I really don't have a big, pretty speech to make this time. Just need to eat good food, workout, and take care of myself. 

 

Goal One: Workout!

I made up a circuit for myself that I think will be a good focus for this round, comprised of some kettlebell stuff and body weight stuff. I'll explain in detail later. If I want to sub something of greater or equal intensity though, that's fine. 

 

3 workouts per week.

 

A = 18pts   B =15pts   C = 12 pts   D = 9pts   F = <9 

 

 

 

Goal Two: Eat well!

If I've learned one thing from the bajillion challenges I've done, it's that I suck with diet goals. I'm going to focus on preparation and habits this time, rather than elaborate rules. Plus the very act of making myself track food instantly improves the quality of my choices. 

1. Bring lunch to work. 1 pt per day.

2. Plan weekly menu. 2 pts per week. 

3. Weekend food prep - batch cooking, veggie cutting, and freezer meal making.  5 pts per week. 

4. Food tracking (via MFP). 1 pt per day. 

 

A = 66pts   B = 55pts   C = 44pts   D = 33pts   F = <30 

 

 

 

Goal Three: Walk a bunch!

I got a fancy schmancy pedometer (It's not really fancy, actually, but it makes me happy) a couple weeks ago, and I am finding it very motivating. I've been hitting 5500 - 6500 steps most days (Although I always seem to have one abysmal day that brings my weekly average down :P) so I want to keep inches things upwards. 

 

Week One: 6250 average (43,750)

Week Two: 6500 average (45,500)

Week Three: 6750 average (47,250)

Week Four: 7000 average (49,000)

Week Five: 7000 average (49,000)

Week Six: 7000 average. (49,000)

 

A = 283,500 steps   B =278,000 steps   C =273,000 steps    D =268,000 steps     F = <250,000

 

 
 
Goal Four: Use your brain! 
My brain needs to start working out again just as much as my body does! 6 days a week I am going to either:
1. Meditate
2. Learn something (Hello Khan Academy!)
3. Make some art. (Repetitive stuff I can do without much thinking, aka crocheting, does not count)
4. Play piano. 
5. Read some non-fiction. 
 

A = 36pts   B =30pts   C =24pts   D = 18pts  F = <18 

 
 
Okay, it's simple and it's plain. But it's exactly what I need to do!

Thank you, everyone :) I'm excited to get down to business.

@KBgirl: Khan Academy is a free online... Well, school, basically! It has pretty much all the curriculum from elementary and secondary school, and quite a few advanced topics. I haven't explored that much of it, but the lessons are in video format, and at least for the math stuff, there's questions to work through. I was attempting to (re?)learn high school algebra last year, and I want to pick it up again.

Well, lunch has been brought today - delicious leftover roast beef and mashed potatoes. I am thinking of amending my food goal to include something about not buying additional food at work - I'm pretty good about bringing food, but sometimes it's not enough, or I eat it too early and I end up buying something else. And there is not much around for good choices - overpriced fruit cups and wilty salads are the least awful. Actually, there are usually some good soup options, so maybe a once-weekly exception for soup?

What are the exercises for your circuit? In my signature there is a link to the walking PVP I've joined. Thought you might want to check it out since walking is one of your goals.

My goal is to do the following for the circuit for 3 sets:

50x KB swings

10x squats

10x pushups (knee, at the moment anyways)

5x sun salutations

10x clean and press

 

At the moment, I'm using a 20lb kettlebell for the weighted movements. 

 

I did the circuit tonight, and I've still got a bit to go to get to my goal.. Not helped by the fact that my left shoulder was feeling complainy, so I bailed on the C&P after the first set. 

 

Swings: 40, 40     Squats: 10, 10     Pushups, 10, 10        Sun Salutations: 5, 5      C&P: 7

 

 
Thanks for the invite to the PVP - I'm not totally sure it'll work for me, since I'm more focusing on bringing general throughout-the-day walking up, which is hard to measure in distance terms.
 
I did get over 7000 steps in today though, so off to a good start!

Whelp, my lunch bringing goal was a bust today. I made the mistake of breakfast for supper last night - delicious, but not leftover friendly. I ended up getting a way overpriced, deeply mediocre chicken stir fry with noodles.

But the good news is that I have delicious leftovers for tomorrow. And I made my step goal today.

Ooh and I totally meditated last night. I got the Calm app on my phone, so I was trying to figure out if I could use it with ear buds in bed without disturbing the hubs, but he was totally up for doing it along with me :) Which was a little surprising, since he's been not at all interested in my previous suggestions that meditation might do him some good. Sweet though! I think we have a new bed time ritual.

Booooo crappy stir-fry. Why is it that stir fry, when it's crappy, is such a disappointment? 

 

But, yay on getting the hubby in on meditation, so that's good.

I'm pretty stoked about the meditation thing :) We did it again last night.. Pretty sure he was asleep by the end of it!

I've got a lovely breakfast/lunch packed though, which should be plenty to get me through the day. And it's time for another workout tonight :)

Lunch-bringing was a success, and I slayed my step goal, by getting over 9000 :D

Unfortunately the reason that I got so many steps in was because of a bunch of running around after work, and I was wiped by the time I got home, and bailed on my workout. It'll get done for sure tonight though.

I brought plenty of good food again today, and I'm going to go for a little stroll now to get those steps up there!

Hey Fonzico,

Every time I read your goals I think they should be mine,

I don't have it as a goal but I'm also stuck around the 5000 steps on a good day. What's your strategy for increasing (more walking i know).

What you need for work is some kind of emergency contingency plan. I have tin tuna and Mayo in the fridge at work that will brighten up a bought salad.

Aw, thanks!

To answer your question about steps, at the moment I have two main strategies: to sneak in little bits here and there, often by taking slightly longer routes to get where I'm going, and secondly committing to the lunch walk -I have an hour for lunch, so I absolutely have time for a 20-30 minute walk.

As the weather improves, pre/post work walks outdoors are going to happen more often, but that's just not the case at the moment.

In sad news, I forgot to wear my fitbit to work yesterday, so my step count looks much lower than it really is. I still got over 3500 after work, and I know i probably got b between 4000-5000 at work, but I'll say 6000 for the day just to be safe.

So I just realized I didn't actually post my last workout. Now I've done another (yay!) so here's both!

Feb 26: (weighted movements are with a 20lb kettlebell, unless otherwise noted)

Swings: 40/40/40

Squats: 10/10/10

Pushups (knee): 10/10

Sun salutations: 5/5

Clean and press: 10/5

Mar 1:

Swings: 50/50/50 (+30)

Squats: 10/10/10...(with 25lbs!)

Pushups (knee): 10/10/5 (+5)

Sun salutations 5/5/2 (+2)

Clean and press: 10/6/5 (+6)

So, some awesome improvement! I haven't reached my goal traps for all circuit yet, but I did three circuits this time! So pleased.

Also, found out my hubby was bragging to his brother about what I was doing, and explaining how hard it was [emoji14] So sweet!
