This challenge is quite simple... i need to get back to training regularly and back to eating better. so this challenge will be pretty cut and dry

 

train a minimum of 2 days a week

eat keto 6 days a week, allowing for 1 cheat day per week.

 

since i feel like i've fallen behind in the last month i will allow myself one null week if necessary. meaning if something happens that keeps me from training twice in a week, which let's be honest- shouldn't happen, it's ok. for the keto part,  if i slack on a second of the week that's ok once. if it happens on a third day... that week is a fail.

 

goal is to lose at least 10 pounds in the next 6-8 weeks. this will give me a good foundation to meet this goal. 

 

i'm keeping this short and sweet, i feel if i start off reaching too far too quickly it will only lead to me failing.

 

as always, i'm open to suggestions and feedback

Short and sweet is the best sometimes.  I feel the same, like I kind of need to hit 'reset' and get rid of a lot of the complications that started to overwhelm me while still not, you know, eating Pizza Hut every day.

Great idea man.  My last Challenge was dead simple, just like yours.  I like it.  Sometimes we need simple.  

simple can be good. dimebag used to say "simple is lethal" when writing riffs

 

having a challenge to refind your centre and get your shit together is a good idea, so many folks don't do so well on here because they reach for the stars before they've built the rocket ship

so we'll start off on the positives.

on day two of keto. feeling a little sluggish, but will make it.

did a hellacious workout last night. did an hour of grappling (30 mins technique 30 rolling) in between that we did an hour of strength and conditioning. i did not even remotely realize how out of shape i had gotten in the last 8 weeks i hadn't been to my gym. home workouts can't replicate this type of training i don't think. we did armbar drills, kimora drills, leg swims, side stepping partner's knees while they crunch, jackknifes, donkey kong hops, burpbees, 10 yard and back 3x while carrying a heavy bag while partner runs beside, then switch and run with your partner. do this three times. after grappling, 50 jumping jacks, run the mat, high knees, sprawls.

 

i'll admit, i wasn't able to complete all the donkey kongs nor the burpbees. i also have no idea how many i did of any of those things minus the running with a heavy bag. i almost called some dinosaurs....twice

 

negatives: tweaked my elbow waiting too long to tap on an armbar i was caught it. i'm not as explosive or as fluid as i was 2 months ago. so, i need to be more aware of that.

 

bonus positive: i'll get my minimum second day workout today when i go to striking class. coaches want me to fight a few times this year for sure. :D

 

so, this time of year is particularly difficult with me. see, today marks 14 years to the day that my mother lost her 7 year battle with cancer. tomorrow will also be her birthday. i generally stay a little down from christmas till around march. so i truly thank all of you for your support and love that you show me.

Sounds like a good start physically.  I'm sorry to hear about your mother.  I can't know how you feel, but I'm sure it's rough.  If training helps, that's a good reason to do it.  Do you know what she would tell you right now, if she could?  Maybe that will help.  I don't know.  I hope you can find some peace.

Sounds like a good start physically.  I'm sorry to hear about your mother.  I can't know how you feel, but I'm sure it's rough.  If training helps, that's a good reason to do it.  Do you know what she would tell you right now, if she could?  Maybe that will help.  I don't know.  I hope you can find some peace.

honestly, i'm not sure what she'd say. honestly, i think she would hate the fact that i get punched in the face as often as i do lol. that being said, i've got a wonderful support system in my friends(NF included) and family. i  know i'll be ok just a matter of the blues. it's like the seasons. i know it's coming, and it will pass.

i'm sorry that both of you have endured this as well. as shaarawy said, it isn't something that you get used to. i mean, i am used to it in the sense of daily routine, but not at the same time. each year i feel like "has it really been this long?"

glad to hear you got back to the freaking gym of killing people for laughs the workout you did sounds like some peculiar, sadistic brand of awesomeness

 

doesn't it suck how quickly you can lose strength, poise fluidity - 8 weeks ain't that long at all is it?

 

Guy I know who teaches rock climbing always says that if he misses climbing for a week it will undo his last month of progress

i believe it. one of the guys that's about to go pro was talking to me last night. he said after a week or two i should be back to around where i was when i took off. so, i'm pretty happy about that. meanwhile... the DOMS are strong in this one

Last night: 1/6/15

went to striking class. started with strength and conditioning

all the following were 1 min intervals: started with jogging and sprawling, ladder to heaven(high knees while punching the sky... with 16oz gloves on), pushup plank to standard plank, pushups, squat-thrusts, donkey kongs(jumping in the air, bringing knees to chest), deep lunge hold, mountain climbers, deep lunge hold, duck walks

 

10 3 min rounds of kickboxing sparring

 

6 3 min rounds of mma sparring... which may have resulted a busted lip and bruised ribs.... i'm sore as fuuuuuuuuuuuck... but happy
