W2D4 - Chart updated.

Snooze was terrible again.  I'm going to dive right in on my bedtime goal tonight.  No workout, I'm just going to watch a hockey game instead.  Eating is now back on track with the new target, and I'm already feeling a little better.  I'll probably need to adjust the targets again before the end of the challenge, but for now I'm going to stick with what my BMR calculator is saying.

Today was "Take Your Daughter to Work Day," but my schedule was crammed.  I'm taking her tomorrow instead so she can spend the morning with me, then we'll meet up with the rest of the family for lunch at the Mexican place downtown.  I'm going to pretty much ignore my carbs target for the day since I'll be in the gym later, but I'm not going to completely turn off my brain with respect to eating.

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of

you but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Seriously, what a terrible goal.  I've had worse ideas, but I can't remember any of them right now.

Workout was solid.  According to the 1RM calculators I'm sneaking up on 300 lbs for deadlift (I will catch you, Spezzy! ;) ).  I did all three BBWW circuits for warmup, banged out my deadlifts, hit the bodyweight assistance exercises, and stretched it out good.  My neck and back are a bit stiff, but that's probably from my new pillow--I'm still not adjusted to it.  Also, I don't know what I did to piss my abs off, but they were screaming at me for the last two days.  I don't even do any dedicated work on them, and Wednesday was overhead press with dips and pullups (my new favorite day on the current plan).  I guess they're getting stronger so I won't complain.

Between sets of pike pushups, I thought I'd take a crack at a pullup again.  From a dead hang at the tower I FINALLY GOT ONE!  It's been over 19 years since I can last remember doing a pullup (in boot camp).  I'm going to keep working the StartBodyweight.com progressions until I can do 3x10, then I'm going to start working toward my year-end goal of doing a strict muscle-up.  I'm detecting progress again.  This is a great thing!

Scaling back my eating hasn't been a problem at all...yet.  I'm not prepared to rule on it after two days, though; and I'm pretty confident there's some doom and gloom coming for me next week because Week 3 Always Sucks. :D  But I'm noticing progress here again, too.  I think I'm about to gain back another belt notch--that would make six so far this year.  My jeans are so bunched-up at the waist now I don't know how much longer I'll be able to put off shopping.  I'll definitely be cycling in some of the older stuff from the back of my closet now that it all fits comfortably.

Workout day today meant higher carb day, so it's a pass even though I didn't change the target on my chart.  I already feel a million times better.  I get the science behind it all and I'm glad that it works for people, but super low-carb just isn't for me.  I seem to do much better with cautious moderation.  My calorie levels are low enough now that I'm going to start taking a daily multivitamin with breakfast just to be sure my micronutrients stay in the good range.  After this challenge I'll take a break from the deficit and eat at maintenance for a couple of weeks.  This has nothing to do with being on vacation to Albuquerque and San Diego at that time. B)

No more check marks on the To Done List, and I'm not really planning any for this rainy weekend either.  I'm going to take it easy and maybe start gathering materials for that deck job since the weather next week looks like it will be fantastic.  I'm out of lines on the list and won't be adding any more items either, but I'm making it an unofficial side goal to finally (after 8 years on my health plan) choose a primary care doc and go have a thorough check-up by the end of this challenge.

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of

you but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

First, YEAH on the pull-up!!!!!!  I am looking forward to the day I nail one myself.  I'm sure you felt pretty awesome (cuz you are).

Second, I am with you on the higher carb.  I do well with a couple of low-ish carb days cycled with higher but still reasonable carb days.

Third, I also have a goal that I'm going to have to dump. But, it sounds like you have a plan on how to tweak your goal.  I like the idea of working on getting to bed sooner rather than battling your snooze button.

I think getting to bed on time will nullify the need for a snooze goal.  Time will tell on that one.  Also, that pullup did feel awesome.  I have to credit the StartBodyweight.com progressions (in addition to my weight-loss) with helping me build up the necessary strength.  I highly recommend that method.

W2D6 - Nice not to have to bother with my alarm clock this morning, and with all the rain outside and playoff hockey on TV I was more than happy to sit on my butt all day, apart from cooking meals for my family.  Very fulfilling. :)

Eating was good today.  I have big hopes for tomorrow morning's check-in.

I hadn't planned to do anything on the Side Quest list, but MrsFeelgood managed to return that bike to her friend, so the "clean garage" item is officially complete.  Only three more to go.  I ordered my 5-gal bucket of deck stain today and hopefully it will be here by Thursday so I can spend next weekend finishing that job.  The TV stand item is proving trickier--I've got an old 36" CRT beast for our main TV and I want to replace it with the 42" plasma which is currently in the basement.  Problem is, nobody on craigslist seems to want the old one. :D  I'm giving the ad another week to give someone a chance to come get it, then I'm just going to take it to be recycled.  I've already got a new stand in my Amazon cart, I'm just waiting to complete the order until I'm sure I'll be able to make all the changes.  I don't want to have to move that old TV more than once. ;)

W2D7 - 1 snooze for the final day of giving a crap. ;)  Beginning tonight, I'm back on a bedtime goal.

It's been a good day for food.  I ate a bowl of Cheerios this morning for the first time all year.  All calories were on target, and carbs weren't too shabby in spite of enjoying some homemade mac-and-cheese and a dinner of carnitas tostadas in addition to my cereal breakfast.

After our Sunday routine (church and shopping) I came home and got to work mowing and spraying.  The day was so nice that I thought I'd get some sun in preparation for summer vacation, so I mowed shirtless and was surprised to find that I'm not so self-conscious about my (shrinking) gut anymore.  The whole week is supposed to be nice, and if I get around to working on my deck like I have planned then I might actually be a shade or two darker and far more even than my annual farmer-tan by next weeks update photos. :D

--------------------------

Week 2 Check-in - weight-loss is back on track.  The scale says 204.7 lbs which is down 2.5 lbs from last week.  2.5 is also my running average at the moment, so 195 is still possible by the end of the challenge but it'll be a fight to get there.  I'm definitely up for it.

vjKE1x7.jpg

The Blackhawks won to advance last night, so my playoff beard gets to live for another couple of weeks.

So far (since the beginning of the year) I'm down nearly 40 pounds, and I've lost 8 inches in my waist(!!) while managing to preserve or increase the lean mass in my arms and chest.  I'm really starting to feel good about how I look, and I'm completely motivated to keep it going.

Apart from my own personal fitness goals, I'm also now being motivated by having thrown out all of my old underpants and replaced them with some fancier stuff in the size I'm supposed to be.  The current snug-ness is a ready reminder to stay on plan.

I'm trying to get down to 174 lbs--that would be 70 total pounds lost and the nearest integer to a BMI below 25.  If I get to 10% bodyfat before I hit that weight then I'll consider that my goal and stop losing.  If I haven't hit 10% bodyfat then I'll keep going past 174, but that won't be in the interest of weightloss, it'll just be that I want to see my abs. :D

Could you explain how you are pasting the table in your posts?  I'm using Google Chrome, and when I try to post a spreadsheet, it only prints words, and it doesn't even keep them in columns.  Are you doing a copy paste, or importing a file in some way, or what.

As an engineer, not having a table in any of my posts is kind of unsettling.

I'm just adding and updating screenshots of my *.odf (Open Office) spreadsheets.  I use Snipping Tool and then upload JPGs to Imgur for hosting.

When I have some downtime I intend to find a more direct approach.  I'm still not completely familiar with the special codes here.

W3D1 - finally, a day with all four goal components achieved successfully. :)

For the "Bedtime" goal I'll be marking it with the time of the night before, so today's "10:23" refers to Sunday night's bedtime.  That way I can still do my updates in the evenings for consistency's sake (plus I just like it better).

Workout was great.  For my BBWW warmup I celebrated my lost 40 lbs by doing all three circuits of squats and lunges with a 40-lb "log" on my shoulders.  It was kinda fun to see how much stronger and fitter I've gotten since the beginning of the year by neutralizing the bodyweight variable.  Gym Buddy is back from vacation, but he skipped working out to go to a dentist appointment (wuss) so I worked in on bench with another acquaintance.  I got 190 lbs for 8 reps on bench which calcs to a 1RM of 240 lbs which is easily my best bench performance ever.  Then I maxed decline pushups and inverted rows for bodyweight assistance, so I'll be moving up another progression with both of those in the next cycle.

Eating was according to the new plan.  I'm not getting bored or hungry at all, which is nice.  My higher carbs limit on workout days is helping immensely--I have much better energy and focus at the gym.

My car decided to throw an electrical fault at me on the way home today, so I spent the evening removing my alternator.  When MrsFeelgood gets home from her outing I'll run to the parts store and have it checked, and if it's bad I'll just have to buy a new one.  That will cost almost as much as my planned TV stand, so that Side Quest item might get bumped in favor of another ex post facto auto repair.   I would sell this car in a flat minute if I thought I could get enough to cover a replacement, but it's not in good enough shape.  At least it's paid for.

This is good information, even if it's just your N=1 experience.  I keep going back and forth with all the advice out there (low carb vs. more balanced approach).  Every time I've tried eating below 100g a day, I feel like garbage - especially when I'm playing tennis.  Based on your charts, looks like you're shooting for 100g on non-workout days and 150g on workout days.  Hm, I may need to steal those numbers :)

Still can't get over the fact that you've lost 40lbs already. You're kicking arse at this. :D

(Also, ooh, I kind of want one of those "log" things.)
