Rurik Harrgath
I'm biased towards the Army because they helped pay for my schooling, and I look better in green than blue. Oh, and I really enjoyed Land Nav, Cam & Concealment, and sleeping in the mud. I'm bizarre that way. But I suspect that garrison life for the Air Force is much much more pleasant. BRHemp
Halfway through and I am holding steady. Down 6-7 lbs depending on the time of day. Still not using the Copenhagen or any other tobacco products. Diet is doing better than I thought and my knee is getting stronger since my surgery in November. Did a front squat with 275 the other day. So getting back to where I belong. Hope everybody else is doing well. Question...Has anybody tried the Nike Metcon 1 CF shoes? I just custom made some Nano 4.0 (Batman colors and Batman embroidered on the back. What? It is nerd fitness.) I am a shoe whore and want to try the Metcons out. 2 Quote Remember, anything worth doing is worth overdoing. It's the American way. IslandGirl_Becks
I started CF with New Balance Minimus shoes... but after much love and a few RTV adhesive repairs, they finally fell apart. Nanos were for sale that week at Reebok, and I've really enjoyed them. The next phase was a pair of Marmot Bare Access Arc 3's, which are my current favorites. Those died, too and were replaced with the Ultras of the same model... too much cush in the sole for Oly lifting, but they're great for everything else. Quote We are what we repeatedly do. Rurik Harrgath
When I started Crossfit I had a decent pair of Merrel minimal trail runners that actually worked pretty nice for most of what was thrown my way. But as my fitness improved and I could push myself harder, I found that the complete lack of cushion would really beat my feet up on anything involving impact, box jumps especially. Picking up my first pair of Nanos was a complete game changer. I'm already planning to pick up a customized pair for Christmas. Xena
I've been thinking about ideas for my next challenge, and saw that DJ Trippy is doing the same. I'm guessing a lot of you might be kicking around some ideas. Does anyone have some fun ones to share? I think I'm going to stick to some of my tried-and-true maintenance goals and throw in two new things 1. I've been inspired by how a lot of you have "gamified" various challenges (Phoe-B dietary boss fight, Tzippi housecleaning game etc.). I'm going to make speed training into a game of sort with points earned for miles run at interval pace, for hard tempo pace within a longer run, and for some other types of training. I think it will work...sometimes when I have speedwork goals, they are kind of narrow and end up competing with other things (racing, hill work, etc). I'm going to throw it all in the mix. 2. I read a lot of crappy novels. Not the absolute worst vice, but a time waster. I'm going to read some books off the NYT Notable Books list and work through some more chapters of my programming book. I think it's fun to see other ideas...so please share if you like. 1 Quote Xena, Level 14+ Valkyrie Ranger January 2017 December 2016 Oct/Nov 2016 Link to comment
shaar
My next challenge is mostly planned...!! I don't want to give away my theme (heehee) but I think I'm going to force myself to SLOW DOWN a little on this next 6WC... one of my quests is going to focus on taking time for me to relax and do something I love but have been too "busy" to do lately - get outside and read. I've got some serious strength goals planned but summer is almost here and I need to remind myself to enjoy it!! [emoji295] 3 Quote i am not waiting for a hero. i saved myself long ago. DarK_RaideR
My goals have been kinda vague this challenge, especially on the nutrition front. I'll have to SMARTen them up for the next one, especially in lieu of my upcoming PvP against kzacher, in order to make our progress measurable and comparable. Gym 3/week is barely a challenging thing by now (mostly a need/necessity). Going for every day has wrecked me in the past and set me back in the long run, but since I want to push things, I'm thinking of keeping it as a baseline goal and score points for any extra stuff, such as more days or double trainings (oly lifting and then WOD). More of a "stretch goal" thing than "gamification". Since reading was mentioned, systematically digging into some books I've been meaning to read for a while is going to be my next life quest. I read a good book during this challenge and it kinda set things off. Finally, considering adding some tangible rewards from day 1 to bribe motivate me since I'm not doing the stat thing anymore. Also will be transferring the RP to my Battle Log, which will be re-vamped along with my Epic Quest to celebrate my first ever NerdFitnessaversary (Merriam-Webster approves of this) 2 Quote Lvl 52 Multitasker Link to comment
Xena
I'm big into the bribes/rewards. They completely work for me. It made sense to have vague/flexible goals. Just land softly on the box... quiet feet *couldn't find an appropriate cat gif* OK rangers, ideas needed. The local weather forcast is *65 and sunny for the next week+. My ideal temperature. Normally, I rely on rain to cancel my outdoor pursuits at least one or two days each week so that I don't over-train. Any ideas on how to go hard all week without hurting myself/getting sick? Right now I'm thinking 10+ hrs of sleep a night and two-a-days with my foam roller... 1 Quote We are what we repeatedly do. Rurik Harrgath
I haven't put a whole lot of thought into my next Challenge yet although now that people are talking about it, I think I should start. My last few have all but been the same with a different life quest to accompany the same programming with an increasingly strict focus. I think I'll spend this next week checking out some other Rangers' Challenges and quests/goals to change things up a bit. That ought to spice things up for me a bit and hopefully break myself out of the routine. I have about another month, maybe two, before I'm done this weight loss cycle and I can change up my nutrition to an Eat To Perform style "bulking" program. Probably the Challenge after next will see that change and my completing more running in preparation for July's adventure races. So that will definitely switch things up and be a change of pace for me. IslandGirl_Becks: Lots of sleep, concentrate on your nutrition, and learn to love that foam roller. Throw in some lacrosse ball work if you're really going hard. Otherwise just listen to your body and rest when it says rest. When I know I have a hard 4-6+ days of straight training coming, especially if I have day shifts falling in the schedule, I really focus on post-workout nutrition (I take in more carbs pre and post-workout on major workout days and over the course of the week) and getting that cooldown stretching and mobility work in. Pushing hard every day is hard on the old workhorse so taking the time to recover properly is essential in my books. 1 Quote [Level ??] Rurik, Templar-Marshal Class: Paladin of the Order of the Sacred Flame (Conquest Paladin/Champion) BRUTALITY 11 | FINESSE 10 | VIGOR 11 | INSIGHT 14 | WILL 13 Equipment: Leather armor, questing longsword, and adventurer's pack with alchemist's kit.
