The Swampling #11 - Making sure that the floor isn't a ceiling

Swampling

Recommended Posts

In contrast to the above:

Week 1 day 4:

#1: Floor 1:

Yep, first thing in the morning, even if I did oversleep almost an hour.

#2: Sugar Monster:

Yep, no monsters in sight, now that the box of chocolates is not sitting on my office desk anymore. :D

#Life:

Still too busy with (paid by the client) work to fiddle around with the VM. :(

Other than that - I missed my kettlebell class this week because of pony duty on Wed and getting out of the office too late on Thur. :(

Week 1 day 5:

#1: Floor 1:

Yep, but my right wussy was acting up. Somehow a nerve got pinched when I put my weight on in for the pike push-ups, so those were not really my best effort today. :(

Jumps were good, though, and so were the hollow body holds (even though I'm still very much at the beginning of progressions here) and supermans.

#2: Sugar Monster:

The Treat Monster wanted half of the FC's imported Christmas gift (Nestlé turtle) and the FC was nice enough to share with me. :) Other than that - good!

#Life:

Nope.

But at least I got to go to my first yoga class for this year, so that was fun! Lots of low lunges, yoga planks and frog stretches. :)

Edit: AND today my last Christmas present finally arrived - the 14 kg KB! (I felt a bit bad for the mailman. But at least it was just one of the smaller ones... )

Awesome job so far! I would have cracked those chocolates open before they said " indefinitely ".

One question on your goals. Why are you not leveling up after this challenge? You definitely deserve to.

Thank you, Sarah! :)

At the end of last year / last challenge, I would have opened those chocolates, too... ;)

But I didn't want to start this challenge with a bad first week. And the week would probably have made a turn for the worse after digging into that box. Because I probably wouldn't have stopped until the box was at least half empty. And then it would probably have been a case of "I already messed up, so I might as well continue for now and start over next week".

re not leveling up: I feel like I'm in maintenance mode right now more than anything else. Don't really feel like it warrants a level up. I also don't expect huge progress during the first phases of "Floor 1", so that adds to the "maintenance mode" feeling, too. *shrugs*

This just reminds me of every RPG where your only choice for levelling up seems to be grinding on the same thing forever and ever... I too, think you should level up. just for sticking to it! The act of not giving up signifies all sorts of progress all by itself.

It almost makes me feel bad, just going around destroying everything in sight just to level up. I mean, take Pokemon for example: I love it, but aside from "defending" myself and my Pokemon crew when I'm wandering about through the tall grass, I just don't feel justified having my Pokemon beat the ever-living shit out of the same group of Wurmples I find on the first route, just to beef them up.

I mean, I do it anyway, but I feel bad, thinking of the fact that there's no one to take those beat up wild Pokemon, and heal them. They're just lying about, all crumpled up and pathetic-like, after witnessing the almighty power of my group.

I almost feel bad enough to stop... almost. I gota' be the very best, like no one ever was. To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause. And I guess the price to pay to follow that path is leaving a trail of smashed in Pokemon faces, and fellow trainers crushed dreams in my wake :rapture:

--

But Pokemon related tangents aside, Swampling, you're doing great! I'm super proud of you for resisting the Sugar Monster all day, even with all that weird stuff happening (did someone really commit suicide by train though, 'cause that would be really bad :nightmare:).

Anyways, keep up the awesome work! You can do this, I know you can :D

Go Swampling, go!!! :triumphant:

I have a real interest in body weight/ gymnastics/parkour/anything awesome type stuff. I was in gymnastics as a kid and I was OBSESSED, but raised by a single parent trying to make ends meet I had to stop lessons. That didn't stop me from getting every book I could find and trying to learn on my own though! ;) I am thinking of getting the Floor One when I come back from my trip, or maybe just before I go. This stuff will be much easier when I am lighter.

Oh. I hadn't thought of it like that. Hmmm - maybe I'll level up after all, when this challenge is done. :)

Thank you, Will! And you're right - those poor Wurmples... :(

I don't know if it was a suicide or an accident, but, sadly, suicides do happen occasionally on our route. :(

I'm keeping up the awesome work today by following the exercise plan to the letter today! Sunday is the official rest day, so I'm giving it my best shot! :D

Wow Swampling what a hectic day and YOU STAYED STRONG! * High Five!* I have been thinking about that Floor One quite a lot....

Thank you, Tea! *highfive*

Awesome! I had been interested in gymnastics when I was a kid, too, but never got a chance to learn / do more than what we did in high school. :(

I have discovered that it's still a lot of fun, even if things were a lot easier when I was 25 years younger. :D

Keep me posted when you start with Floor 1 - hope you can fit it in with your already pretty (ahem.. extremely) full schedule! :encouragement:

Week 1 day 6:

#1: Floor 1: Stretching day - YAY!

Like Wednesdays, Saturdays are pretty much devoted to stretching after the usual warm-up. I really like stretching day! Afterwards, everything feels so nice and relaxed.

While my back was not too happy with me on Wednesday doing bridges, this time it was more accommodating. Though the right wussy still felt a bit pinchy, but not as bad as before. :encouragement:

#2: Sugar Monster

Ahem. Well, I did have 50g of milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts. One might argue that it was basically chocolate covered hazelnuts and hazelnuts are healthy, right? :P

#Life: VM + Git:

Nope.

Week 1 day 7:

#1: Floor 1: Rest day

#2: Sugar Monster:

The other half (another 50g) of that bar of milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts. I was offered more chocolate by a friend (Mozartkugeln), but I declined.

#Life: VM + Git:

Nope again.

Overall a solid first week, except on the geek goal. But that was to be expected. It depends on how much spare time I have and how many spare nerves I can muster. :D

Ahh yes, its kind of disappointing to think what could have been, but hey we can do it NOW! Yes I will! Once I feel like I can add something else ;) I think everything will be a lot easier with another 30 lbs gone. LOL I wonder if I can even do a cartwheel, I can do a back bend but it hurts ;)

This. Every time I eat chocolate with nuts, it's "healthy, right?" :DDD

Lovely to see you working hard, Swamp! <3 Sorry I've been away, the holidays took me, but I missed you all, so...

Well, when I look at this article about a bunch of more than awesome senior citizens, I think we have lots of time to play catch up, yet. :D

Just wait, and we'll perform with the Cirque du Soleil at the tender age of 75 or so... ;)

The cartwheel still works for me (better to the right than to the left, but that was even the case 25 years ago, so no surprises there).

Do you mean a backbend from standing to bridge???

It's great to see that you're back! How are you doing?

Rosie is doing well, we've been doing a bit more walking these past weeks, since the weather is so bad that we can't use the outdoor arena - at the moment, it's actually more like a natural swimming pond (might want to see if I can get some piranhas or ill tempered mutated sea-bass with laser beams in there - heck, I'll settle for disgruntled goldfish... ;) ), and the indoor arena is just one big circus, because EVERYONE is in there, trampling everyone else.

So, the great outdoors it is... :D

Short summary for week 2:

Floor 1: 6/6 - and I actually managed 5 crow holds for about 2 - 3 seconds (!) each!!!!!1111oneoneeleven

BUT on Monday I also had an appt with the Drill Master. Who kicked my legs' butts (is that even anatomically possible?!)

AND I went to kettlebell class the same evening. Where the rest of Swampling got her butt thoroughly kicked.

Helloooo, DOMS of DOOM. That stayed with me pretty much until yesterday. Ouch!

Also, the right wussy decided to act up on days 2 - 5, so handstands, crow holds, bridges and pike push-ups were a bit awkward and / or cut short.

Sugar Monster: 4/6 sugar free days

I was good until Thursday, when a Dessert Monster showed up and thought it would be a good idea to have some chocolate. Or cake. Or cookies.

I was lucky that there wasn't anything around, and I didn't think it was important enough for me to go out and buy something. This is at least one of the few occasions when my inherent laziness is actually a help. :D

Yesterday and today I had a 40g bar of 75% dark chocolate (split over two days). So far, so good!

VM + Git:

I installed another VM (XP) for another job, and that worked out okay - except that the OS will probably expire after 30 days and I'll have to set it up again after that time. An again. Shared folders between the two Windows systems work like a charm. Yay!

Fired up the Ubuntu (12), but couldn't get the shared folders to work. Although the machine can get online (browser works normally), software updates do not work (e.g. VM Tools updat), and I have no idea if there are some settings I need to change to fix this.

Had to leave it at that, though, because other projects took precedence again. :(

I missed you too!! It took a little while to gain enough energy to set up a new challenge after the holidays, so I arrived at the party a bit late :D All in all, everything's fine and I'm ready to kick some serious a** this year: didn't gain any weight during the holidays and the flu/pneumonia sicknessess have passed. Life's good! :) Did you have a nice holiday?

Ohh, Rosie could try and become a seahorse? And you could compete in a sub-water race with sharks that have lasers on their heads? Or not?
