No time frame for when I have to drop the weight by. Hoping with in a month or two.and yes the used the tape measure. I hoped I would pass that instead of having to lose another 20lbs. I've dropped over 50 already

If it's the recruitment center they're likely to help you get in. If you're taking the fitness test and weighing-in on different days, which they sometimes do, it would be possible to cut the weight Thrillho-style (i.e. the "unhealthy" way) just to get yourself in. Then you can work at it while in the service. They don't really give a shit about actual body fat percentage, by the way; you just need to meet a certain height-to-weight ratio, or failing that, a girth ratio. I imagine they would also do height and weight on the same day as a fitness test at the unit though, so cutting then would probably be detrimental to one's score.

[FROM THE OTHER THREAD, to save posts] Have you interviewed for any gyms yet? I don't know the effects of degrees, but most employers look for certifications. But even then certifications don't guarantee you the job unless you're a boss with selling shit. If you can sell yourself well, you can get yourself through the interview and get hired (maybe even without a cert), and you can get yourself a lot of clients who will give you their money. We had a past thread about personal training certs.

If you're going down this road, I definitely recommend this: Your career in fitness: A success guide for personal trainers & coaches by Nate Green

Twenty pounds in two months is real close to actual recommended rates of weight loss, so hopefully you can at least start drinking water again...

I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever.

Gym question: I want to be able to lift and use machines, and also do ukemi (break falls and rolls) at the same place. The "dojo" I practice jujutsu at is actually a community college and the mat rooms are locked when it's not class time. Do you guys know if this sort of mythical gym exists? I can't seem to find any gyms with mats and I'm wondering if it's a lost cause.

Such places definitely do exist, but they tend to be expensive on the order of a Crossfit or something like that.

If you look, you'll find it.  Just expect to pay the price tag of a niche gym.  Maybe ask around at your dojo after class?

Of course, now that you're both here, your individual ninja-awesomeness is now halved. :D [beware, TVTropes link!]

Unless you're on opposite sides, that is.

Ninjas are like Sith. There can be only one. So now I have to get in my TARDIS and chase her around all time and space until the ring is destroyed or I catch all the pokemons with my infinity dragon balls.

I might have got my fandoms mixed.

Just want to say "Hi" really quick (thanks again for the invite, Teirin). I train and have trained in several arts including Aikido, Wushu, Capoeira, Systema, and some sword arts. I have yet to find an art that I don't enjoy training and am always looking for more styles to add. I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys!

Sup Hector totally-not-of-troy! Welcome!

Oh great monk masters, the current 6W challenge is coming to a close, and the last mini quest is to find a guild. Although I believe I fit because of my love for martial arts, is it cool with ya'll if I were to strength train with free weights for the next challenge? My friend has a set of free weights and is willing to workout with me. There's the matter of getting a schedule figured out and getting proper for down, but I think it'll be fun.

We're totally all about different things. Lots of us practice martial arts, but structure our challenges around other things that have nothing to do with our martial art. For example, my challenge this go around was to run 2x a week, drink water, and do my PT stuff.

Basically, come join us. :D
