Goal 1: Fitness

 

My hips were really bothering me today, so I skipped my intense treadmill workout prescribed by my program and foam rolled instead. I also tacked on a 15 minute brisk treadmill walk to the end of that. 

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie with hemp protein + coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: Sauteed red cabbage with pulled beef

Snack: 1/4 cup roasted mixed nuts

Dinner: Pepperoni meatballs with marinara and sea beans

Before we get to yesterday's wrap-up......

BAM. Earned my first medal of the season last night. 

 

My time was 38:10 (which is actually a PR, by a little bit). I started off doing one of my PopSugar treadmill workouts, got to about 2 1/3 miles and decided screw this - I'm going for my medal. 

 

And I broke our bling wall.

Week 2 Day 4 Update

 
Goal 1: Fitness

 

I accidentipurposely earned my first race medal of the season during my PopSugar treadmill workout. I started out doing this bananas cardio intervals workout and had to abandon it at the 24:00 mark - the flat and hills section of the run. I noticed I was 2-1/3 miles in, so decided to push it to get my 5k. I continued on and got it in 38:10 (a new PR). I think I could have been faster if I wasn't dicking around with the incline business (at one point the incline was 15). I have another virtual 5k next month - we will see if I improve!

Lol. You sign up, get your medal and sometimes a bib in the mail, and then have a set amount of time to finish your 5k however you want - for this race, I had the month of March to complete. After you're done, you report back on the website. Some races have timing chips, some do not (this did not - timing was honor system). You can complete your 5k anywhere you want; I chose the treadmill. 

 

The pepperoni meatballs were pretty good - a little too dense (mostly because I couldn't be bothered to do the baking soda addition trick), but the taste was nice. Something a little different.

I imitated a slug after work.

 

Saturday

Got a little walking in, but not a whole hell of a lot - it was disappointingly cold.

 

Sunday

YAY!!!! I WAS OUTSIDE WITHOUT A JACKET FOR LIKE HALF AN HOUR AND I DIDN"T DIE. The rest of the time I spent hot/cold and then freezing/not wanting to face reality that it was actually getting colder in the shade. But, I got my mileage in.

 

Week 2 Grading: A. I had a little off-track workout drama (tightness and pain necessitating a foam rolling easy day), but I completed my first 5k of the season so BAM.

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Friday

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie with hemp protein + coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: Sugar snap pea salad with pulled beef

Snack: 1/4 cup roasted mixed nuts

Dinner: Delivery Thai - gyoza, salad with ginger dressing, basil chicken and half the rice.

Steps: 1352 / 0.4 miles - Ha. I moved very little after work. It was cold, the hubby was still sick, and screw that.

Breakfast: Coffee with cashew milk, mixed nuts, a hand full of macadamia nuts, half a hand of raisins

Lunch: Brunch out - braised pork belly, poached eggs, stone ground grits and tomatillo salsa

Snack: Bone broth

Dinner: I was craving a muffaletta sandwich again this weekend, and absolutely nothing at the grocery store looked appealing - so I got cured meats and had breadless roll-ups with mortadella, prosciutto, salami, cured beef, black olive tapenade, a little bit of aged gouda and dijon. Plus exactly 1 serving of veggie chips.

Protein: 55 out of 70g - dammit. I really tried here and felt like all I freaking ate for dinner was salt and meat. Probably because that's all I *did* eat for dinner.

Steps: 7292 / 2.5 miles - today was horribly disappointingly cold. I got what walking I could in, but we cut the day short.

Steps: 13,590 / 5.1 miles - and most of that limpy since my Docs *still* aren't fully broken in. But, it was in the 40s and the sun was fantastic, so the pain was worth it.

 

 

Week 2 Grading: A. I had a good week, and this weekend wasn't too crazy. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't ridiculous. 

 

 

 

Goal 3: Get Stuff Done

 

This weekend, I knitted, finished silhouetting all my clothing in the app, and finished sorting pictures to send off. I need to print the labels and finish getting an estimate from Peggy Bank. the Scan My Photos box is ready to go out. I also bought yarn for my next project. 

 

Week 2 Grading: A. Things are actually getting checked off my list. Wonderbar!

 

 

 

Goal 4: Get Out Of My Comfort Zone

 

I did nothing toward this goal this weekend. The hubbs was home and we walked in the sunshine a bit. That was enough. 

 

Week 2 Grading: B. The only thing I did here was interrupt my schedule for a doctor's appointment. Which didn't even turn out to be that anxiety-inducing. (score)

I got a late start because I was researching ergonomic mice and the Apple announcement, I really didn't want to do anything, my back was hurting. I forced myself to the gym anyways and did 20 minutes that killed my legs on the bike. I hate the bike.

Day 4 of the PopSugar 21-Day Flat Belly Challenge: Core Circuit Workout. This was a nice circuit, with some moves that were actually great for my hips and a novel one-legged bridge that kicked a surprising amount of my ass. 

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie with hemp protein + coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: The last of the leftover pulled beef with shredded red cabbage

Dinner: Pulled pork and bacon brussels sprouts hash with fried egg

Snack: Half of a rum cake thing the neighbors brought us from Mexico. It was fairly hilarious how quick that cake disappeared. Methinks my DH has missed junk food.

Week 3 Day 3 Update

 
Goal 1: Fitness

 

Day 6 of the PopSugar 21-Day Flat Belly Challenge: 30 minutes free cardio + a 10-minute abs video. It was 50-something so I took the dog for the first walk in the park we've had in months. Unfortunately, he's gotten neurotic over the winter and had a doggie panic attack halfway through the walk. The first half was great; the second half - not so much, but I forced him through it. I did 10 minutes worth of a Pinterest routine utilizing the ball + an 8-lb. medicine ball when I got back instead of the video.

Week 3 Day 4 Update

 
Goal 1: Fitness

 

Day 7 of the PopSugar 21-Day Flat Belly Challenge: Yoga. Today was *supposed* to be 8 poses to detox the body, but my building's yoga was last night, so I made myself go to that instead. And I really need to continue on with that - yoga with an instructor is much better than with static pictures.

Dinner: Fantastical bacon and egg stuffed paleo pancakes

Walked more than intended after work when the bar we wanted to go to was crazy loud standing room only.

Got a little walking in, but not a whole hell of a lot - it was disappointingly cold.

I didn't do much - walked to brunch, but that was about it.

Lunch: Kalua pork with raw snap pea/radish/grapefruit salad

Dinner: Attempted to go out to this bar near our house, but it was too packed. So, we hit the grocery for snacky foods and I took half a damn hour making a decision. I ate half a pound of roast beef from the deli, an order of roasted brussels sprouts from the deli, had half a hoagie-sized baguette dipped in marinara (hubby's dinner, along with pasta), and drank half a big bottle of cider. 

Snack: Goat milk yogurt. Damn I missed yogurt.

Breakfast: Coconut caffe misto + went out for brunch. I wanted the charcuterie board + the tied-for-best brussels on the planet. I ate 2/3 of my pork cheek, chicken liver pate, whipped pork shoulder & speck with lardo plate, all of the brussels and 2 slices of the sourdough bread served with the board. 

Dinner: Brunch was so filling, I didn't want a traditional dinner. And we were at Target, so we got more snacky stuff. Had a salami on the go pack (salami + provolone - didn't eat the breadsticks) + too many Blue Diamond almond thins. And a pineapple coconut water.

Snack: Another Coconut caffe misto

Breakfast: Drama-laden brunch out - had something called a pig pen - it was described as country potatoes topped with smoked pork, cheese, eggs and demi glace. What came out was a plate of cheese fries with smoked pork, a weird sauce that negated all flavor, and 2 eggs. I ate about half, and I fat-girled it, too. Damn lack of self control.

Dinner: Delivery Indian - grilled veggies with a chunk of haloumi cheese, tandoori mixed meats, chutneys

This weekend, I accompanied my DH on a job in Connecticut last-minute. We had the neighbors watch the dog, and while we mostly hung out in the hotel room (because damn, it's still winter and we didn't know that had we brought workout clothes, we could have worked out at Yale's gym), I still spur-of-the-moment followed him. And I didn't get terribly car sick.

I was on the phone with my dad during regular workout time, so I foam rolled while speaking to him and went back and did that PopSugar 21-Day Flat Belly Challenge ab video I missed. It was killer.

Goal 1: Fitness

 

Day 8 of the PopSugar 21-Day Flat Belly Challenge was a 45 minute treadmill routine. The prescribed routine looked like too much damn pressure, so I made my own up: 5 minutes walking, 5 minutes jogging, 5 minutes quicker walking, 5 minutes quicker jogging .... with a few running bursts of 2 minutes thrown in for good measure. I ended up doing a full 5k in the allotted time. 

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Breakfast: Back to smoothies! DH's green smoothie with hemp protein + coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: Leftover kalua pork with cabbage

Dinner: More cabbage! This time roasted with an almond/pistachio/sesame/herb sauce + pork chop

Week 4 Day 3 Update

 
Goal 1: Fitness

 

My body made me rest today. After my second cup of coffee this morning, I was nauseous. I ate lunch - and was then nauseous. And slightly dizzy. And then my DH came home and convinced me to lay down for 15 minutes, which made things better - but then I was nauseous again. I figured doing anything upside down and flipping all around was not the best thing for my body, so I concentrated on making dinner and staying vertical. 

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie with hemp protein + coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: Leftover kalua pork with cabbage

Dinner: Pork chops with a guajillo chili beet puree

Snack: 1/4 cup of mixed roasted & salted nuts

Today was yoga day. Class was good, overall. I sucked at popping from a lunge to Warrior 3, but I've always sucked at that. I got some nice stretching in, and feel like I did okay.

Knitted a bit. Spoke to Peggy Bank regarding my submission - they wanted to charge me an additional $230, on top of the $200 credit I already had. I called, and it turns out I can go much more cost-effective (I had it set so they'd send me DVDs back; by choosing a flash drive, things were much cheaper) - now it's only costing $75 (apparently, my $200 credit was for service only; not service + return options - boo). Scan My Photos also has their box. I did no clothing app work, but I do think I decided on two possible tailors that my not charge me a million dollars to fox my clothing. I hope to get to one of those tailors on Friday after work. I went through my 'to be altered' pile and whittled out a couple of things I'd rather just replace. I think I"ll take whichever tailor I decide to try first a dress - either a simple unlined cotton dress, or a more complicated dressy dress - I don't want to bring my favorite nice dress until I know I can trust the place. I think I have 6 dresses I want done & 1 top. Probably also 1 pair of pants. And at least 1 blazer. And possibly 1 cocktail-ish dress.

Yerp. Yogaed. Quailed at seeing the stomach chubb I was pretending was gone reflected in the mirror as I squinched and scrunched through movements. Kept going anyways.

Yoga in front of the mirror is one of those humbling moments - good for those days when you're thinking (while looking in the regular mirror) 'hey, look at that - almost abs'. 

 

I'm taking it as a good grounding lesson - which is actually kind of necessary, my brain is screaming 'caaaaarrrrrrrbbbbbbbssssss. sandwiches. waaafffflllleeees.' and I should definitely not be listening - I have vacation in the land of biscuits to attempt to behave on in less than a month. I need to *not* undo all my progress before that happens. 

 

Plus: a 5k next weekend + a 5k while I'm gone. And an additional (virtual) 5k to be done some time in April.

Goal 1: Fitness

 

I don't need to be going hard this week - Saturday is my first IRL 5k of the season - but I do need to break in the new running shoes I got this weekend, so I did a quick 20-minute treadmill workout. Ran a mile and felt good - and walked the other 10 minutes of the time. The shoes felt pretty good, but I still need to zero in on the right lace tightness. 

 

And I'm super bummed - just found out this morning that I did not, in fact, RSVP for my yoga on time and I'm on the wait list. Booooooooooooooo. I'm going anyways; hopefully they can either wiggle me a spot or someone won't show up.

Goal 1: Fitness

 

Erm. Yeah. I meant to just walk on the treadmill today and finish out my Zombies, Run! episode I started yesterday. I walked 6 minutes at a decent clip, but then he said to run, so I ran - and kept going for another 10 minutes. This time, I did 7 of the minutes at 5.0 pace and 3 at 5.5 pace. And then I walked 4 minutes to round out a nice 20. 

 

Today (Wednesday), I'm resting. Probably. 

 

 

Goal 2: Metrics

 

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie + hemp protein and coffee with cashew milk

Lunch: Leftover Thai basil beef with cauliflower rice from last night

Snack: Strawberries with sheep pecorino, aged balsamic and black pepper

Dinner: A mostly paleo spin on drunk Belgian food - sausage with sweet potato, pickled fennel and spicy mayo
