna It's brutal cold this week, so eating cold food is unappealing! I am going to make tuna melt quesadillas on my George Foreman at work! 2) Get used to carrying your pack and load.Dragged my bum back to the whse to get a workout in. - Warmed up for 3 minutes jump roping. Did some shuffle jumps and my knee didn't complain!- Bench Press : 10 X 45# || 10 X 45# || 10 X 55#- Glute Bridge : 15 X 12# || 15 X 12# || 15 X 20#- Inverted Ring Rows : 6 || 6 || 7- Planks : 3 X 45"- Spiderman Squats : 3 X 10- Stretched for 10 minutes, and it felt soooo good to stretch. 3) Guard your mind. Surprisingly, I think I warded off the "used to's" during this session. What helps too, is that I found this very simple, no frills app called Fitnotes. It lets you record your workouts (set, weight, reps) and gives you little trophies for PR's hee. Well it was a new app, day 1, first workout. So it really helped me focus on this being a whole new game. I will update with my food eaten during the day after dinner - since I've no idea what's being served yet. As a note... omg, I am starving right now. At 3pm I am gonna eat the heck out of that orange. 3 Quote Level 83 ~*~ Ranger Deviant Art Gallery || YouTube Channel Current Challenge "It is difficult.
