I'll have time tonight. Putting reminder in my phone because apparently once I go home and am in rest mode I do not think about these things at all. (I was too busy obsessing over making kung pao chicken last night. Nomnomnomnom.)

This happens to me ALL the time, my todo list continually grows every night I sit down on the couch.....and please please tell me you are sending my the kung pao leftovers?!?!?!  mmmmmmmm

YES! I think my shoulder is semi starting to get used to being in a normal position. I've had it successfully in the right spot all day today so far!

Of course it is also really sore because it is working muscles that it doesn't use all the time... I remember going through this with fixing my neck posture a few years back. I say this is progress!  (Because I was always holding the shoulder in the wrong place the muscles on the front of the shoulder going up into the right side of my neck are not used to getting work all the time.)

YES!

And I agree that muscle soreness=progress on this one. Good deal!

Lolol. The leftovers will be in my belly momentarily, buuut highly recommend this recipe: http://rasamalaysia.com/kung-pao-chicken/

I ordered kung pao at lunch yesterday and they gave me something else and I didn't have time to wait for them to correct it soooo I made my own instead for dinner. I'm finding now that I have a lot of the base sauces that go into things I can just make my own and it's just as tasty and I can add veggies and stuff/ tweak the sauce to my personal tastes!

And yeah when I get home evenings on days I decide are rest days especially I am instantly like BEER, FOOD, PAJAMAS, SET FOR THE NIGHT WOOO.

We will now interrupt the regular schedule for some shark week related stupidity. I just looooove this monthly visit of horrible anxiety. UGH!

Last night was full of random moments of panic for no apparent reason and it was really hard to sleep but I did eventually manage. I did go to dance fitness today and that helped a little and I feel a wee bit more balanced! I shall avoid the Facebook and reading news and all the other things that don't bother me at all on a normal day but make me have random anxiety and the sads when shark week strikes.

It definitely helps. For a long time I didn't and yeah not good. I also have a no making important decisions rule and if anything really bums me out/ upsets me interpersonal relations wise I will try to wait until I am in a better frame of mind and see if it sill bothers me then and THEN deal with it when in a better place. No confrontation/ serious discussions during crazy time!

Inspite of shark week troubles aerial night tonight actually went pretty damn well!

Goal 1, the sky is the limit:

Yay! Totally check this off for the week I made myself do two footlocks in the air today. I did one low and then I climbed up 6 to 8 feet or so and did another one later. I think I want to try and make it to open gym so I can practice some basic stuff in the air on my own time.

Goal 2, making right shoulder behave:

This is going well! I've had my shoulder in the correct place 90%+ of the time. When I feel it get out of the right spot I notice immediately and can put it back in the right spot quickly with little trouble. It isn't as sore this week, but I can still tell it has some catching up to do in the strength department.

Goal 3, focus on form

I did some solid inverted straddle practice today. I still can't hold it as well as I'd like but I'm really focusing on getting the hips up even if I have to cheat and use my feet to hold my hips up there in the right spot. I'm getting comfortable working the inverted straddle to hooking the same side leg. Now to get to the next step of climbing up the arms and turning over for the hip key part to complete a single step of inverted climb. Almost there!

Goal 4, photographic evidence:

Argh. I still haven't done the before photo. Going to set some reminders for weds!

Today was a really nice day in aerial. I didn't do anything amazing but I got some really solid work and we had a sub today and she did more conditioning work which I really liked to have in there to work on between skills! I managed to do iron cross for like 2 seconds so that was cool! We also did some single arm hangs. I couldn't hold them for very long but I did hold for one or two seconds on each side and control the legs down (she had us hang from one arm and pull legs up into a tuck.)

Yeah for some reason iron cross I can do easier than straddle inverts. Who knew? Lol.

Unrelated to my goals but we have a guy at my aerial gym that can climb in iron cross basically by rolling himself up the silks while holding the position and it is super bad ass. We had him do it in the finale of the valentine's day show. So cool!

I am determined to get that lovely hips high fully inverted straddle, dammit. Even if it means lots of looking silly using my feet right now to get it there!!

Also, I LOVE that she had us working on climbing the silks with the silk split (hands split one silk per hand but still wrapping the foot around both.) Soooooo helpful for doing split silk stuff further up without having to fumble trying to get the damn thing open (which ALWAYS gives me trouble.) For some reason I was horrible at doing russian climb this way but I tried it with classic climb and had no problems. I didn't do much with it this time but I think I may do this more often when planning to do split work up above. (I kind of think the issue with russian climb may have also been partially the silk I was using. That one was super slippery and hard to grip compared to the other silks I was using later.)

You guyyyyyyyyyyyys LESS THAN 1 WEEK until my vacation. I am both super excited and at the same time AAAAH SO MUCH TO DO. I have a ton of friends I made plans with over the weekend to see them before I am gone for 10 days plus I need to meet up with my friend who is kitty and house sitting and I need to pack... AND I need to take in my bathing suit bands about 2" since they are nearly new and cost a ton and I'd rather alter and keep the same suits and make them fit (and bra sized swimwear costs 50-80 per piece so I'd rather just alter the band size down to 30 since my cup size hasn't changed.)

I will get all the things done! Luckily at work I have things pretty set to go and am getting to point where I am asking people if things are really urgent or can they just wait until I get back (don't want special expensive equipment orders to get here when I am out of the office!)

On the goals front DAMN do I need to get to taking that before photo sometime before I leave for vacation! On track for all the other things and I'm picking up a third dance class for the week tonight soo that will hopefully be awesome. I'm not sure who is teaching though, but at least the people in the class should be awesome either way! (I want to try to fit in aerial open gym on Sunday also... we shall see.)

Oh...and I need to cook my three Blue Apron meals and eat part of them over the weekend plus eat all the leftovers on Monday and Tuesday so no buying any other food for meals between now and then. Yay saving money? Boo finding time to cook. (realistically I have a lot of free time on the weekend between all the things. It's just the coordinating getting to and from everything and fitting it all in!)

Soooo I haven't taken a before picture yet buuuut I totally took some video of me doing some stuff on hammock in aerial!!! I don't know when I will have time to upload it (work all say, dance at night tomorrow and then I leave for vacation at 4am on Weds!!)

I am really proud of my work I did in aerial tonight.

Goal 1, the sky is the limit:

Totally checked off for the week. Made myself climb high and hang out up there for a bit before climbing down on both side, classic climbs

Goal 2, making right shoulder behave:

This is still going well. It still is weaker than the left side but it's getting closer and I caught myself driving one handed with my shoulder in proper positioning using my right arm and that is usually really hard for me and I was doing it without even thinking about it?!

Goal 3, focus on form:

I am so proud of my hip key work today. Soooo close! I'll have these in another few weeks. It really helped when she explained that it is basically a Russian climb using your legs in a lot of regards. Of course I rarely do Russian climbs. Should probably do that more often!

I also did a lot of straddle up work though I still can't quite do it straight legged and hold it there buuut it's getting there. I totally realized I can push myself up into inverted straddle when hanging in cross (similar to inverting over in x back I'd think on silks) with my legs straight!!! I didn't know I could do that until I did it and was like waaaait a second were my legs just straight?!?! Lol yay!

Goal 4, photographic evidence:

I took a progress video!!! I was super exhausted and extra noodley but I did a quick video of a lot of things that are pretty basic and ingrained to me now!

Not on specific goals but I totally learned a whole progress sequence of things I had been afraid to try and new things and got it all (it was not pretty but it's not in muscle memory yet so I am ok with that!!)

Yaaay you guys. So proud of myself! And now off to vacation almost. There is a climbing wall on the cruise ship so I will try to do that on sea days to get some climbing in even if it's not silk climbing. Still uses same muscles!

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack! (Sort of. I'm waiting for my flight home out of New Orleans.)

I did not climb as much as I had planned to (waiting in line to climb with people hanging out watching is just not my thing apparently.)

I did do lots of "pool ups". There was a ledge that stuck a few feet out of the water in the pool that I hung from and did basically assisted one and two armed pull ups whenever I went in there. It was seriously the most chlorinated pool I have ever had the misfortune of encountering so I didn't go in there too often!

I did so many things! I kissed dolphins and snuggled with stingrays and held tropical birds and wandered around awesome Mayan ruins and climbed up a waterfall. I will post some pictures later! (That's not even mentioning the tons of relaxing and reading and boozing on the boat. I did a lot of that too.)

So I did inverted rows (with hands in pull up position) from the ground!!! Aaaah! Pretty much just need to build up reps on these (and also on chin up grip and chin up negatives because yay evenness) and then next step is pull up negatives!!

I did 3 sets of 5 and I think that was definitely max on that for me for now!!

I am almost tempted to get some of those assisted pull up band thingies because I realize how useful it was doing assisted pull ups in the pool with everything in the position it actually needs to be in. Great for getting in the muscle memory! Not that inverted rows aren't good but the positioning just isn't identical!

Vacation fun time pictures to come tomorrow!

And I need to figure out how to get that aerial video on the interwebs! Or maybe I will take a newer epic-er aerial video tomorrow at class when I am NOT as tired... Maybe!

Also! Not directly related to this challenge buuut I got myself back in job search mode and got in an application for a job that'd be a nice step up for me. I've been applying to a lot of things that are similar to what I'm doing but just a tad more senior position and not having any bites, so I figure why not try a bigger step maybe I will have better luck with that!

It's still so frustrating how well my interview in August went and then I have had no other interviews since! I thought maybe if I focused a bit more on applying in higher ed since that is where I am now that that would help buuut the only interview I got was NOT in ed so maybe not. Who knows!

I will persist and find the right job for me! This one I applied to is in the track I'd like to be heading towards, and is also in the realm of all of the things I do but aren't actually in my job title that I just like learning and doing because I like to do my best!

Good luck with the renewed search!

I think negative pull-ups are helpful at most levels, even if you aren't able to do them SUPER slow. If you can lower yourself over the course of even 2 seconds, you are going to get a benefit from doing them. :)
