svilardo2: Respawn Now? [YES] or [NO]

As the hero lay on the ground, something odd began to happen. His body started to blink. Not just his eyes, but his whole body. This is what typically happens to a hero who is not at his best. As the seconds passed, the blinking got faster until he suddenly vanished into thin air. The shadowy figure lurking behind the window dug around in his pocket for something. Knowing exactly what just transpired, the unknown man knew there was only a few seconds left before the fate of the hero was sealed. He had to act quickly.

As the seconds were running down, his heart started beating like the ritual drums in Indiana Jones and sweat began pouring down his face as if he were in Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Frantically he searched and came up empty.

Looking across the room he noticed a boxy robot with some interesting depictions on it.

The pictures were obviously a clue.

As he pulled out his wallet he noticed he only had a single dollar left. He tried to gently feed it into the robot's mouth but it kept spitting it back out.

Time and time again he tried while the clock was ticking in his ear.

He frantically held up the dollar to the dim light and then rubbed the dollar against the corner of the robot trying to figure out why it would deny him in his greatest moment of need.

And just like that, the robot accepted his sacrifice and returned for him silver coins which were an acceptable offering to the gods. From across the room he darted back to his window. Distress was upon his brow as he approached where the hero had once lay slain. He thrust the silver coin into the thin opening and could only hope that he wasn't too late. He closed his eyes and hid his head in the palms of his hands.

Did he make it? Was his offering to restore the cherished hero accepted by the gods? Or was the whole effort a waste?

It was up to the hero now. He had to carry the offering the rest of the way. Across the desert and up the sharp peaks, to where the gods lived, to present his request and pass the test in order to be brought forth. Was he willing to walk the 350,000 steps it took to get to the top of Mount Luccian? He would need to stay hydrated with 65 oz of water if he had any chance to get to the top with enough strength to pass whatever tests the gods would throw his way. The terrain and distance require traveling light with only a single weapon of choice for both hunting and defense - he would need to focus and become a master at controlling his mind, body, and spirit by training 3 times per week with his bodyweight and anything else he could find along the way.

How bad did he want it?

Was he willing to put forth the effort it would take if it meant he could return bigger and better than before?

He looked down at his feet and picked up a manageable stick. "Looks like this will have to do for the time being," he thought to himself. He tucked the coin into his belt, took a deep breath, and started to put one foot in front of the other...

Alright, 5 days in and I am doing pretty well. Since the day isn't over yet, I am going to exclude the stats for today, but so far here is where I am in relation to my goals:

Steps: 40,624 / 350,000 steps

Water: I have taken in at least 65oz every day so we are 4 / 42 days

Workout: I have worked out with bodyweight or other types of exercise 2x so far this week. I really need to get the third one in for this week but finding the motivation to get out in the cold and wet is like trying to find Waldo in a world of candy canes and barber shops...

The good news is, it snowed 6.5" here the other day. Ok, I say good news. The family and I, along with about 5 other friends spent about 3 hours sledding down a huge hill. It was a ton of fun but let me tell you, walking back up the hill was killer. I got 15k steps that day and climbed the equivalent of 48 flights of stairs. Half the time my 3-year-old didn't want to walk back up the hill so I either carried him on my shoulders, over my shoulder or under my arm and let me tell you...DOMS to the extreme!

I love workouts like that. But now the weather is about 5 degrees above freezing so we still have cold air with a bunch of muddy, nasty puddles everywhere (hence the lack of motivation to get out and get the third workout done).

Well, that wraps it up for today. I'll be back to update more later.

Starting strong, of course. We're moving into slush-y puddle territory ourselves. It's the worst.

Has the weather been crazy where you are? We got snow last week, freezing rain this weekend and for the next couple of days it is supposed to be in the 70s...then back to snow on Thursday. It's a wonder the whole state of North Carolina isn't sick with all this temp flux.

Starting strong, of course. We're moving into slush-y puddle territory ourselves. It's the worst.

The snow is amazing and beautiful...until it turns brown and starts creating huge mud puddles everywhere. Speaking of, my kiddos came in from playing outside the other day, covered in mud, of course, with a joke:

How do you know it is raining cats and dogs?.......wait for it......when you step in a poodle.

So we finally are seeing some relief from the cold and snow. It is supposed to get up to 75 today and tomorrow...and then snow on Thursday.

bleh.

So here is my update as of yesterday night:

Steps: 76,223 / 350,000 steps - I was doing pretty well, hitting close to 10k steps a day until yesterday. I'm not sure what happened, but yesterday I just barely made it over 6,000. I guess it was my first day back to work in a while and I was super swamped so I didn't really get up out of my chair much.

Water: I have taken in at least 65oz every day so far 8 / 42 days

Workout: Still only 2 workouts for last week. I thought I would get a third one in during the weekend but alas, it came and went and I never got out to do anything. I plan to make up for it this week, but I will not count the extra toward my goal since it was supposed to be a 3x per week goal. Still hanging at 2 / 18

Well, time to start work. Note to self: get out of your chair more today and go lift something!

So to catch up from week 2, I did a bunch of walking. I have been trying to force myself to get out of my chair at work and go for a walk around the plant. I have also enlisted a few friends to walk with me, I get someone to chat with and they get to get off of their lazy as well (my definition of win-win). I have also been doing well on drinking water - meeting my goal each day and occasionally exceeding it. Finally, working out. Yep, busted that out 5 days last week. I was tempted to do the Sesame Street theme and tell you that the word of the day is SORE and it is brought to you by DOMS, but decided against it...sorta (cuz I just did it).

On another note, things just got way crazy around the Vilardo house. For the last 2 years we (all 7 of us) have been living in 1200 sqft of space while we rented a townhouse from my school. We finally pulled the trigger and signed a contract to start building, hopefully closing in the middle of July. Talk about excited. We are doubling our living space and we will finally have a yard and a large community with a pool and all sorts of stuff. About a week after, while the new house was being permitted, our finance guy called us and let us know that during May/June time frame, when we would be looking to lock in our interest rate, the forecasts show that it was going to jump 1-1.5% which would be another $270 a month in our payment - not something we wanted to happen. The builder had an inventory home they finished in December which had a ton of upgrades done to it but three of the upgrades we really wanted, it did not have. We spoke to the builder and he said he could do 2 of them for a little change in the price and the 3rd, he would help us to get done (it is finishing a bonus room - basically, he will make sure we do it right so we get credit for it in our sqft, but will cost about half the price if they did it.

Long story, longer - we are now closing in 33 days and nothing is packed. Eeeek. Now we are in hyper-overdrive and trying to get everything ready to close in a month. As easy as it can be to give up on the challenge due to other things getting the in way and life getting busy, I shall not give in. This challenge shall be completed!

Now, off to the gym to become a super hero! More on the house later...

I forgot to check your thread for a bit, and I missed the exciting news. Congratulations on the house! What size is it? I bet your family is super excited. Way to go on the workouts and water goal too.

Thanks, EG! It is 2,332 sqft with another 330 sqft unfinished (which we plan to finish within the year). We are super excited. It will be so nice to have a big yard again and they are building a pool and clubhouse (read: free workout facility) that should be ready by next summer.

Thanks! :) I am not looking forward to moving all the boxes and furniture. My arms become noodles by the time I am done moving everyone and getting it all set back up. But, I should be stronger this time around, so I'm looking forward to seeing if it at least "seems" easier.

Half way through the challenge! Woohoo!!! I will have to post a full update after my meetings this afternoon, but I have updated the status bars in my signature to reflect where I am as of the end of the day yesterday (3/15). Also, as a bonus, I have lost 6-7 lbs (depending on which scale I step on).
