Korranation
I'b back for my second challenge! As I was celebrating New Year's with the family I saw a commercial come on for some health apps to start the new year. But one stuck out to me the most; the couch to 5k app. I thought to myself "why not?" what do I have to lose? Nothing, but weight. I already use most of the other health apps the commercial mentioned since they were free and could sync with the health fit app the iphone already has. In my last challenge I learned to build new and better habits. I work out more, make healthier eating choices, track my calorie intake and sleep schedule, and keep up with a daily to do list. I've been gaining weight because of the stress of college, recently changing majors, and taking care of the family after my grandmother passed. I'd love to lose that weight by summer. So 40 pounds by June or 20 weeks. That's about 2 pounds per week which is completely doable. (Shout out to rebel stillskies for her lovely last challenge. It was completely awesome, extremely nerdy, and very inspirational. And I think I'll follow suit with hers.) Main questLearn to master Earth bending! To do this, I’m going to need to be able to travel around to find a earthbender teacher, actually train with said teacher and bend some earth, and have energy to spare. (and after that maybe find a hidden spirit library in the desert for vacation) Quest 1 Find an Earth Bender Teacher(+4 STA, +1 DEX) It's gonna take some exploring to find an earth bender teacher. I've got a lot of ground air to cover. CHALLENGE 1: run three days a week outside (weather permitting) and follow the couch to 5k apps regimen. A: 100% 3 day run completed, B: 67% 2 day run completed; C: 33% 1 day run completed CHALLENGE 2: Take time to stretch out for at least 5 minutes after my runs. I’m really bad at this if all I’m doing is running.A: 100% complete/stretched for 5+ minutes after both runs, B: 50% completed/stretched for 5+ minutes after one run Quest 2 Earth Bending Training (+4 STR, +1 CHA)Earth bending is tough. CHALLENGE: Lift three days a week following the Stronglifts program.[Edit: I'm changing workouts since I don't have the proper equipment for the program] CHALLENGE: Complete the Beginner Body Weight Workout three times a week 20 body weight squats10 push ups20 walking lunges10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug)15 second plank20 reverse crunches (or) ab roller 30 Jumping JacksA: 100% completion three days, B: 67% completion two days, C: 33% completion one day Quest 3 Eating healthy (+4 CON)Food is so tasty. I'd like to stay within the limit recommendedA: Met weekly goal, B: Went over 1 or 2 days, C: Went over 3 or 4 days Life Quest Secret Spirit Library(+1 WIS) CHALLENGE: read. I just started reading again over the Christmas break and I haven't stopped since. I started reading Harry Potter and half way through the third book. Korranation
Day 01 Today was the first day of the challenge! Totally excited. Anyway, for the summary of the things! RunningToday was my first c25k session, and I ran all the way through the workout! This session I took a brisk 5 minute warm-up walk, then alternating 1 minute of jogging and 1 1/2 minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes. I did the workout on the treadmill this morning since the weather was near freezing. and that's saying something. I'm for texas and we are not well equipped for weather under 50F. I ran at 5mph and walked at 2.5mph. Next session I'm going to try running at an incline and go increase my running pace to 5.5mph or 6.0mph (which every feels more comfortable.) On the plus side I got to use my laptop while I walked/ran and watched the first 20 minutes of Howl's Moving Castle. (I think I'll keep to the treadmill only for the fact that I can watch more studio Ghibli films) I was tempted to keep going but didn't want to risk overdoing it. caloriesI stayed within my calorie limit today! It was pretty easy today since I had so much to do I didn't have to to eat this morning, which is not healthy, but I didn't have any cravings. I do save my calories for a sweet now and then. Everything in moderation. I've found it better to have a small treat that your craving vs resisting temptation altogether and ending up binging on junk food in the end. nutrition:calories 1,360carbs: 31%fat 37%protien 32% BooksI'm going to start reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban tonight. I've already read flew through the first two in less than two weeks over the break. Korranation
Hey check out what I can doDay 02 liftingso today was my first day of lifting! And I have to day it kicked my butt. I did the entire workout. except for the squats. I still haven't gotten the proper form down and I didn't want to injure myself doing something improperly. I was mad I couldn't complete the routine. So I angrily did four intense minutes on the rower machine as my dog barked at me for ignoring him to cheer me on. After my morning workout I had some coffee, greek yogurt, and a lovely cheese omelette. I added siracha sauce to the omelette go give it a little kick and it turned out perfectly.Leftover steak for lunch. For dinner I made Paleo turkey ragu, which is ground turkey in marinara sauce over some spaghetti squash pasta. calories 1,210carbs 29%fat 45%protein booksStill on book three of harry potter. Korranation
Its just one of those daysDay 03 Today was exhausting. Clearly doing this "exercise workout" makes for one tired chi. My shoulder are stiff from yesterdays lifts. (That's what I get for not stretching afterward) Walking on the treadmill seemed more strenuous than last time. But I guess I'll have more stamina later if I keep it up. c25k (treadmill)current movie of choice: Howl's Moving Castle 5 minute warmup at 2.5mphalternate btw walking (2.5 mph) for 1 1/2 min running (5.5 mph) for 1 min foodI had a big breakfast but I was so busy the rest of the day I didn't have time for lunch. but on the bright side I had a healthy dinner. Korranation
One of those days where you can't tell if your more sad or just angryDay 04 &05 Confession time. This week has been hard on me. in more ways than one. And I've still got the rest of the weekend to worry about before school starts up. A little bit about me (idk if i've given myself a proper introduction on this forum): I'm a college student studying accounting (it's more fun than you think.) I still live with my parents since its cheaper and they live so close to campus. The pros of this is the free rent, meals, and laundry. The cons are that I do most of the work in the house. I take out the trash and recycling, clean the kitchen and bathroom, cook the meals, and run errands for the family. I feel more like the maid than a college student. I have to plan my school schedule around the family. I do most of it do help out my dad since he works odd hours and often takes small side work home with him. But my stepmom isn't any better. As much as I hate harping its difficult for me to focus on the positive qualities of her. She never does any of the cleaning, leaves a mess, refuses to cook, yet criticizes my cooking, complains of a messy house, undone chores, or anything else I've forgotten. People refer to it as having the physician term "bad bed side manners." Then there's her daughter. She's only thirteen but still a handful. She's a type one diabetic so it's difficult to cook for her. And I hate having to. She tells me everyday how much she hates my cooking. Before she was a diabetic she drank a soda for breakfast, lunch, after school snack, and dinner, plus she could clean the pantry of any sweets before we could put them finish unpacking groceries. Now that she can't have as much sugar her favorite foods is anything deep fried. Next, is her manners. She's a pathological liar. Even if she punches someone she can rephrase it to sound otherwise like " I touched them on the cheek forcefully with a closed hand/fist." And she has a habit of going into other people's rooms, taking another's belongings, and claiming them as hers. I now have a systematic hiding places in my room for my more valuable or personal items. Recently there was a loss in the family. My grandmother passed away last month. It's been hard on my dad and grandfather. They're both heavily goal/task orientated people and have kept themselves busy with work and planning the service. My grandfather had been retired for a few years but decided to go back to being a part time college professor. Since my grandmothers passing my dad has wanted to keep him more occupied and has invited over for dinner and to watch sports. But just last week my dad took on a two week training course out of town. So this week I've still been cooking all the meals and having my grandfather over for dinner. Now college classes start on Monday. and I just ran into a problem with financial aid and may have my classes dropped. I'm stressed about having to deal with my stepmother and stepsister, planning and cooking next weeks meals, making sure the meals live up to their picky palettes, remembering my grandfathers new college class schedule and remembering when to invite him over, fixing my financial aid problems before the last day of enrollment, having the right school supplies, doing fafsa for me and my (biological) sister since she's going to college next year, finding the income tax returns for the fafsa, and a lot of other things I can't remember but still have on my plate. Workout c25k (treadmill)Today's run was weird. I started sweating more and sooner along the run than my first two times. My dvd I was watching started skipping, and I just felt plain tired. 5 minute warmup at 2.5mphalternate btw walking (2.5 mph) for 1 1/2 min running (5.5 mph) for 1 mintotal: 15 minutes liftstrongI'm scratching the liftstrong program and finding a better one. The only weights I have at the house are kind of like this marcy smith machine. I can't do certain weight exercises since the bar is welded to the machine. foodBecause of my odd sleep schedule and workout times I've been having a big brunch and dinner. I'm still (barely) making my calorie goals. But I'm trying. Plus I got carried away with the chocolates today. At least a cook healthy dinners. This week I cooked spaghetti squash pasta with ground turkey marinara sauce, pulled pork sandwiches, and Salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes and green beans. As much as I'd love to try cooking more paleo I can't because of the diabetic and palette restrictions. ( I had a hard enough time getting the family to try spaghetti squash) calories 1,570carbs 45%fat 42%protein 13% booksI've only gotten two chapters since my last point. I'll I can get from these two chapters is the Harry running around doing things he shouldn't, getting caught, and watching everyone stress out about their own problems. Poor Hermione, biting off more than she can chew with her studies and poor Hagrid having to deal with his hippogriff and that annoying Malfoy. I'm glad I got to the part where Hermione bitch slaps Molfoy for mouthing off about Hagrid. His goons Crabb and Goyle seemed at a loss. They didn't want to beat up a girl and their smart enough to know that she's a more powerful witch/wizard among the squabbling group. Better to turn tail and run than face someone and end up with a tail. . stealthstitcher
I don't know if this helps any, but - the thing that strikes me is that despite the irritations and challenges, you decided to move forward with the things you want for yourself anyway. Plenty of people would say, "Well, it's going to be too hard, no point even trying." But you've stuck to the running and healthy eating as best you can through a really rough week. Sounds pretty rock-like to me! Running a household and being a student can be full-time jobs by themselves, so taking some time and making some choices just for you and your well-being are things you deserve. Have you looked at bodyweight strength training, so you need less gear? Might not be your style, but it works for some people. Also, I know you're in the middle of reading HP, but have you ever read the book Howl's Moving Castle? (Diana Wynn Jones is one of my favorite authors, and some people don't realize the movie was based on one of her books.) 1 Quote Stealthstitcher "You see, what you've got to consider is: are you going to be the hero of this 'ere adventure, or ain't you? (Diana Wynn Jones is one of my favorite authors, and some people don't realize the movie was based on one of her books.) That's the thing. Last year I've been so busy helping everyone else out I had forgotten to take care of myself. So my NYR is taking care of myself. And there's no reason I should be saying "it's too hard, no point even trying" because I'd be giving up on myself. And why should anyone ever give up on themselves? So far I've enjoyed taking the time to be good to myself. It almost feels like I'm getting away with something. Thanks for the bodyweight strength training idea. When I first came found nerdfitness the first thing I tried was the 20 minute hotel workout without properly reading the full aritcle. I got carried away with the workout and had some serious DOMS for at least three days afterward. But now that I have a better understanding on how to properly exercise I'm gonna start off with the BBW, try some other free workout routines, and work my way up to the advanced body weight workout routine. I remember when Howl's Moving Castle came out. After it went to dvd, Barnes & Nobles had a sale for it with the book. I snatched up and devoured the book in less than a week. I also watched the movie everyday during summer break, so I've literally seen the movie at least thirty times. I can't get over the art style and the characters in Ghibli's Films. But I've read the book at least five times plus read the other books Castle in the Air and House of Many Ways. And that's a rock fact! Korranation
Day 06 & 07 WorkoutNA. My rest day was today. I never had time yesterday to workout because of all the running around I had to do with the family. Idk if I can even run tomorrow since I have an early mass to go to for my grandmother, run to the grocery store for last minute supplies for dinner, run immediately to school to fix some financial aid mix up, talk with several counselors to make sure I'm taking the correct classes for this semester, find the syllabus and required books/ online material needed for the classes, pick up my stepsister, clean house, make sure dinner cooks in time.I may be able to run before or after I pick up my stepsister from her school. FoodEating this weekend was terrible. When my family wants to celebrate they do nothing but eat out for a week. When my dad got the weekend off we had Mexican food on Friday (Tacos Nortenos), Seafood on Saturday (etouffee), and Burgers Sunday/today. I forgot to record Saturdays calories. This is why I cook for myself. if not its either unhealthy fastfood, to go food, or nasty premade frozen stuff. Plus my stepmom has been having a bad week. And the first thing she does is take it out on me. So I've been locked in my room finishing off the last of the christmas cakes and chocolates. The bad new is that I ate all my feelings. The good news is that I didn't go over my calorie limit and my christmas sugar supply is almost out. calories 1,730carbs 46%fat 41%protein 13% BooksI finished HP&PoA and am moving on to the Goblet of Fire.
