CoderGatherer - Keeping It Simple

So this is my third challenge. On my first challenge, I kept things simple and focused on small, attainable goals. That worked really well for me. In my second challenge, I made things complicated and tried to do too many things at once. I ended up feeling overwhelmed and failing most of it. So this time I'm going to keep things simple. I'm going to focus on eating clean, training and taking care of myself.

 

Life Quest: Get down to a healthy size (waist circumference of  inches)

 

Quest 1: Eat clean.

Eat paleo as much as possible. During this challenge I will be phasing out dairy, grains and sweeteners. Since the main draw for those foods is the convenience, I'm going to stock up on veggies to use as snacks when I get hungry. Time to start pinning some veggie recipes >>

Rating: {A=every day is full of healthy foods, B= I ate healthy 5/7 days of the week, C= I ate healthy 4/7 days}

Reward: {2 INT, 2 WIS}

 

 

Quest 2: Train smart.

Complete bodyweight workouts/yoga 3 times a week.

Rating: {A= completed workout 3 times a week, B= complete workout 2 times a week, C= completed only one workout a week}

Reward: { STR 3}

 

 

Quest 3: Self care.

Go to bed by 9:30 PM every night. Seems hard core, but I've been fighting a cold off and on for over a month now. Some extra rest is exactly what I need.

Rating: { A= Went to bed early on every week night, B= went to bed early 4/5 week nights, C= went to bed early 3/5 weeknights}

Reward: {CHA 2, CON 1}

Today was my first day back after a long hiatus at work. Half of the office was sick or couldn't come in due to the crazy storm we got. It was kind of nice to ease back in to the work week.

 

Goal 1: Eat clean

Breakfast was pretty healthy. I had a half cup of granola, a cup of almond milk, and one banana.

 

Lunch was also healthy. I had one chicken breast grilled with this awesome spice rub my husband picked up at his store, a cup of green beans, and a cup of carrots.

 

Dinner was not so healthy. The husband was dying to check out the new Mexican restaurant in town, so we tried it after getting groceries. It was supposed to be "authentic" yet was anything but. Then he wanted to try the "skinny margarita" kit my mum got us for Christmas. Bleh! Bleh bleh! So needless to say, I had to have a vodka cream soda to wash away the flavor. 

 

Two out of three for eating clean today.

 

Goal 2: Train hard

I did two reps of Dauntless workout. Almost got to level 1 (3 reps). Next time man, next time.

Goal 3: Sleep Sound

Went to bed at 9:30 last night as planned! Woot woot! It was so nice to have the bed all to myself. And to have total darkness (no electronics). And to not have any annoying music or podcasts in the background (again no electronics). I still need to work on my bedtime routine, but thanks to my awesome workout I know I'll fall asleep in no time tonight.

Great challenge! Sleep is so important, especially in the winter months. I think at some point in our evolution we definitely used to hibernate :D

 

I believe I've done the Dauntless workout before as well. Respect! That's not an easy one. Curse you, burpees!

I have been overcome with the plague that has swept through my work team. Over half the team is out today and I'm seriously considering staying home tomorrow, even though I'm out of PTO.

 

Goal 1: Eat Clean

Ate pretty well today, though I could have done better.

3/3 healthy meals, but I only got 5 servings of veggies.

 

Goal 2: Train Hard

Today is my rest day, thank goodness. 

 

Goal 3: Sleep Sound

Not good at all. I tried to go to bed at 9:30 but didn't fall asleep until after midnight. I'm going to bed as soon as I finish this post. Hopefully some rest will help me beat this cold sooner.

You MAKE them convenience foods! Now I try to prep a plate like this on the weekends when I do my other weekly meal prep.

Still fighting this darn cold. I stayed home from work because I felt like death warmed up. I'll admit that I didn't eat the healthiest today.. I had some delicious pho soup for brunch. My husband tried to make pad thai, but got frustrated and ended up ordering pizza. So I had pizza and cherry coke (my weakness). Here's hoping that I'll feel better tomorrow. In the meantime....

Haha, love the Pad Thai turned Pizza adventure. I hope you're feeling better and will get some nice sleep tonight.

 

I found that listening to audiobooks on youtube has helped me quite a lot when I can't sleep. Especially low paced stuff like Henning Mankell's Wallander or Agatha Christie. Or classical music, or storm noises if all else fails :D

Oh, no. Get some good rest and wait before next workout. Your body needs its strength :)

When I'm too weak too cook because of a cold, I make chicken stock (just supermarket stock cubes, not the healthiest but it's good enough ^_^) and maybe cook some chicken breast in it for extra things to chew. It's pretty high in sodium and low in nutrients, but it's hydrating, warming and gives you some protein :)

Goal 1: Ate well for most of the day. I didn't have any soda, though I did have a skinny enlightened chai charger (so good). 

 

Goal 2: Still not up to working out. Hoping to be recovered by the end of the week. Atleast well enough to do a few burpees.

 

Goal 3: Sleep well. Oops! It's past my bedtime!

Goal 1: Eat well

I started off the day strong with a perfect serving of granola and almond milk. Things went downhill quickly at lunch. I neglected to pack my lunch again and went out with coworkers. My coworkers seem to love buffets so we ended up going to an asian buffet. Yes, all you can eat sushi and fried food. Booo. While I did have a glass of soda, I also avoided most of the buffet. I had a big helping of broccoli and more than my fair share of sushi. Yum! Dinner consisted of a HUGE salmon steak and broccoli, cooked to perfection by my husband. I admit I overindulged. It was just so tasty. And my body couldn't stop eating. It sensed healthy fats and vegetables. I'll have to work harder on portion control in the future.

 

To prevent overeating tomorrow, I've already packed a delicious lunch for myself. It consists of leftover salmon steak, carrots and lots of broccoli. 

 

Goal 2: Train hard

Still not up to training. I"m still doing my daily stretches though. I noticed that they're really making a difference. I can sit cross legged now! Yay!

 

Goal 3: Sleep sound

Unfortunately, I have to work until 10 tonight so I won't be able to go to sleep at 9:30. I will probably be going to bed as soon as I get done working though.

 

All in all, a pretty good day. It could use improvement but baby steps. I am committed to my journey towards a healthy lifestyle. I can do this!

I don't know if its calm and positivity as much as the fact that I usually post at night right before I go to bed. I find that it's hard to worked up when you're dead tired. Besides, what's my other option? Give in to the sense of dread I feel every time I think of how much I am failing at this challenge? No, I can only pick myself up and hope that tomorrow is a better day than today. 

 

I do appreciate your kind words though. You and the other Nerdians keep me going :)

It's definitely not everyone who can do that, some people get in crazy mode (not thinking of Hans at all... xD) or angry bad ass, etc. I like your coping mechanism :) (being dead tired might be a little part of it, hehe ^_^)

While I'm still fighting this nasty upper respiratory infection, I did feel well enough to do a couple of sun salutations. It felt so good to stretch! I also managed to get a full 8 hours of sleep last night. Woot! Tonight I'm going to try for 9.

 

I also tried a sweet new RPG today. It's called Traveller. Okay I realize it's not new, but it's new to me. I played this sweet barbarian bear.....or as I liked to call her a "bearbearian". She started off her story in a village, was then chosen to go on a village quest. From there she went to war but dishonored her tribe.....so they sold her in to slavery to mercenaries. The mercenaries ended up viewing her as one of there own and tried her in the ways of kicking butt and getting paid. So now she is a bear mercenary....or as you guessed it....a bearcenary. Yes bear puns and jokes reigned. I had a really great time and look forward to our next encounter tomorrow!

 

Tomorrow morning I will also be going out with my husband to get groceries. We'll be stopping by the farmers market with a goal to get as much fresh fruits and veggies in our kitchen as possible.That's my goal anyway! I've already started meal planning and this week looks like its going to be full of delicious healthy food. My favorite! Wish me luck on my quest for healthy food.
