Since you did not mention it, will you be flipping your shit or not?  THE AMBIGUITY IS KILLING ME.

ONLY TIME WILL TELL, MY DEAR CATSPAW.

Day 0.6

Soooo there was a meet yesterday! It was not the best meet nor was it the worst meet, but it was a meet and that's a fact. It turned out that we could only have six compete on each event, which meant that plenty volunteered to omit bars before I had the chance, but no one wanted to volunteer to not compete floor. We wound up drawing a name at random, but the person who got picked only has two meets this season before her hip surgery in a couple of weeks, so I had a Katniss moment and volunteered to take her place. I think it was a good call to make because my floor routine was the least polished to begin with, and I really wanted her to have the chance to compete this week and next before she got put out of commission for the rest of the season.

So that was floor, a ho-hum conclusion to the choreography drama. :P Vault was just a front handspring, as usual, and relatively easy. Balance beam, was a disappointment. I fell twice, which is obviously two more times than I wanted to fall, including on my switch leap which is usually one of my most solid skills. Also, the judge counted my two dive cartwheels as regular cartwheels, which means she didn't count them as a flight series (-five tenths) and then didn't count them as B skills (-two tenths each) which really hurt my starting value. Add the two falls and you get a really really sorry beam score. I was more than a bit annoyed, but she did help me realize that I should add in an extra jump series of B+B just in case something like that happens again.

Uneven bars had a victory for me, however, as I did my first flyaways wearing grips in my whole gymnastics career. Wooo! I also got some valuable advice from the judge there about skill values and a key tidbit of info: two bar changes are required at level 9 but most of my team doesn't have two bar changes; HOWEVER, if you fall or fail on high bar, rest a moment, then remount on low bar and jump to high bar, it counts as a second bar change so you get the 0.5 added to your start value and it negates the 0.5 deduction from the fall in the first place. This means that there is NO reason not to get back up and finish even if you fall (assuming you don't meet the two bar change requirement). LIGHTBULBS, PEOPLE!

Anyway, it was a valuable learning experience and I'm hoping the next three practices will be valuable prep time for the meet on Sunday.

ALSO, I haven't shown you guys are new leotards, which are gorgeous, so I'll snap a picture of that as well. Woooo.

For the first meet of the season, it sounds like everything went really well.  You got a lot of valuable insights for both the balance beam and bars routines, which should help you quite a lot for the next few meets.  It's also great that you volunteered to step out of floor, because 1). it was just a really nice thing to do for your teammate and 2). next time (at presumably a more important meet), you should be the one immune from having to sit out since you did so this time.

Everything sounds awesome!  Great job!

Thank you guys! I'm glad I got some good lessons out of it as the next meet is THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 1! So I need to turn around those tips in a jiffy. ;)

I've got practice tonight, Thursday, and Saturday to make some changes, work on those skills that give me grief, and hopefully have a better performance on Sunday.

@KB Girl: It is exceedingly complicated! This is the "cheat sheet" of requirements and deductions: https://usagym.org/PDFs/Women/Rules/J.O.%20Code%20of%20Points/appndx07_L9-10cheatsheet2013.pdf

Challenge Start

Measurements (metric):

I'm up .8 lbs from last challenge's start, so 144 -> 144.8, but my other measurements down slightly from the last challenge's start, so I am okay with that. Our scale was out of commission for most of last challenge so I had lost track of weight and weight trends, but we're back in business so I can actually monitor my 7-day averages again.

Unfortunately, the recommit-to-the-cut goal of 141 by March 1 seems RATHER UNLIKELY, but we'll see what I can do with the time we've got left.

I've got some footage from routines to review, which is always helpful, and while my split JUMP on beam isn't amazing, it's definitely higher than I was expecting. I just need to clean up that back leg and add another 10-15 degrees. ;)

On time, and yet still super late.  I suck.

Sounds like the meet went well for you, particularlly the lightbulb moment!  And can I say how much I love your 4th goal?  With my blahblahblahs that was what I was aiming for, but all my blahblahblahness couldn't figure out a way to write it for a challenge.  So huzzah, stealing inspiration from you already on day one!
