I have never owned a racer back sports bra, and my partner, trying to be a sweetie, bought me one today and brought it home. What kind of torture device is this?? I could not for the life of me figure out how to get it on! The very bottom on the band unclipped, but the top part, where the X is, does not, so it doesn't open all the way for me to get it on. I tried putting it on over my head, and that didn't really work either. If I got it on that way, I'd still have no way short of contortion to get the thing actually clasped. I usually put it on over my head and then reach back and hook the hooks. Your question isn't ridiculous. Trembriele Posted March 22, 2015 Report Share Posted March 22, 2015 I love my racer backs once they're on, but getting them to that point is, as you described, an act of contortion. The kind I have have no hooks or clasps - all one piece. I put my right arm and head in, tuck my left like a chicken wing, insert it through the arm hole and straighten it above my head. This leaves both arms and my head through the holes. From there I move the back of the bra into position before pulling the bottom of the front over my chest. I adjust everything and I'm in. Squidwina Posted March 23, 2015 Report Share Posted March 23, 2015 The other thing that's weird about that Lane Bryant bra is that it has little adjuster hooks at the sides of the bottom band. Kind of like the ones you'd use to fasten thin straps on a bathing suit. Not only are they irritating, but the hooks fall out all the time. Once I have it on, they do stay secure. I think I'll just squeeze them closed with a pliers. I put up with it all because Lane Bryant was one of the only brick-and-mortar stores where I could get a plus-sized sports bra on short notice. One that worked, anyway. Other than the various weirdnesses, it's really comfortable and works well. I eventually bought 4 of them. Once I need to replace them with a smaller size, I'm going to do however much mail-ordering I need to in order to find something better.Lane Bryant "activewear" is pretty much a joke anyway. It's actually helpful if you have boobs an need a sports bra that's sized well (and not just "tight"). The trick: clasp it first, then put it on. I do both arms and my head so that it's around my chest but above my boobs and then just pull the front and back down (I admit I usually stick my hand down the front of the bra to grab my boobs and put them in correctly. While you're in the middle of the process it feels like it's just not going to happen, that thing isn't getting on. And then all of a sudden it's on and you (hopefully) have a well fitting and effective sports bra. Of course, they're tough to get off too, especially when your lats and triceps are sore. Toshimi Posted March 24, 2015 Report Share Posted March 24, 2015 the type of bra you are describing is the only ones i've found that work for me. thus far, they are the only ones that keep everything in place, and my boobs are finally not sore when i get back from a run. Juno by Moving comfort I can say is the best one i have ever found. Not only does it clasp in back... the velcrow shoulder straps also make it way easier to get off and on... I dont clasp it first, but i do put it on backwards... clasp then turn it around... can take a bit to get the girls in the right place until you're used to it. I was able to go to an all women's running store, which if you get a chance is a great experience. Talking to one of the sales people, they recommend the clasp if you're a C or larger, but might not be needed for smaller sizes... it really comes down to what do you like. 1 Quote Try not, do or do not- Yoda Link to comment

One of the biggest obstacles to my working out is fighting my way into one of those dang things, and I have been known to opt for a weight workout rather than a run, just to avoid the running bra. They're also disgustingly expensive, but not as much as running shoes (don't get me started on shoes).My putting it on basically goes like:- hold bra upright, front facing front. raise arms. All hooks and straps should be undone.- pull down band over arms and head and bust, and snug onto ribs. Head and arms should be above the band so you're wearing it around your middle.- reach back and hook the back part together. If you can't manage this, go back to step 2 and rotate the bra to hook it in front, then rotate it so the hook is where it belongs. The bra should now be hooked and on your ribs.- pull up the top of the bra so it covers the breasts- if shoulder straps don't come undone, slide arms through the loops one at a time. If shoulder straps did come undone, reach behind you and pull one strap end over your shoulder and secure at armpit (look in mirror to make sure it's the right strap and is not twisted). Then do the other one. Now you've got it on.Mine are the kind that hook in back and the shoulder straps unvelcro, so that makes getting into them a bit easier, but getting the hooks to stay is challenging, and if one of the hooks comes undone, it will unmercifully poke me in the back. They should come with Youtube instructions. I got my bras at a specialty running store and got one of the female employees to measure me and show me how to, um, apply the thing. Lift and seperate?there's usually a tradeoff between "control" and "separate." If you are of a larger size and you don't want bounce, you are gonna get skooshed.
