kuraiuncia
Hi, I'm Kurai! I'm ready to sink my claws into my second challenge! I'm 27 years old and work in a sedentary but high stress environment. My last official weight at the doctor a few weeks ago was 239. I really really love Transformers and am a big fan of Doctor Who. You'll also likely notice that I have a love of Disney and make frequent trips to the parks here in Florida during challenges as I am an annual passholder. Main Quest:To reach a goal weight of ~200 by the end of 2015 SMART GoalsEat only Paleo/Primal 3 days a week +3 CON +1 STA I will still try and eat mostly paleo for the rest of the week but I still want to give myself some wiggle room here. I'm also going to allow the inclusion of high quality butter to my cooking for this, hence the primal part. This also means I'll have to drink *cringes* unsweet tea on those days!Do a modified Beginner Bodyweight Workout 3x a week +3 STR +1 STA Currently my routine looks like this5 Minute Warmup15 Squats15 Wall Pushups15 Second Plank18 Walking Lunges10 Dumbbell Rows each arm (10 pound weight)15 Second Push Up Plank30 Jumping Jacksx3StretchTry a new healthy recipe 1x per week+3 WIS +1 CON I really enjoyed learning how to cook last challenge so I'm going to do it again! Motivation To be a healthier meI have several medical issues, including two new diagnoses that sucker punched me during last challenge. Working around my issues will be a bit of a challenge in itself as I'll be getting settled on a new medication, and working with another doctor (I'm collecting them like Pokemon I swear). Losing weight will help manage my PCOS and my skin condition(HS), while meditation will help with my Essential Tremor and PTSD. Also I want to be a badass that can eventually jump and scale buildings and land with grace. Is that too much to ask? kuraiuncia
Incoming! I'm starting a bit early! It just makes sense for me since I am on midnight shift. I read some people start on Sunday anyways. May as well make the most of it! Workout Today! (1/3)5 Minute Warmup15 Squats15 Wall Pushups15 Second Plank18 Walking Lunges10 Dumbbell Rows each arm (10 pound weight)15 Second Push Up Plank30 Jumping Jacksx3Stretch I really have got to start doing incline pushups rather than wall pushups. Gotta graduate sooner or later, I'm just nervous because I couldn't do them the first time I tried. It's also why I've got that extra pushup plank in there to work on my arm strength! Today is a Paleo only day (1/3)So far I made a yummy smoothie with avocado, banana, and arugula! Add ins were some almonds, a bit of unsweet coconut milk, a teaspoon of honey, and cinnamon. For dinner we had rotisserie chicken and a mix of sauteed squash and zucchini. For later this morning I have a bit of leftover chicken, some broccoli and an avocado that needs to be eaten. I have only been drinking (lots of) water and unsweet tea today. I did my Meditation this afternoon (1/7)I used an app I found called Stop Breath & Think to do a 6 minute meditation. I didn't really like the one I chose today so I'll try a different one tomorrow. I do like the app though because it asks you to check in with yourself to list your current emotions and suggests a few different meditations that might help with your current mood/viewpoint. 2 Quote ~Kurai~Level 4 Catkind | AssassinSTR 7.1 | STA 4 | DEX 2.7 | CON 12.8 | WIS 8.9 | CHA 4.6Challenges: 1 | 2 | 3Tumblr | Art Tumblr Link to comment
kuraiuncia
Bluh... woke up early and very shaken today. Not sure why this time, I don't remember having any nightmares, but I could not get back to sleep for anything. I even tried taking a little nap before work and couldn't get to sleep. I feel exhausted. I really hope this doesn't spill into tomorrow. I did my Meditation this evening (2/7)Just before work I did a 5 minute meditation using the SB&T app on gratitude. I liked this meditation much better than the one I did yesterday. My only gripe with the app is that I can't use it without WiFi. I don't have WiFi at my house so I have to go to my mothers house, and I'd really like to do them before I go to sleep. I have not done a very good job keeping it paleo today, but out of the two meals I'm having one of them will be paleo! We had Sonny's BBQ for dinner and I ate my salad with ranch dressing and cheese. I also had a piece of cornbread, but at least I didn't gorge myself on french fries. Also I'm sure the bbq sauce there is no bueno XD. I've got some broccoli for dinner here with a bit of left over pork, plus a banana for a snack later. I suppose I'm not doing too terrible. I just should have said no to that bread haha. I will try to check in tomorrow but it might be delayed! I intend to do my workout when I get up, adding in some mountain climbers for the mini challenge when I'd usually do my pushup plank. Not sure how many I'll actually be able to do but I'm giving it a shot. Since I am going over to my buddies house I might not be able to keep it strict paleo, but that's the plan for Tuesday. I'm staying the night so we can go to Magic Kingdom on Wednesday and I'd really rather not try and do a strict day at the park! I will however try not to splurge on junk. Disney is actually pretty accommodating for special diets, I just can never get up the nerve to be that person that needs to talk to the chef. It's not nearly as important as say a person with an allergy, and I hate to take up a cast members time like that. But I've actually read that someone did Whole 30 at the parks with a pretty good success rate, minus an unfortunate run in with potatoes. I'm going to have to find that article again. Anyways! Enough rambling from me. Hoping to feel better tomorrow. kuraiuncia
Quick check in before I head to Disney! I did my workout yesterday but didn't do strict paleo. Gonna try doing paleo only at the park today. My friend was considerate enough to get some salad goodies so I have a salad all packed and ready for lunch I'll update further with more details and my color coding when I have WiFi and an actual computer. kuraiuncia
2/24/15 Got up and did my workout! (2/3)5 Minute Warmup15 Squats5 Incline Pushups15 Second Plank20 Walking Lunges10 Dumbbell Rows each arm (10 pound weight)5 Mountain Climbers30 Jumping Jacksx3Stretch The mountain climbers kicked my rear, also I upgraded to incline pushups and upped my walking lunges a bit. I can def feel it in my arms this time. For the Mini-Challenge: 15 Mountain Climbers total I had eggs and sweet potato home fries for breakfast. I had a sleepover with my friend and we decided to do taco night! We had taco salads with doritos, spinach, cheese, tomatoes, hamburger, and sour cream. Not paleo, but delicious. Meditation was done in the evening (3/7)A 5 minute breathing exercise done on my own because I did not have WiFi. 2/25/15 Meditation was done in the morning (4/7)A 6 minute meditation using the SB&T app on joy. Today was a Paleo only day (2/3)We went to Magic Kingdom so this was an interesting experience. While my friends packed sandwiches for lunch I packed a salad of spinach, tomato, and a homemade vinaigrette. I had some eggs for breakfast before we left. I decided to try the roasted pork shank at Gaston's Tavern which was huge, but not as huge as the gigantic cinnamon roll my BFs fiance ate. They kindly did not offer me any, since I briefed them on this whole 'paleo thing' as they'd say. Later in the day I got a grilled chicken breast from Cosmic Ray's to mix in with my salad. So despite the temptation of fifty million sweets I did manage to stay on track. I will admit that I did bring home a caramel apple, but I didn't eat it yesterday XP. I'm going to do todays update a little later. I intended to do my workout this afternoon but then I walked in and found out I had to work 12 hours instead of 8, and on a day shift when I'm acclimating to nights. Yay, I'm gonna need a nap! 1 Quote ~Kurai~Level 4 Catkind | AssassinSTR 7.1 | STA 4 | DEX 2.7 | CON 12.8 | WIS 8.9 | CHA 4.6Challenges: 1 | 2 | 3Tumblr | Art Tumblr Link to comment

kuraiuncia
2/26/15 Ok, I'll admit it, I didn't get anything done on Thursday. After the springing of a 12 hour shift on me and faced with the prospect of no food I got Chinese delivered and ate terribly. On the plus side I didn't eat the rice? Ha... no. But it doesn't do to dwell on it. Just have to try harder in the future. Why can't places with healthy foods deliver? I'm stuck in a box here! I was also exhausted when I got home from dinner and seriously passed out. No meditation, I flat out forgot. *face palm* For accountability I ate an order of honey chicken, an egg roll, and pork wontons for lunch. Dinner was a better choice of steak, salad (with ranch dressing) and a sweet potato. I also ate a chocolate caramel apple in the morning. The one I snagged at Disney... yeah. That was supposed to be my treat for the day. 2/27/15 I got up and did my Workout (3/3)5 Minute Warmup16 Squats5 Incline Pushups15 Second Plank20 Walking Lunges10 Dumbbell Rows each arm (10 pound weight)5 Mountain Climbers30 Jumping Jacksx3Stretch I only upped the squats today. Yes it was a strange combination. For lunch I had a sweet potato with chicken curry which I'll talk more about in a second. For dinner I had leftover steak. I really wish I had brought some carrots or something else with me though. I tried a New Recipe (1/1)I made Chicken Curry as posted here on Nerd Fitness! It tasted really good. My only alterations were the addition of some carrots, and I could not find coriander anywhere so I left it out. My mom was also a fan so it's going in rotation. Something new to have every once in a while! And now I don't have to go search for the spices. Not bad for an off day. Lilith
I'm a bit biased here, because I dislike tea with sugar, but I'm sure you will get used to the unsweetened taste! When I was younger I only drank it with sugar, and in my experience your tastebuds change when you consume less sugary sweet things! Also, there are varieties of tea like green tea with cherry petals, rooibos with vanilla, or white teas, that are a lot sweeter than you might expect! Maybe give those a try on your paleo days? I think it is great you are going to go paleo, and especially clever you only go strict on three days! It will be easier on yourself, and probably be plenty to give results! And yay on doing so great on your challenge so far! That chicken curry sounds delicious! 1 Quote Level 7 Assassin Cat - Meow! Truth be told once I started drinking it I didn't really mind the lack of sugar. I've actually had some sweet tea today and I feel like it's too sweet since I have been drinking unsweet. I'm also partial to thai tea (It's super sweet with either cream or condensed milk added) so sometimes I'll add coconut milk to my regular tea for a treat. I only just realised you're using 10 pound weights during workout too, I wish I had a set myself as I'm stuck with 1.5kg right now...may have to invest in some new ones now that I've had my pay day! Sorry to hear about the dizziness during workout, I've had that a few times too for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I've not had enough food for energy in the hours beforehand, other times I've relied on sugar alone to get me through or I haven't drank enough water/kept an eye on my breathing. Hope it doesn't become a recurring issue though, you're doing amazingly! kuraiuncia
Sometimes meditating I also have a hard time shutting my background thoughts out. It's something that comes with more practice I guess! But I have noticed that meditating when I am particularly anxious really does make a difference. Also I practiced mindful walking this morning and it helped a lot with a bit of resentment I was feeling. What I feel during is varied, I broke out crying during todays meditation, but I do feel better now that I'm done. I've also once been very agitated doing one. It takes a lot to recognize that it is ok to feel, and to actually figure out why you are feeling that way. That's pretty much what mindfulness is all about really. Before sleeping I did go to the track and walk 2 miles for the Mini-Challenge! I was only going to walk one but this guy was up there running and I felt inspired to keep going. If he can run it, I can walk it. It was very nice to see the sun rising and have a break. Walking was just what I needed this morning because I was angry at a friend and I manage to resolve the anger by lap 3. I was just hurt by them brushing me off when I was trying to explain my goals (here, for health) and ask for help. I've come to realize that they likely don't think I need help, have problems of their own, and really probably didn't mean to hurt my feelings. So I'm letting it go. The anger did have a minor positive outcome. I managed to do art while having tremors. I will admit that I have been avoiding picking up my pencils because I'm afraid the shaking will start but I was so mad that I just didn't care if I messed up. But it turned out just fine. Stabilizing my hand is easy enough. I did my Meditation this evening (3/7)Using the SB&T app I did a 9 minute meditation on Great Compassion Today is a Paleo Only day (2/3)I had eggs and bacon for breakfast. Steak and cauliflower for dinner. I likely won't have a third meal today as I'm going to try and sleep through the night so I can be up during the daytime tomorrow. I did my Workout today (2/3)5 Minute Warmup17 Squats6 Incline Pushups15 Second Plank20 Walking Lunges10 Dumbbell Rows each arm (10 pound weight)15 Second Pushup Plank30 Jumping Jacksx3Stretch I added an extra squat and a pushup. Having minor dizzy spells again today but it wasn't just during my workout. Luckily it also wasn't as bad as the other day. I think I know why I'm having them but I'll check with the Doctor in the morning about it too. I don't want to be feeling dizzy unless I've just gotten off the Mad Tea Party ride. I've been looking into Yoga classes in the area and I found one studio that does a free class at the mall on Mondays so I think I'm going to check that out next week! I'd rather like to increase my flexibility. Now I just have to get over my anxiety of working out in front of other people. 1 Quote ~Kurai~Level 4 Catkind | AssassinSTR 7.1 | STA 4 | DEX 2.7 | CON 12.8 | WIS 8.9 | CHA 4.6Challenges: 1 | 2 | 3Tumblr | Art Tumblr Link to comment

But while I did chow on two cheesy delicious biscuits I did make the choice to have salad, asparagus, and broccoli to accompany my steak and lobster. Not altogether bad. Yesterday was my doctors appointment, which went very well. The dizziness we both believe is due to a lack of hydration. I need to drink more water! Also my blood tests were spectacular with the exception of my cholesterol. On the plus side my doctor was totally on board when I mentioned I was trying out paleo and got really excited when I told her about my 6 week challenge! She also wants me to do more cardio, so I may start doing Couch to 5k 3 days a week between my BBWW and have 1 rest day. My appointments also ended up getting shuffled around and now I'm going to the therapist on this Friday instead of in April. I am anxious about it, but I think I'll be ok. Today is my day shift, ugh Thursdays. I am super tired and I don't know what I am going to get done today but unlike last week it's just an 8 hour day. I will try to do my workout this evening but I don't think it's going to be a strict paleo day. I didn't bring any food with me today. Whoops, this again. I will update either this evening or tomorrow morning once I see what I actually get done! Also I realized that week 4 into week 5 of this is going to be a whirlwind of a time. A bachelorette party on Saturday, my family coming down on Sunday, going with my baby cousins to Disney Monday through Thursday, and Relay for Life on Friday. I'll likely be having a hard time eating paleo on most of those days. Guess it'll be a good time to put Disney to the test! Also getting up and doing a body weight workout when little cousins want to go to all the parks 4 days in a row... haha, I'm gonna fail that so badly. I'm going to have to see if I can figure a way to squeeze it in. I'm already aware that doing 4 parks in 4 days is a ticket to exhaustion, been there done that. Definitely won't be running that week, except maybe for the relay. I'm going to need a vacation from my vacation! 1 Quote ~Kurai~Level 4 Catkind | AssassinSTR 7.1 | STA 4 | DEX 2.7 | CON 12.8 | WIS 8.9 | CHA 4.6Challenges: 1 | 2 | 3Tumblr | Art Tumblr Link to comment
kuraiuncia
3/5/15 No I didn't do strict paleo at all. Honey chicken and an egg roll for lunch and bbq pulled pork with coleslaw and a sweet potato for dinner. I didn't do my workout either. Actually I spent most of the night working on a poster for a Relay for Life fundraiser we're doing on Saturday. Also while I was outside barefoot *facepalm* I got stung by something. Heck if I know what but it still hurts today. Right on the bottom of my foot. There's no stinger in it and I didn't see what got me but dang I felt it through to my ankle. I did my Meditation before bed (5/7)Using the SB&T app I did a 6 minute meditation Relax, Ground, and Clear. 3/6/15 Today is a Paleo Only day (3/3)I made spinach, bacon, and mushroom stuffed chicken breasts for dinner with some squash and zucchini to go with it. For dinner I have a leftover stuffed chicken breast and a sweet potato. I've also only had unsweet tea today. I'm currently drinking an Irish breakfast blend unsweetened coconut milk in it. Yum. I tried a New Recipe (1/1)I tried out this recipe for spinach stuffed chicken breast today and it turned out great! I'll do I did my Meditation before bed (6/7)Using the SB&T app I did the 8 minute meditation Body Scan (I will update and reword this tomorrow, and take it out if I forget I remembered) I didn't get to do my workout tonight. I was just really not feeling it. The day has been stressful to say the least, but tomorrow it will get done! 1 Quote ~Kurai~Level 4 Catkind | AssassinSTR 7.1 | STA 4 | DEX 2.7 | CON 12.8 | WIS 8.9 | CHA 4.6Challenges: 1 | 2 | 3Tumblr | Art Tumblr Link to comment
