How are you getting on?

 

To answer your question about steps, at the moment I have two main strategies: to sneak in little bits here and there, often by taking slightly longer routes to get where I'm going, and secondly committing to the lunch walk -I have an hour for lunch, so I absolutely have time for a 20-30 minute walk.
As the weather improves, pre/post work walks outdoors are going to happen more often, but that's just not the case at the moment.

 

This is pretty much what I am doing too, and it's really starting to work for me. Do you have some nice places to walk around where you work?

I really like the format -it's easy to see myself getting better, which is encouraging. I will add more movements in once I can more easily perform these ones :)

Right now I just wander around inside attempting to create a route that doesn't bring me past the same places too many times [emoji14] But once the weather improves, there are some lovely wooded trails on the grounds that I intend to explore. :D

Goal One: Workout!

I made up a circuit for myself that I think will be a good focus for this round, comprised of some kettlebell stuff and body weight stuff. I'll explain in detail later. If I want to sub something of greater or equal intensity though, that's fine. 

 

3 workouts per week.

 

A = 18pts   B =15pts   C = 12 pts   D = 9pts   F = <9 

 

A : Completed (to the best of my increasing ability) the circuit on 3 occasions. Full points!

 

 

 

Goal Two: Eat well!

If I've learned one thing from the bajillion challenges I've done, it's that I suck with diet goals. I'm going to focus on preparation and habits this time, rather than elaborate rules. Plus the very act of making myself track food instantly improves the quality of my choices. 

1. Bring lunch to work. 1 pt per day.

2. Plan weekly menu. 2 pts per week. 

3. Weekend food prep - batch cooking, veggie cutting, and freezer meal making.  5 pts per week. 

4. Food tracking (via MFP). 1 pt per day. 

 

A = 110pts   B = 100pts   C = 90pts   D = 80pts   F = <80 

 

B : 16pts. I missed one day of tracking - there was just too much random bits and bites (attended a baby shower, and then had dinner at a friend's house, so I prepared zero of the food myself). I should have planned better to avoid that situation, but any tracking would have been a wild guesstimate, so I didn't bother. Also, I did make some freezer meals (chili!) on Sunday, but that was it for prep, so I only awarded 3/5 points. 

 

Goal Three: Walk a bunch!

I got a fancy schmancy pedometer (It's not really fancy, actually, but it makes me happy) a couple weeks ago, and I am finding it very motivating. I've been hitting 5500 - 6500 steps most days (Although I always seem to have one abysmal day that brings my weekly average down  :tongue:) so I want to keep inches things upwards. 

 

Week One: 6250 average (43,750)

Week Two: 6500 average (45,500)

Week Three: 6750 average (47,250)

Week Four: 7000 average (49,000)

Week Five: 7000 average (49,000)

Week Six: 7000 average. (49,000)

 

A = 283,500 steps   B =278,000 steps   C =273,000 steps    D =268,000 steps     F = <250,000

A- : 43,340 steps: Probably was actually over the target, but I forgot my tracker one day. Plus, I was HELLA lazy walking-wise on the weekend, and only scraped by because of some killer days earlier in the week. Still, off to a good start!

 
 
Goal Four: Use your brain! 
My brain needs to start working out again just as much as my body does! 6 days a week I am going to either:
1. Meditate
2. Learn something (Hello Khan Academy!)
3. Make some art. (Repetitive stuff I can do without much thinking, aka crocheting, does not count)
4. Play piano. 
5. Read some non-fiction. 
 

A = 36pts   B =30pts   C =24pts   D = 18pts  F = <18 

 

C : 4 pts. Meditated 4 times.. and that was it. Aiming for more variety this week. 

 

 

All told, I am please with my first week, even though it wasn't straight A's. I have some room for improvement, but I'm really enjoying my workouts and I know that's big part of keeping the rest of it together for me.

Slightly less great second week.

 

Sorry for my absence! I've been working overtime this week, including through my lunches and staying late, and it's been seriously messing with my schedule. 

 

Workouts have not been happening. I keep trying to psych myself up, but it isn't working. I just want to pass out on the couch when I get home. 

 

Steps were lagging a bit through the week since lunch walks were getting rare, but I made up a LOT of ground (pun intended) yesterday by getting in over 11,000 steps. I just need a minimum of 3000 today to meet by goal for the week :)

 

I purchased lunch at work once this week, but planned meals and I'll do some food prep today.

 

Mind-work outs have been pretty lax also. I think I meditated once, and I did do some painting yesterday, even if it didn't turn out. 

 

 

HOWEVER. Overtime is done (for now) and I am going to workout today, do some walking, and prep some food. Next week is going to be the opposite of the week three slump!

Hey guys, so I thought I should let you know I'm bowing out of this challenge.

My brother in law passed away on Sunday and I just don't have the time or energy to focus on it right now.

Thanks guys, it's been the longest two weeks of my life.

But the funeral is over now and we're back home, and I'm definitely finding comfort in a return to routine. I'm thinking I will finish out the last two weeks, albeit with modified goals.

I am going to aim to get over 7000 steps on average per day, and I am going to track my food. If some workouts happen, super bonus.

I'm a little low this week, but only a little. And tonight I did 20 minutes on our recently inherited stationary bike, plus a mini KB session.

I'm already looking forward to next challenge - I'm planning to have the same goals as I originally did for this one - it was a good challenge, and I want to try it again. So my focus for the next couple weeks is to prepare myself to be in a good place to succeed with that.

I'm already looking forward to next challenge - I'm planning to have the same goals as I originally did for this one - it was a good challenge, and I want to try it again. So my focus for the next couple weeks is to prepare myself to be in a good place to succeed with that.

It's good to see that you're still moving and working through things.  I think that's a good idea, since it wouldn't be a challenge if it wasn't challenging :D  The mountain is still there, so it's time to prep and climb it ;)

 

Keep up the steady pace and keep moving forward.  Remember, for every 'lap' you do, you're still moving more than the person who chooses to sit on the couch and do nothing.

Truckin' on.. 

 

Steps ended up ~7300 short for last week... Something to improve upon this week. Which I am off to an inconvenient start with, as I forgot my fitbit today. My phone pedometer says I'm at 4000 so far today though, and it's probably pretty close - while I know it over-counts, I also don't carry it with me all the time, so it roughly balances out. 

 

I also attempted my circuit on Saturday - I was pretty pitiful, but it was still an improvement over my mini session on Wednesday, so that's good. I am feeling the DOMS today though! I am going to do it again tonight - I am hoping to get up to where I left off before next challenge starts. 

 

I've been keeping up with tracking food - not with meeting metrics regularly, but staying a little more mindful at least. I've also planned the menu for this week:

 

Tonight: Chicken BLT salad

 

Tuseday: Slow Cooker Pork Roast (Korean flavours? Undecided) and Slaw. Maybe lettuce wraps. 

 

Wednesday: Stirfry (With leftover pork if that's an option, chicken if not) with rice noodles.

 

Thursday: Tomato + Meatball soup, caesar salad

 

Friday: Breakfast for Dinner: Probably my new favourite: Breakfast stacks = Hash browns patties topped with fried egg, bacon, cheese and tomato. Nom.

It's like the messiest, open faced, gluten free breakfast sandwich you've ever had :)

I really pushed myself with the circuit last night, and am already pretty close to where I was before, so I'm quite pleased there.

Aaand then I went for a walk after also, so while I don't have a totally accurate step count, I'm confident that I broke 7000.

It feels good.
