joedog
I've heard good things about the Shock Absorber. I'm a fan of Enell but we have lots of jokes about it. It looks a bit like the corsets that oversized opera singers wear along with Viking helmets when performing Wagner. My friend at your Crossfit is Amy Kelly. Feels weird to refer to her like that. When we were kids playing rugby she only went by her last name, Bailey, her maiden name. If you called her Amy she would ignore you. I don't know if she's gotten over that or not. Xena
Your last couple crossfit workouts sound awesome! Really inspiring. Very impressive on the bench! (I just skipped to the reply ) Best gifs ever!!! <3 Week 2, Day 6: Saturday was a write-off. I had to work, which meant no CrossFit, because I have to be at work at 8 and that's as early as the classes start, and there are no evening classes, and I can't even take a long lunch and go because there are only 3 of us to work the desk so the schedule doesn't allow. /pout I was basically a zombie all day anyway because the fire alarm in the apartment started to go off randomly the night before. Finally got it to stop after 11, but then A woke up at 12:30, and yeah. Zombie. Got home and HoD was dead so I sent him to bed, because I am totally capable of handling bedtime on my own. I totally am. Except A decided it would be fun to stay awake 2 hours later than he normally does. So by the time that was over I just sat on the couch and read fanfiction until I felt like I could sleep. Day 7: Sunday was a CrossFit rest day. I was supposed to go run with a friend from work, but she didn't get back from visiting her grandmother in time and by the time I realized that the kids were in total meltdown mode. Got a lot of other productive stuff done, though, batch cooking for the week almost finished, went and bought new work shoes and some new tops. I had to throw two away because of grease stains that wouldn't come out. I am why I can't have nice things. Got my writing done and hit my macros, so the day wasn't a total write-off Week 3, Day 1: New week! Started off on the right foot. I had a great hair day, pretty new top, new shoes didn't rub blisters. But it was a professional day for teachers, and the library was open (and the libraries closest to us weren't) so it was CRAZY. Like literally twice as many patron interactions as normal for my two hours on the desk, and roving bands of teenagers EVERYWHERE. So after I took a break I checked to see if the director would be okay with us doing an impromptu movie. She said yes. Oh, well, if I must watch Avengers for my last two hours at work, so be it. I'll take that hit But, like a not-smart person, I forgot to double-check the runtime, so it didn't finish until after the time I would have needed to leave to make it to the last CrossFit class. I seriously thought about just going home, but I sucked it up and went to the city gym to do the WOD anyway. Mobility first, then Back squats: 3x8 @ 70-75%. I did 125 7 minute AMRAP 9 situps7 deadlifts5 push press Rest 3 minutes 5 minute AMRAP same movements, starting where you left off. Rx'd weight was 155/105. I started with 95 and my wrists were killing me by the rest time, so I went down to 75. Not sure how many rounds I managed in the first 7 minutes. I think it was 4, but it could have been 5, I totally lost track. In the 5 minutes I almost managed 4 rounds with the reduced weight. Then it was a 600m row sprint to finish out. I did it in 2:30. I was aiming for under 3, so I was pretty happy with that, although my forearms are still killing me. Did my pull-up work and went home. Working on macros. I took the honey out of my chicken marinade to help make them clearer, but that makes it harder to get my carbs. Need a better plan, but I should hit within 10% tonight. Writing got done on lunch break. I'm closing in on 50k words on my fanfiction. That's almost 100,000 words since October. I didn't think I could stick with anything long enough to finish it, but not only did I finish NaNoWriMo, I'm getting close to finishing this piece. Even if it never becomes anything but a time-consuming hobby, I'm proud of myself. Week 3, Day 2: Planned ahead a little better today. I knew I was going to be staying late for a (regularly scheduled) movie, so I went to CrossFit on my lunch break. I talked to the female coach ahead of time about my hip issues while I was working on my mobility. She suggested a couple of exercises to help strengthen/keep things where they should be. Going to add these to my mobility routine. Apparently this is a thing that like every single woman who does CrossFit and has had children has to deal with sometimes (or at least all the ones I've talked to). She also suggested that instead of kettlebell swings when there's already a glute-taxing workout, I do more of a deadlift and press with a lighter weight. Every 5 minutes 3 roundsRun 400m20 wallballs10 burpees 2 roundsRun 400m25 kettlebell swings Okay, so this was intended so there would be about a minute's rest between rounds. The coach saw that I was barely going to finish in 5 minutes on the first round, because I am slow on running AND slow on burpees, and told me to scale the run to 200m so I could have some recovery time. The next two rounds still sucked, but the last two were better. I did the lightest weight (15 lbs) and instead of swings did more of a pull and press, as recommended by the coach. This was a rare workout in that the closer it got to the end, the faster I was able to go. Then assistance work: 3 rounds8 barbell step-ups each leg (had to use the 14" box because I couldn't get fully extended on top of the 20" without using my other foot)10 kettlebell "lawnmower pulls" (aka one-arm kettlebell rows) each arm Then hurry back to work for my desk shift. Watched X-Men: Days of Future Past with the teens. Had 23 show up in total, counting some who didn't stay for the whole thing, which is my best turnout ever (I've only been doing these since September. I had 6 for the first one). Now I'm staying late to cover the desk because the person who was supposed to work tonight is sick. (But I get to come in late tomorrow because of the comp time!). And I'm updating my forum thread because it's late and I'm tired.) I had a couple of slices of pizza during the movie (because Stuffed Crust pizza), but I'm still short on my nutrition today. I'll finish it off when I get home, as well as the writing. Everything else for today is done! Kind of the best job ever. And during Spring Break, I'm doing daily movies each afternoon. Because otherwise we'll have roving bands of feral teens (one of my co-workers said "If you will do that every day, I will cover your desk time if I need to"). The lineup is Serenity, The Fifth Element, Independence Day, Back to the Future, Galaxy Quest. (Theme is Get Far, Far Away @ your library). I like to think so You may have wanted to go home, but you didn't. And that's what awesome is all about! Thanks! Okay, time to play catch-up. Let's see... Week 3, Day 3: Was planning on CrossFit, even though I had a nasty headache (like a throbbing ice pick through my temples) all damn day. Kept telling myself I'd feel better afterwards. But when I got up from the desk to go home I had a sudden wave of nausea and decided rest was the better part of valor. I did my mobility work at home, got my writing done, and my macros were good. Day 4: CrossFit rest day. C had a follow-up with her doctor in the morning about the nasty allergic reaction she had right before Christmas. Doctor said she has a heart murmur, but it seems like the kind that usually happens in childhood and goes away by the time they're adults. He wasn't worried about it, so we're just keeping an eye on her for now. Not going to lie, I had a nasty adrenaline spike when he first mentioned it. Now we're just waiting on the allergist so we can figure out what caused the reaction. It wasn't the instantly fatal anaphylactic shock kind, but she had hives all over her body and was wheezing, so it was worrisome. By the time I got out of the doctor's office, got C to school, ate breakfast, and took K with me to pick up some groceries, it was too late to run before work. I got my writing done and my macros were good. Day 5: Today had ups and downs, but was a pretty good day overall. Complying with copyright for movie performances is a bitch, and that's all I want to say about that right now. But, I got to go to CrossFit! 5 minute AMRAP of Cindy 5 pullups10 pushups15 squats Rest 1 minute 8 minute AMRAP 3 deadlifts (I did 155, which was the middle weight suggested, because I didn't want to strain my hips too much)6 bar over burpees (there's a special hell for coaches who mix deadlifts and burpees in a workout) Rest 1 minute 5 minute AMRAP of Cindy I got 4 rounds + 21 reps on the first Cindy, 5 rounds + 3 reps on the middle WOD, and 4 rounds + 15 reps on the final Cindy. It was brutal, though. I took my shirt off halfway through the deadlift/burpee combo because I could not stop sweating. Nice to know I finally feel comfortable enough around the people at my new box to do that (although after 3 kids, I've lost a lot of body shyness. If people don't like it, they can damn well look the other way). I did my mobility before and after. I'm counting tonight as pull-up training, because 10 sets of 5 should totally count. Got writing done on my lunch break. Macros are good; I'm a teensy bit over on carbs, but not by much. Tomorrow will most likely be an eating for joy day, since I'm meeting with friends to do a cookie decorating class and then have lunch. I'm going to try to keep it from being too extreme, though. I just have to be sure those days don't become too frequent And yeah, I hope we can figure out C's issue. She's being super calm about not eating stuff from school, but I'm not sure how long that'll last. Week 3, Day 6: Day way out of routine. Had to do grocery shopping early in the morning, then scooted off to do a cookie decorating class with friends, including my BFF who drove in from out of town. Lunch afterwards, then we went to a friend's house so HoD could run his White Wolf game (I'm not playing, but I got to hang out and visit when I wasn't wrangling children.) C and our friends' oldest son made up a game with lines of legos and little characters (Bowser for him and Yoshi for her) that involved multiple levels and challenges. They made it through two levels, and she's very excited to go back next weekend for the Super Bowl party. Nothing done on the challenge; by the time we got home I was wiped from all the people time and just went to bed early, which was lovely. Day 7: Suuuuper productive day. Did the batch cooking for the week, most of it with A in the Ergo on my back because he wants to be held constantly when I'm at home. Went to CrossFit in the middle. Ugh. It was one of those days when I'm the person who makes everyone else feel better about how they're doing because I was so far behind. I'm counting this as a CrossFit day AND a run because it was brutal 30 kbsRun 800m30 wallballs 20/14Run 800m30 SDHP 95/65Run 800m30 front rack lunges (95/65)Run 800m To make this extra sucky, not only is the second half of the 800m loop uphill, but today was windy, and on the uphills the wind blew right against you. Like, I'm not even exaggerating, I looked this up, 20mph with gusts to 38mph (32 kph with gusts to 61 kph for those of you on metric). I walked most of the uphills because it was literally faster than "running." But I finished! No idea of my time because they restarted the clock for the other group's WOD, so I wrote "Stopped the clock" on the board. Assistance work3 rounds of 1 min. banded plank5 shoulder presses10 split squats each leg I don't like split squats, especially when my legs are already shot. Went shopping after because my last pair of jeans finally wore holes in the inner thighs, so I needed new ones. Then I came back home and finished the cooking and put away the laundry in the dryer. I'm really proud that a) we're never letting more than one load of laundry pile up at a time, and by we I mean me, and I did the dishes as I went with the cooking so the kitchen is not a mess right now. Like I said, super productive day. I did my mobility before CrossFit, wasn't able to do the pullup work even if I'd remembered because the coach was kicking us out before I finished my assistance work. Need to finish my macros and my writing before bed, but it's totally doable. Librarian of Doom
Awesome day! And yes...that totally counts as running. Hope the week goes well. Batch cooking on the weekend tends to help. Batch cooking is a serious lifesaver when it comes to not ordering pizza all the time. Of course, one of the things I made was pizza, but it's cheaper when it's homemade. Week 4 (jeez, already?), Day 1: CrossFit rest day. I packed my stuff so I could run at lunch, because HoD was going to a PTA meeting. And I did, despite a couple of minor hiccups (forgot a jacket, forgot my earbuds in the office until after I was changed). Ended up being more walking than running, because I didn't warm up properly because I was in a hurry (only had like 20 minutes if I wanted to eat, too) and my calves kept cramping. But I did it. Did my mobility after I got the kids to bed. Going to finish the writing and macros before I go to bed. Am very definitely not face-planting in the leftover cookies from the decorating class, despite some serious work stress (tl;dr: boss is flipping out about the library social media, we have a meeting about it tomorrow. Probably not anything I did, but still nerve-wracking and borderline unreasonable). Paisley
nice work getting the run in at lunch time. Even if it wasn't the best run it was still out there doing it. Love the idea of batch cooking but never actually managed it myself maybe something for a future challenge.
