tenaciousglee - delusions of mediocrity

Recommended Posts

Just starting this to provide myself the motivation to come back and actually fill it out one day.  In general, I'm bad at long-term plans, but I'm pretty good at coming up with half-baked goals.

Today is my half-birthday.

In 18 months, I will be 40 years old.

Yikes.

I've been on my Nerd Fitness journey for about 3 years now and I recently posted something in my battle log about not being as far along as I would have expected after 3 years.  Of course, I'll freely admit that I have not been as consistent as I should have been and my results have suffered.  I program-hopped every month or two and tried cutting/bulking/fasting, what-have-you.  I've definitely built some muscle and burned some fat, but haven't had the transformation I was hoping for when I first saw Steve's story.

All along the way, I've had the big 4-0 in the back of my mind.  I'd like to be in the best shape of my life when I turn 40.  I'd also like to look like I'm in the best shape of my life. After trying a bunch of different things, I think I've finally settled on a program I can stick with.  In a recent article, Steve said:

For me, I’ve found that eating the same meals every single day, getting enough sleep, and training four days a week for about an hour each time is sustainable for me. As a result, I’ve been able to make consistent progress for the past 18 months, and my new “normal†is progress and strength improvements!

I'm going to follow his lead once again and dedicate myself to slowly, incrementally, getting stronger over the next 18 months.  That works out to about 78 weeks and if I can just add 1-2 pounds a week to my big four lifts (plus weighted pull-ups & dips), I'm confident I will finally have the strength and accompanying muscle I've been after.
