TheComebackKid observes Asimov's three laws

Recommended Posts

Hello Assassins:

If you followed my last challenge thread, you'll see that I stepped away from posting on the website for a while, ultimately having a mixed challenge while feeling pretty good about how my life was going that time (personal and work achievements, just not so many fitness ones). I'm coming around late to the challenge as I started doing this on 1/10, so I'll only be looking at 12 points in this one. Starting late v. starting never was a pretty easy decision. Now to the theme:

Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

  • Goal: Exercise every day for 45 minutes minimum (2.5 STR, 1.5 DEX, 1 STA)
  • The key here is injury "through inaction." I've used Nerd Fitness to become steadily more active (even through my willpower outages). I'd like to be doing something active for 45 minutes a day, every day. This sounds really ambitious to me, but when I realize I play soccer one a week and do taekwondo three times a week (and I never miss either). I think it is doable. I will track and post weekly (really, this time I will!)

2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

  • Goal: To actively set three daily goals (work, fitness, life) (1 CON, 3 WIS, 1 CHA)
  • I'm working on some big stuff in 2015, but I know I need to take small steps every day to get there. I will set three daily goals by 9am and keep track of how well I hit them.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law

  • Goal: Avoid alcohol, eat vegetarian on Fridays (1 STA, 1 CON)
  • I love food and I love drink, but I'd like to see what I feel like without alcohol for a while (I was a pretty heavy drinker for years and backed off substantially in 2014). The meat thing is more about making sure I don't overdo it on delicious and nutritious animal proteins.

Looking forward to becoming the robot I was born to be. Appreciate the camaraderie along the way.

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm currently traveling and haven't had great access to email, so I missed the ending to the last challenge and the start of this one. It's been a great ride and I'm glad I didn't have to quit my job to do it.  Now to review my usual mixed performance on one of these challenges:

  • 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  • Goal: Exercise every day for 45 minutes minimum (2.5 STR, 1.5 DEX, 1 STA)
  • I exercised an average of 5.7 days a week and while I tracked it, I clearly didn't post it. I'll give myself a "C" here 1.5 STR, 1 DEX, .5 STA

2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

  • Goal: To actively set three daily goals (work, fitness, life) (1 CON, 3 WIS, 1 CHA)
  • I did well here, actively setting goals every day. I didn't always hit

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law

  • Goal: Avoid alcohol, eat vegetarian on Fridays (1 STA, 1 CON)
  • Result: I did it. A - Full points

Thanks for following and good luck on your current challenge. See you at the next one.
