Protein and metals

Recommended Posts

Consumer Reports did a bunch of tests on protein supplements; the articles are in the July 2010 issue. I haven't read the whole articles, just the snippets online. But, they found that several brands of protein powders/whey supplements had dangerously high levels of arsenic, lead, and mercury. Crazy.

I try to avoid processed foods, but I've made an exception for a scoop of whey daily, and I think the extra protein has really helped with weight loss. I'm not ready to give it up, but this disconcerting.

Has anyone read all the coverage?
