I'm curious to know how you diagnose the right/wrong weights to lift.

I was going to make some food suggestions too but I think I've been beaten too it. Anyway, the rest is all g.... Wait - you've never tried oatmeal porridge?????

I never tried it, nope. Do you have a favorite way to cook it? Would love to know.

Finding the right weights will likely involve deloading for a week and then work up more consistently than I have before. If I feel progress, great. If not, deload again by some and try there. I want to find the weight that challenges me without tearing me apart.

Then when I add weight it will be because the bar is too light for me. I can tell it is too light if I don't have any problems completing my 2nd and 3rd sets. If I struggle on the last rep of set 2 and the last 2 reps of set 3, I figure I'm right where I need to be.

Just got here! Whew. Kale...try kale. I loath it raw and juiced. However make it into kale chips and oh my gosh. I can not stop until the plate is clean. So many amazing ways to season kale chips.

Chips, huh? I keep hearing about those, but don't you lose a lot of the nutrients when you do that. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. Been wrong plenty of times before so... lol

Dinner was...

Not bad.

Details:

I got pretty anxious eating, worried I'd hate it and/or barf. When my anxiety gets worked up around food or drinking water, I literally have to spit it out and then I can't eat anything for a few hours. PTSD sucks sometimes. Okay most of the time! lol

I have come to realize tonight that I'm not a huge fan of spinach. In stuff where I can't taste it much is fine. When I can taste it strongly, meh.

I really liked the french style green beans and shallots. I ended up dumping my greens right on top of the pasta and eating it all together. It was nice, minus the spinach. The pineapple was still pretty damn frozen. I was hopping around trying to get it eaten without spitting it out. Needless to say I only ate 1... Okay 2, but it was strangely fun to have frozen pineapple!

Hm, OK, I'll give that a go. I'm a real novice at this. I can vouch for kale chips. They are actually good. Also plantain chips, if you can score plantain where you live.

Porridge. Hm.... I don't eat as much of it as I used to. Being occasionally Scottish I feel like I ought to tell you to put salt in it but actually I think I prefer to cook it slowly with a little extra milk, some cinnamon and a big handful of sultanas. The sultanas soak up some of the milk so they end up nice and juicy. It's good runner food, apparently, although I prefer fruit before a run. Mrs 18ck enjoys her porridge with almond milk and prunes and she soaks it for ages before she even turns the ring on. It's all a but arcane and you know, she's Portuguese so there are probably olives and sardines in there somewhere too.

Frozen pineapple... I think I have a recipe where you put pineapple in a mold and pour in some juice... Pomegranate? Strawberry? Then freeze it and eat it like an ice lolly. It was quite nice but a but hard...

I look at it from this perspective -- it is better to eat a veggie the way you like it cooked, and get some of the benefits rather than not eat a veggie at all and receive none of the benefits.

 

Also, I have found that as I eat more veggies and less processed foods, veggies that I did not use to be very fond of have become favorites.

Teri, what are you doing to your neck to get it so bent outta shape? Do you even know?

 

The reason why I ask that second question is because I spent several years with some increasing and undiagnosed shoulder pain before a series of events led to the conclusion that I was actually holding my head at a tilt when I got tired or stressed, and this was causing inflammation on the opposite side. I still have to be pretty mindful or I lapse back into it. For the longest time, though, it was a total mystery for which I had a series of difficult-to-test hypotheses.

The reason why I ask that second question is because I spent several years with some increasing and undiagnosed shoulder pain before a series of events led to the conclusion that I was actually holding my head at a tilt when I got tired or stressed, and this was causing inflammation on the opposite side. I still have to be pretty mindful or I lapse back into it. For the longest time, though, it was a total mystery for which I had a series of difficult-to-test hypotheses. 

 

The neck issue comes from three issues. I have bad posture and have since childhood. I hold a great deal of my stress in my neck and jaw. My neck got worse after my back injury went without any PT and accurate diagnosis - I actually have an out of sync right hip. During the accident in the Marine Corps, they thought it was just muscle pain and I didn't know any better so never noticed that my hips were now off kilter. The right one is pushed forward and out to the right. Makes a few things kinda tough. lol If I do the PT exercises I can at least keep my neck from taking in the stress or at least that's my hope.

A jambalaya of sorts. Chicken meatballs (seasoned w/ teriyaki and pineapple), with a half of the following: white onion, red pepper, green pepper. A cup of rice.KALE!!!! I like it just fine! zucchini, chicken stock, 
And I ate my salad while cooking. Great way to eat it.
Fantastic experience and taste. And, I cooked! WIN WIN WIN

shower with full lotioning afterwards and not just piecemeal.

Looks like a great meal :)

I also carry my stress in my neck and partially shoulders. It took me years to figure it out but definitely more manageable now that I know what causes it. And for me, sleeping without a pillow when it bothers me seems to help.

Me too!

I love pillows, but when my neck is wound ip, I chuck them aside!

You did a great job! That whole plate was about 460 calories. Figuring you got three servings with 5 meatballs per serving, using 1 cup of uncooked rice at the start. Next time we do this together we will make the exact same thing so you will have accurate numbers. I know you are trying to cut down on sodium so getting rid of the processed meats is the key there.

I hope you put meat in freezer. We will need 1 chicken breast for Sunday meal. Pork chops we will use two at a time. Can't wait till Sunday.

Yeah, definitely. The med fuck up last month really nailed me to the wall emotionally. But I'm much more stable, still a bit irritable and high strung, but getting better. I think that's why I changed my goals so much. Fresh start with Spring. I can't 'see' spring, but I know it's gathering strength under me even as I type.

1. Muscle Inventory via Mobility and Stretching
a. lower back and mid back -- there are 2 vertebrae that enjoy popping in and out of place all on their own. It doesn't take but a small twist or bend backwards or pulling my shoulder blades back for them to pop. I assume I need muscle strengthening in those areas, but I'll need to consult a PT about which vertebrae they actually are and what muscles need the most building up.
b. mobility sucked today - ended one gig and started another. -- Excuse. Will do better.
 
2. Check Weight of each Exercise and Adjust for Optimal Effectiveness

had a tough time with posture work today -- I tried to continue from yesterday (hips tucked, shoulder blades back and down), but with my continuous moving about, I fell very short of doing corrective measures.
 
4. Eat This
Larabar for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch (salad from yesterday), and my leftover meal from heaven for dinner. Still really good the second time (I added some chicken cutlets to it as I ate most of the meatballs yesterday  :playful: )
 
5. Spa Treatment
I did some nail trimming work and lotioning. I have been applying my lip balm, although that's easy to remember in this weather!
 
Mood: meh.
I really didn't want to leave the gig I have been doing this week. Love it so much. And now I'm at a new place and it is unfortunately smelly - old dog and dust and wood ash and don't know what else. I always try to decide how to deal with it. My first instinct is to clean, but it's not my place and I don't want to scream 'you live dirty' by cleaning things I don't normally use. I do a general cleaning on the last day: floors, counters, bathroom, trash, etc... It'll have to do I suppose. All this means is that I'll be cleaning my hands and lotioning them a lot more than usual.
Had some inner part worried about therapy ending. The session on wednesday was pretty low key and there was talk of how well things were going again. They get pretty fidgety when they hear that kind of thing. To the point that they make me irritable and start picking on my daily mistakes. We spoke this evening and they are better informed and more getting the idea that my therapist will not just stop one day,because she thinks I am good to go. There is a whole process and she has spoken of it before. They are calmer. But I'm up at 3 am? Hum...
