Raptron Flips (No Shit Involved)

I love the holidays, I really do. But my go-get-em attitude, 6 days/week workout schedule, and planned eating that was working great for me... and my fitness goals... well...

post-28945-home-alone-gif-im-eating-junk

BUT MACAULAY CULKIN! YOUR FAMILY IS IN FLORIDA? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?! NO ONE CAN STOP YOU BUT YOURSELFFFF~!!!

So hey, we're back, it's cool.

I'm stepping in to be the adult in this situation and protect my house from intruders... er, I mean, my body from my own winter slothfulness. We're settling in for a nice phase of winter habit-building that doesn't involve hiding from the cold and playing Dragon Age: Inquisition during all my waking hours.

This challenge's goals are all about compliance. These goals are familiar, but even if we've seen them before, doesn't mean I've aced them before and they are definitely not habit yet. I want some habits, yo. Habit me like a nun. This challenge presumes 3x/week gymnastics practice and continuing my slightly modified 5/3/1 plan, which I've rebooted to repeat last cycle.

Goal 1: HIGH KNEES, HIGH KNEES, HIGH KNEES

*HIIT cardio session 3x a week

*Must do 4 full floor routines or dance-throughs ever week

Why? Gotta build the cardio stamina to handle my gymnastics floor routines without wanting to die at the end and manage to keep up enough stamina so I don't fall on my damn final tumbling pass anymore. HIIT is most similar to a floor routine in terms of varying levels of intensity

Goal 2: FROLICKING

*Practice leaps and jumps on beam and floor each gymnastics practice, 3x a week

*Bonus points: film progression video

Why? These are big weak points for me in my routines -- they look sloppy and uncontrolled. A TON of potential bonus value can be found in leaps and jumps to bump up my routine difficulty, so it only benefits me in the long run. I avoid them because they make me feel silly and I am not always sure what I am doing.

Goal 3: SHUT UP, DONNA. I DON'T NEED TO TREAT MYSELF

*Comply within ~200 of calorie goals for the day

*Comply within ~600 of calorie goals for the week

Why? I did not maintain as well as I meant to after my previous cut, so I have a higher starting weight for this cut phase than I initially wanted. First competition is Feb. 21 and I want to feel good in our brand new competition leos. Plus, I'm doing a lot more bars work these days and boy golly, is that easier when you have less dead weight.

Goal 4: WARDROBE REBIRTH

*By end of Week 1: Throw away garbage clothes (holes, elastic tearing, irreversibly stained)

*By end of Week 3: Donate or store clothes I don't wear

*By end of Week 5: Second round of clothes I don't wear, plus store summer/warm clothes

*By end of Week 6: Make list of holes I need to fill, can start buying new nice clothes when all previous Goal 4 steps are met.

Why? Cause I NEED to.

HEY, NEW YEAR. LET'S BE FRIENDS.

I'm going for habits this challenge and I've seen many other people doing it too...I reckon it must be a fail save move starting the new year off with habit building. Great minds clearly think alike. Good luck in all your training and I wish you many alots.

Nice goals!  All of the HIIT + calorie counting should help you shed a bit of weight.  I'm with you on putting on a bit more holiday pudge than I wished, and wanting to lose it because climbing is easier when there's less of me to lift.

And yes.. Film the progression video!  Film lots of cool videos!  :)

Innnnnn of course!

I just went through a round of clothes purging between Christmas & New Years. They're sitting in boxes waiting to be donated and I still  have too much crap in my closet.

And I hear you on the feeling silly. Practicing precise and purposeful movement on the silks is super necessary but always makes me feel very self-conscious. I haven't figured out how to get past that entirely, yet.

Nice :) Following because Raptron.

When's your (first) competition of 2015?

February 21, 2015! It's going to creep up on me, I feel it.

Almost definitely. Thanks!

Looking forward to the video! :D Goals sound great, happy challenge!

Happy challenge to you, too, my dear!

For real. Why does gravity have to be so rude?

We'll seeee on the videos. God, I hate jumps so much.

I'm so excited for new wardrobe!

Also lol @ challenge title.

Yeah, right now, I'm trying a jump/splits buddy approach where at least two of us are going to try to work on these every practice and peer pressure each other into doing it even if we don't want to. Plus, it'll be useful to have a friend be able to watch/correct whatever flailing in the air I wind up doing.

Raptron!

SEESTER!

The snack food in the left side of the first gif brings me back. What were Crunch Tators, anyway?

Anyway, nice goals. What do you do for your HIIT?

For HIIT, I've done wind sprints, jump rope, high jumps/frog jumps with toe bounces as the rest periods, or rowing (ugh). Last challenge, I also counted the November Project stairs workouts because I'd sprint as fast as/as much as I could up the bleachers. I don't think I'll do that again this time because I'd get to like 20 sections of sprinting and then I'd fall on my face/shins, plus now it's going to be more inclement weather, so no thanks.

I may do some of those fighter fit HIIT workouts on YouTube, as Nymeria recommended previously because they look more interesting than groaning out interval rows all angry at the gym.

hey heeeey! nice goals. totally in!

Hiiii~ Happy new year!

Love it! I feel you on semi-repeat goals. Let's do this!

Practice makes perfect permanent, right?

Hey there bounceytron

And there is actual bouncing in the challenge this time!

Flip flip flip flip!

I too, am excited for your new clothes! :D

Yessssss.

I'm here! Are you going to photo document your clothes purge journey?

I could! Maybe it would also encourage me to keep a cleaner bedroom instead of the clothes sty we live in now?

Back into the swing of things this past week with only minor slackerage on the workout front (though total slackerage on the adulting front, but that's what happens when you have a week off work). Did a full week of 5/3/1 for my 3+ week, November Project stairs on Wednesday, and a double gymnastics practice on Saturday.

Challenge Start Check-In:

HIIT/Floor Routine Status: Still not choreographed other than a couple of sequences I want to include. Yeepers. Practice tonight with hopefully some time to work on that without feeling self-conscious of how bad I am at this kind of thing. I can't technically do dance-throughs until I have actual dance, so I need to get on this if I want to be able to do 4 this week.

Jump Status: Confirmed with my jump practice partner that she'll be there tonight and we're gonna to work on tour jete 1/2s

ThunderousHarshFlatfish.gif

Weigh-in/Measurements: 144 today, but my measurements are up a bit, so while I didn't actually gain much WEIGHT like I thought, I did likely gain fat and lose some muscle mass, so I'll be looking harder at measurements/progress photos than the scale during this cut.

Wardrobe: Started on a few things last week, but they're all on the floor of my bedroom by now, so we're pretty much at square one for the start of this challenge. I can take pictures when I am undecided about clothes and/or of the ultimate piles of clothes I wind up staying with. Maybe that will help assess whether I need to get rid of more. I am not trying to go full minimalist, but I really do want to cut down on the quantity of clothes I have.

Does muscle really disappear that quickly? My (uninformed) guess is that you've gained fat and lost some of water that usually hangs around in the muscles if they expect to be used (but I don't know?)

Love the challenge! Excited to see your leap/jump progressions (as I am always so excited for your gymanstics stuffs)!

Also I reallllyyyyy need to do a wardrobe purge.  I don't think I have the brain room for that this challenge but next challenge I really think I'm gonna get it in there.

Good luck!

I love those leaps and am always mesmerized by them. But now that you say it, I can see why you'd feel weird (I can't remember the word you used) during the learning phase. I'm excited to see your hard work pay off.

I've been clothes purging, too. And starting in October of last year, tasked myself with buying one new outfit every month for a year. I have a monthly meeting that's my deadline for that month. It's exciting when I have the outfit, but I do have to make a focused effort to get things like that done.

You know, I'm not 100% sure myself. But same weight w/ higher measurements almost definitely means my fat mass is up, so that's all I'm really focusing on. Lifts have been rough the last week, but they'll be back to normal pretty quick, based on my previous experience with breaks.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a long time coming. I definitely have a good number of things hanging around from 2006-2007... Probably should get rid of those at the very least.

So awkward -- like a flailing, airborne jellyfish. I like that you have a deadline, that definitely helps. I'm hoping the deadlines will help me kick it up into gear with the purge.
