I am slowly closing in on 1,000 lbs! I noticed some other folks chasing that as well so I thought I would start a thread for those who are trying to reach that milestone! If you have already reached it, congrats! Feel free to cheer us on :D

I know @Castiel, and @Mattyboy7one8 are getting close. Who else?

I tested my 1RMs on 21Jan2015 and lifted....

265 lbs bench press

315 lbs squat

365 lbs deadlift

945 lbs total! I am keeping my progression pretty slow and using a 5-3-1 program currently. I have another informal competition in July and hope to be well past 1,000 lbs by then. I will test myself sometime in April/May time frame...

I'm definitely in, and I am excited to watch other people's progress as well.

As of yesterday:

Squat: 335

Bench: 235

Deadlift: 350 (ugh. I know I can do better).

920 total.

To really count (not that it matters), do they have to be lifted on the same day, meet style? I am going to retest my deadlift next week to get a more accurate read for my programing.

I have a looooong way to go, that's all I know.  I actually haven't tried for any 1RM on any of my lifts.

Right now working weights for 6 reps is:

Squat: 195

Bench: 125

Deadlift: 255

Only been at this since November starting with just bare bar, so still very much in the Novice range.

I put your numbers into a 1RM calculator and came up with ~735 lbs total :)

That is really solid work in just a couple months. Give it a couple more and you'll be putting up some serious weight. Just keep us updated in here on the progress.

What program are you running?

I'm 4kg off it equipped and unless I start moving up weight classes it looks unlikely I'll hit it unequipped.

You also weight the same as I did in like, 3rd grade. 1000 lb would be what, a 9x bodyweight total?

Not out of reach though. She's 125.

Keep working guys, you'll get there, then crush it.

And I have a much longer way to go than you, Roldanis.  1-rep maxes as per the calculator add up to only 377.

My main goal is to bench my body weight.  Unfortunately, my body weight is a whole lot higher than it ought to be.  I'm losing weight so I can meet myself in the middle.  I'd like to have a longer-term goal, though, and this is perfect.  I may never reach it, given my age and gender, but what the hell.  It will be fun to try.

I started my program on Jan 5, and as of today:
- Squat: 120
- Deadlift: 125
- Bench: 90
3 sets of 5 on each.

I'll be back in 2020 or so to let you know that I've done it.  Wish me luck! :)

My Main Quest:  Bench my Body Weight

My First 6-Week Challenge:  Squidwina - A Week Late and 45 Pounds Short

Main Lifts as of 17-Mar-2015

- Squat: 3 reps at 175 lbs  (200 lb 1RM)

- Deadlift:  3 reps at 185 lbs

- Bench press: 3 reps at 115 lbs

- Overhead press: 3 reps at 75 lbs

Heck age is just a number when it comes to getting strong.  I'm 33 and just got started.  It's possible to make strength gains while losing weight as a new lifter (woo hoo n00b gains!)  It's only been the past 2 weeks I'm eating at a maintenance so most of my gains were made while losing an average of 2 lbs a week.

I'm actually shooting for 1200 (ultimately) though prior to tendinitis last time I 1RM'ed I was just a little over 900... So that was about a month ago?  Six weeks maybe?   It was right about the time the current challenge started

The engineer in me wants it it to break down cleanly at bench 300, squat, 400 and dead lift 500 but unless my DL suddenly shoots up an over takes my squats by a wide margin I bet it'll be closer to 320, 440, 440.   For some reason my squat and DL stay pretty much neck and neck.   Incidentally, though I've got a ways to go on this front too, I'd like to hit that at a body weight of about 185, which would be 360.99 Wilks points.

Did I offer advice in my post?  Please keep the following in mind:

  • I am not a doctor nor any other kind of medical professional.
  • I am not a lawyer.
  • I am not a mental health provider
  • I am not a nutritionist
  • Your mileage may vary
  • I don't do anything in moderation
  • I have lots of injuries & if you train like me, you probably will too.

The last I tested my maxes on the big three I hit:

350 squat

215 bench

415 deadlift

For a total of 980. That was before an injury and while I was still training for powerlifting. Who knows when I'll max out on bench again but I'll probably have the extra 20 pounds between my squat and deadlift in the next month or so. With all the overhead work I've been doing my bench should be creeping up, too.

Based on a 1RM calculator I am in the 700 club.  Does this mean Pat Robertson is going to send me a free gift in the mail???

With the help of kneewraps and 24 hour weight ins I'd probably be capable of hitting it in the 47kg class.  Props for conventional deadlifts though.  Too many small people think sumo is the only way to go.

But looking at the IPF standards accross the light weights I'm looking at the 63kg class and being a genetic freak before I hit it.

Wow, I'm glad to see everyone coming in! Just to be clear, 1,000 lbs is my next big milestone, it certainly isn't my ultimate goal. I'm not even sure what my ultimate goal is honestly. I'd love to pull 500 and bench 3 plates. Assuming my squat follows along at ~400+ that would be north of 1200 lbs total. So yeah I guess that is what I am chasing. I'd like to see that at a bodyweight of 220 lbs or so. Or at least <15% bodyfat.

I know the title says 1,000 lbs club, but I am all for folks posting their milestone goals no matter what they are, and encourage everyone to hit those goals. This is not a PvP or anything like that. Good luck everyone!

Given that 1000lb totals are pretty unusual for even elite women but pretty achievable for guys around 200+lb who lift fairly regularly, what's the equivalent of the 1000lb club for women?

Looking at the Wilks, 1000lb at 209lb for a guy is only about 282 Wilks but 494 Wilks for a 62kg woman... Just a tiny difference there!

We had it on the high school football (american) team, you got a shirt if you hit it. At that age, we aren't as big yet, and most of the varsity starters were in the 180-220 range. It's about a 300 wilks on the lower end of that, so I think that's probably a pretty good round wilks target for a big milestone.

This is why I like Wilks milestones so much better. I want my 400 wilks so bad, and still have 165 lb to go. My program calls for 5 lb PRs on each of the competition lifts every 10 weeks, but I think I can hit 20-25 on some, especially early. If I only hit the 15 lb total increase every 10 weeks, I'm about 25 1/2 months out. If I hit 25 lbs each time, it's about 15 months. I'm assuming it's going to be 20-25 lbs for the next 2-3 cycles as I catch back up to my old PRs, then slow down to 15 after that. If I can stay consistant with my training, I might be able to hit it at the 2016 American Open.

It's funny how the ultimate goal creeps up. Mine when joing NF was 400/300/500 for 5 reps each. I still haven't done it on bench or DL (though I might be able to manage on DL in the next year, I've done it for 3 in the past), but my end goals now are more like 600/400/700 1 rep maxes. I imagine if I get there early enough, by 35 (6 years out), then I might want to push for 2000 lb club or 500 wilks, but that's way too far out to tell right now. It'll all depend on how beat up I feel day to day at that point.
