... and somehow kicking it up a notch, through no fault of my own

Goal #1: Floor 1
I'm still working on the GMB program "Floor 1", still in the very first phase of the beginner's program. As long as I can't consistently hold a crow pose, that's where I'm going to stay. I have managed to hold the balance for a couple of seconds (PR as of today: 15 seconds!!!), but there are still days when I don't get the balance at all.
Though considering today's new PR, I hope to progress to the next phase sometime during this challenge. ;)

For now, F1 practice will happen 6/7 days a week.

If work allows, I'll also aim for the usual 2 kettlebell classes + 1 yoga class per week. And, of course, there's Rosie, my part-time pony.

Goal #2: Keep the Emo Sugar Monsters in check
Thanks to my Lent-ing atheist friend, I'll be trying to stay Sugar Monster free on 36 / 42 days. *glup* This is going to be HARD, especially since I'll be under a lot of pressure at work, and that is usually a good opportunity for the Emo Snack Monster to ambush me.
I'm going to need all the help I can get!

Aiming for: 1 lonely Sugar Monster per week.

Goal #3: No alcohol, also thanks to my friend.
Since I had been down to 1 glass of wine per week, anyway, that shouldn't be too hard. Unless I go visit my parents.
Wait, that sounds wrong...

Aiming for: 0 alcoholic beverages at all.

Life Goal: Set up a better working environment with Git and possibly a VM for development
  • Try setting up an Ubuntu VM on a stick so I can take it home with me.
  • Set up Apache + same PHP version as current dev machine on said Ubuntu VM.
  • Figure out which DB to use (DB on current dev server? local DB on VM?).
  • Install Git on VM, clone project data and set up repo so that we all can work with it.
  • Git happily ever after.

Not sure if I'll have much time for that, but we will see.

I would have loved to join the 10.000 Swing challenge, too, but I don't think it will work this time around. :(

Oh, and let's not forget the usual fire engine red battle cry...

WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???!!!

I don't think I could make it thru a parent visit with out booze either!

Kick the shit outta that sugar monster!

Thank you, Sarah!

The problem here is rather that my Dad is used to having his glass of wine with dinner, not that I'd need it to make it through the visit. :D

Also, Dad's used to getting his piece of dark chocolate with his coffee, which makes the Sugar Monster deal just as hard. :nightmare:

I usually don't have that much discipline to decline the good stuff when it's right in front of my nose. :(

I usually don't have a big problem staying away from wine. Staying away from chocolate is the much, much harder part of this deal.

Plus, I should probably explain that fruit and honey (in sensible quantities :P) are still allowed.

Sugar, candy, chocolate, cookies, cakes etc. are not except for once a week.

Not a problem, an opportunity to practice your challenge!

For alcohol, I recommend finding a substitute drink. Club soda, lime, and bitters worked for me.

For sugar/sweets, what about keeping a pack of sugarfree gum on you to pop in your mouth when temptation hits?

That's an awesome way to see it! I may need a reminder of this once I get to stay with my parents. :)

Good idea going for substitutes!

Though I probably won't need one for the wine. I tend to mostly drink stuff that starts with a w (water, wine, whisky - and tea, which is nothing but water that I've thrown a couple of dried herbs at...). So I'll stick to the usual water and tea.

Regarding sweets - I've never been a gum person, really. I'd have to give it a try.

Raw almonds or nuts work well for me here, too - I only need to be careful not to have too large quantities of those around, :nevreness:

Here we go!! You've got a very challenging challenge ahead, Swamps. Avoiding the Emo Sugar Monsters will be tough, but you can't succeed without trying, right? Focus on breathing and having healthy snacks around. You can do this! D8<

I made it! I made it through Day 1 without a Sugar Monster, although stress levels were rising!

I even declined my team-mate's offer to share her nut pastry, even though I was pretty hungry (or I should say "hangry") by then.

1 down, 41 to go... :encouragement:

Glad you had a solid first day.  Fruit is always a great snack when you are "hangry!"  Maybe something like a crisp pear (if they are even in season?)

Unless I go visit my parents.

Wait, that sounds wrong...

The harsh truth tho.  I myself cant say no to them & they shower me in alcohol & chocolate on every visit...

Very difficult goals.   Keep strong !

Could be that there are still some kinds of pear in season that are grown more or less regionally. I know I can still get "sort of local" apples. :) I'll have to check!

Day 2 went very well, considering:

F1 practice done, and I stayed Sugar Monster free again.

Today was easy, because I was pretty much on my own for lunch at the office, meaning no one there to bring any dessert.

Let's see what tomorrow will bring. :)
