New Challenge and time to expand out of my comfort zone! This is my 4th challenge and all my previous ones have been taking it easy I think. As work is proving lately, I work best with pressure - being thrown in the deep end and determined to keep afloat. Here goes... *jump*!

Going Active : STA 3

I'm back into routine now of swimming once or twice a week for an hour with a couple of friends. Routine for me is good, and set times with people as it makes me guarantee I'll go. I'm loving being active again, and I need to capitalize on that and get even more active! As the weather is getting better I want to get back on the bike at weekends. Over the course over the challenge I want to see improvement on my cycling skills.

  • My start point is from my house to city centre in 30mins, with gears used being 2nd and 3rd (ignoring changes for hills).
  • My end goal is from my house to city centre in 20mins, OR gears being used 3rd and 4th.

 

Bend and Flex : DEX 5

Mixture of stretching and strengthening this one as I lack strength, and seriously lack flexibility. Also driving 100 miles a day is leaving me feeling quite 'stuck' with muscles not wanting to uncurl much. So. A stretch set for this challenge is includes; ankles (toe point and heel drops), hamstring, calves, thighs, shoulders, back, neck. For strengthening, 2 plank attempts. I'm aiming to hold it for 20 seconds, I highly doubt I will but I am going to try twice.

Goal is to do it 3 days a week.

Sparkling Smile : CON 5

Seriously ashamed to admit it but I am really bad at brushing my teeth. They are in remarkably good condition considering that but it's long past time I got them sparkling and treated them how they deserve! Brush'em at least once a day.

I have... *counts*... 4 tattoos currently! A small old english style letter B on the back of my hip, a celtic knot vaguely dragon shaped on my right shoulder blade, a patterned double pentagram at the base of my neck, and a tribal band around the top of my left arm. Apart from the B which was my first foray into tattoos, I've drawn the designs myself and they all mean stuff to me. I have another 2 planned and mostly drawn up, an idea for another 1, and possibly one or two more after that. They are addictive things... ^_^ just expensive :(

Next up to get done is a stylized crow holding a Yorkshire Rose to symbolize the two sides of my family - American (I got to crow from American Indian spirits) and English (Yorkshire's in the blood!).

Sparkling Smile - I did it! I should not be this happy that I remembered to brush my teeth before bed but hey, small wins!

Bend and Flex - did the stretches today, and omg I managed 2x 10 second planks! The angled press ups I was working on last challenge must be helping more than I realised! Awesome feeling start to the challenge! Previous attempts last year I think I lasted about 5 seconds max.

Sparkling Smile - completely forgot this morning, I blame leaving the house at 6am, although I also don't eat until I get to work and pretty much just get up and get out first thing. Remembered this evening though.

Roll on successes! Definitely need the boost today, found out some... disturbing... stuff this afternoon. Found out from the local news website that a guy I worked with in my previous job has been jailed for some awful stuff. Completely thrown my brain for a loop. Kinda thankful I don't have diet on my challenges this time because I think I need some treat stuff and sit and process time, just get my head around this concept... you think you have the measure of people


 


I have downloaded Ingress Chris-Tien! haven't opened it yet to have a look but I will try it :)

Bend and Flex - got in some omg good feeling stretches, did not realise what I was missing by not doing some after every long car journey! No improvement on the planks but that's expected after only one day :tongue:


Sparkling Smile - another lovely sparkling smile before bed!

Sparkling Smile - As before, I'm not doing them before I leave in the morning. I keep forgetting, not really being awake. Have done them this evening though!

Ingress?  Great!!!  I'm a part of the Resistance - not that it matters much unless we're in the same vicinity.  I'm really looking forward to the warmer weather - it will be much easier to play when I can reasonably walk a few miles without losing a nose.

I'm with the Resistance too :) I've had a bit of a play around now, turns out my city centre has loooooads of portals around it so I had a bit of a wander and looked as what can be done. They all seem pretty well defended and maxed out at the moment but I will be able to help more eventually!

Sparkling Smile - I actually can't remember if I did brush my teeth or not on Friday... I think I did when I got home after swimming but I was in a bit of a worn out haze and can't be certain. Hmmm. Not sure what to put here...

Day 6:


Today went completely not to plan! I went to town as normal around lunch time intending to do a bit of a catch up with family and a mate then be all productive, go home, shop, stretch etc. Noooo. I get a call saying its someones birthday and we are meeting at the pub at 7. No time to get back and shop then! Leads to dinner out and about, then an exceedingly fun drinking session with friends :)


Going Active - No biking today as it was raining all day :( I did do a bit of walking though investigating Ingress :)


Bend and Flex - Intended to do this today but got majorly sidetracked!


Sparkling Smile - I'm am most impressed with myself for remembering to brush my teeth, even when I stumbled out of a taxi home at 2am ^_^

Day 7:


Going Active - Really windy so I'm not really up for the cycling today. Slightly hungover also does not help. However I have some days off work next week and week after so I have catch up time.


Bend and Flex - Just finished this and bonus! 1 plank at 15 seconds, 1 at 10 seconds, that counts a progress!


Sparkling Smile - This is happening today! I will update when done.


Life Goal: Tattoo Time - Someone reminded me that mother's day is coming up on the 15th. So instead of tattoo money, I've put £10 on a giftcard for my mum, and will add another next week in liu of tattoo money. I hope she knows how much I love her that I'm swapping my tattoo money for gifts! lol :)

Week 2!

Go week 2! This is the week I start my days off work on much needed holiday (Thurs-Tues)! Give me chance to get some biking in, maybe go round the parks and hit up some enemy Ingress portals! Raring to go!

 

Day 1:

Going Active - (no bike time until holidays)

Bend and Flex - (not happening today)

Sparkling Smile - Noo bad start to the week :( Intended to do my usual and brush in the evening but came home with a migraine and promptly forgot. Not good enough.

Life Goal: Tattoo Time - (not done yet)

Going Active - (no bike time until holidays)

Bend and Flex - Stretches done, just gotta do the planks to wrap up the days flex-y stuff. - update: 2 planks and one was 20 seconds! The other 10 seconds.

Sparkling Smile - I am determined to do this today. Forgot this morning but WILL do it this evening. I'll just keep repeating it until I remember. - update: did it :)

I've signed up to walk a 10km charity race with work in May! First charity race I've done, even if I'm walking it. Scary stuff :S

Oooh very nice! I hope you have good weather, that will make the walk much more enjoyable! :) It is not scary at all, well I'm not saying you don't find it scary, but I'm sure when you do it you will like it and not be scared!

Woah, been a while since I updated. I'll be better from now on! I had a few days off work and was just massively enjoying the requirement to do NOTHING :D

 

Oooh very nice! I hope you have good weather, that will make the walk much more enjoyable! :) It is not scary at all, well I'm not saying you don't find it scary, but I'm sure when you do it you will like it and not be scared!

Thanks both! I'll certainly give it my best shot! I need to start tracking my walking I think, gauge how far that actually is ^_^

Going Active - Cycled to town and back today. I didn't think I did so well on the way there, mostly 2nd gear and a bit of 3rd and 1 dismount for a really long hill. Going back however, I was in 4th gear all the way! Apparently the wind behind me on the way back makes all the difference. Still need to improve though.

Week 3!


Couple of days off work, then back to the grindstone on Wednesday (today :S ). Back from work now and it was much more pleasant. I think I really needed that break.


On a side note; kinda starting to like a guy and trying to get the guts to let him know :S

Woah I haven't posted in ages.... 

 

Good job on the planks and the smile care!!!  Hope you have engaged beast mode and talked to the guy ......

 ^^ That is kinda the reason I've been preoccupied and dropped off the planet :D It all came out in the strangest of ways; an evening of flirting turned into him rescuing me from a wierd guy in a bar, and ended with kisses and an agreement to see where things lead us. But I guess it's bad for my challenge because I've been distracted texting each other and all the stereotypical daydreaming - I seem to have turned into a school girl again instead of the responsible adult image I've carefully cultivated til now!

 

Summary Week 3:

Going Active - I didn't get any cycling in at the weekend, mostly because Friday night I went out with friends, ended up basically on a date which ended at 2am. Saturday was then spent feeling exhausted but bouncy happy so I think it's a fair trade off :) Sunday was Mothers Day and spent the whole day with mum.

Bend and Flex - Overall I think I missed 1 of the 3 for the goal over the week.

Sparkling Smile - 2 days got missed over the week but 5/7 isn't bad for me.

Life Goal: Tattoo Time - Didn't technically put money aside, but did spend it on a meal and treats for my mum Sunday :)

Onto week 5 already? Time is flying too fast and I'm not where I wanted to be on this challenge...

 

Week 5!

What a waste of a day. I intended to at least go swimming with a friend (we haven't been in a couple of weeks due to clashing schedules) but got there to find I had a 2 inch bolt punctured through my back tyre, so the swim time was spent swapping the tyre out for the make-do-spare. I was so annoyed I got home and just went to bed in an exhausted huff. Car currently in getting a new set of rear tyres today (day 2) which has been a whole other bother.

 

I'll cover day 2 later.

Week 5 Bulk Catchup


This was a really bad week for the challenge. A mixture of stress, and a rapidly increase in social demands now I'm dating have combined into a complete fitness-wise waste of a week.


In other ways its gone well though. Went on a proper date going to the fair on Friday, did all the cheesy stuff, candy floss, won a toy :) had never been to a fair before either so it was fun! Sunday was dinner with a friend who's emmigrating out the country.


Going Active - Absolutely zilch again this week. Been doing too much running around to be able to fit in bike time.


Bend and Flex - Only once this week.


Sparkling Smile - Did manage 5/7 in total this week


Life Goal: Tattoo Time - OMG how did I forget this?...


 


Week 6


Ok the plan for this week is to end this completely mixed bag of a challenge on a high note. Friday is a bank holiday/day off work so I definitely plan to get some major cycling in.

I've been away so long! Thanks for reminding me :) Gah sooo distracted lately with my guy... great for the social and love life but bad for internetz and exercise! I need to have a good think about finding a good balance because I am very aware everything has gone out of wack. 

 

Ok here we go.

 

Going Active : STA 3

I did nearly zip on this goal. Weather started off being really bad, then I just completely lost the plot on this. Complete F and no stat points for this.

Over the 6 weeks I graded A, B, B, B, C, C slacking the further it went as my social life perked up and I just flat out forgot. No excuses. On average it's a B, approx 3 Dex.

Over the 6 weeks I graded A, B, B, A, B, D. That last week was pathetic really. Again no excuses. On average it's a B though and although I've not come out of the challenge with a great daily habit, I am thinking about it more and remembering at least more often. I think 4 Con is fair.

 

Life Goal: Tattoo Time! : WIS 2

Simple one, put £10 aside a week towards an hours tattooing  :)

The first 3 weeks the money was sidelined into a mothers day gift, but I did put it aside each week. 2 Wis achieved.
