Workout

 

Monday pull-up work. Did the flex hangs and negatives and kind of sucked at both. Did not do the lat pull-downs (but I'll do them today). And then I took the dog on a nice long walk in the park and dealt with his panic mode.

I have no damn idea what happened yesterday. I *felt* like I ate normal portions. I wasn't running around starving to death, anyways. 

 

I had a smaller than some days lunch (only 1 cup of coleslaw mix instead of 2 so I can have the rest today) and dinner I felt was fairly large - at least it looked large in the bowl. Not overflowing like I sometimes serve, but a nice filling up the bottom of the bowl portion. (enough, anyways, that I don't think my DH finished all of his - he pretty much never cleans his plate, whereas I am a charter member of the clean plate club). Apparently (and I think I remember this from the last time I had it), spaghetti squash has next to no carbs & calories. And shrimp - I always forget that shrimp has very little protein/calories. 

 

I could probably have bumped up my chicherrones reporting a bit - I *probably* ended up having more than 9 pieces, since I'm down to the non-whole bits, but still - even if you double it, it's only 80 calories per serving. 

 

Good thing I had a little cheese! And no wonder I was hungry after dinner - hungry enough for ice cream, anyways. My ice cream portion was fairly small -- about half a "real" serving - mostly because although the flavor is delicious, the sugar content starts killing me.

Workout

 

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical (same routine as last week; this week it was much easier) + an ab routine. I had intended upon doing lat pull-downs as well, but the machine was occupied.

Week 5 Day 3

 

Workout

 

I did my Wednesday pull-up work: 8 band-assisted pull-ups per side x 4 rounds + 5 max effort tries per side with no band. I still didn't get farther than halfway up.

 

And then the hubbs, dog and I walked down to Brooklyn Bridge Park to pick up the DH's race packet.

Dinner: Chicken schwarma - omfg I ate bread; mostly because I knew I needed protein, was starving to damn death, and was half drunk. The other options were: grilled cheese, arepas, nachos, tacos or popcorn

Snacks: 1 glass of pinot grigio at the packet pickup, and I'll be damned if I wasn't half drunk by the time I finished - plus starving to deaths

Week 5 Day 4

 

Workout

 

Yoga day. This time on the roof of my building - and damn was it ever windy. Beautiful view, but crazy wind. Today's practice was fairly athletic, which was nice - and I got back into wheel without injuring myself. The teacher helped hold my shoulders because I was having issues lifting all the way up (mostly due to being scared of injuring myself again), but still -- wheel. Whoo.

woot! Yeah, hopefully it isn't broken forever - it lights up; just doesn't want to talk to the app. I have a trouble ticket in to customer service to see if they have any better way of tricking it into cooperating than the 5 or 6 things I've already tried. 

 

On the sleep front: I feel like I slept like poo last night. I'm exhausted.

Week 6 Day 1

 

Workout

 

I have no idea what I did today, because a: I couldn't face doing the pull-up work I"ve been doing, because I'm lazy and I hate "having" to break and do shit while I'm trying to work; and b: I completely forgot my phone at home (a whole 1 flight up) when I went to the gym. Whomp, Whomp. 

 

So, I made shit up - I grabbed the 15 lb. weights, an 8 lb. medicine ball, and a mat. I stretched my hips a bunch, did some overhead weight sit-ups, russian twists, weighted lunges, dips, overhead presses, cleans, and some other random shit - all in total, 20 minutes worth of work. Weighted squats were also involved (and yay, I'm not in too much pain from them today - I can definitely feel that I worked my IT band, but not that i killed it). And I tried to stick to sets of 20 (or 20/side). That didn't happen for some of the dumbbell work.

I forgot what non race-induced leg DOMS were like. I did rolling hills for 30 minutes on the treadmill for cardio day - and thought about doing something else, but was busy being mad about stupid shit so didn't. Bonus: time flew during my workout. Not bonus: I should probably not be actively pissed about shit that a: happened already, and b: I can't do anything about. It's ridiculous and a waste of energy.

I SO hear you on stewing about things ruining your productivity/ability to workout. Been there. It sucks. You feel silly the next day, but it's so hard to shake in the moment. Anyway, just feeling sympathetic about stupid shit!

When the hubbs came home from this morning's job, I happened to be reading my bajillionth 'how to de-clutter and live with no shit' article - which prompted a conversation where he: gave me the you're crazy face, reminded me that we don't have that much shit to begin with, and that pretty much none of it (in the closets anyways) is just his - but for the work stuff he uses and the legos he does not. 

 

Which is all completely true. Also true: I no longer remember what is in my closets, even though I went on that diagram drawing campaign last year and still have everything labeled. 

 

That makes the closets ripe for a cull, right? And my desk area - if I haven't touched X craft/paper bit/whatever in over a year, it should also go. Maybe. That shit gets expensive.

Week 6 Day 3

 

Workout

 

I really, really didn't want to do anything today - but it was pull-up work day, so I compromised and did 2 rounds of 5 pullups/chinups each with the band and really concentrated on making those the best 10 examples of each I could muster. Inner thighs are still killing me, as is my whole hip region and now (Thursday morning) my sternum hurts and my shoulders feel like they won't open wide enough

My body is quite happy it's yoga night. And, as I was just thinking last night - I need to make foam rolling a goal for next cycle so I actually do it instead of just talk about doing it/know I need to do it. 

 

I really need to start now and roll all next week pre-Spartan. I've got 2 days of walking I want to do + 2 days of yoga next week -- foam rolling + hill walking would be a great combo.

My body was happy it was yoga day today. We had a good class, per usual - worked on inversions a bit and stretched what i really needed - my chest, shoulders and hips.

Ooh! I made quick radish/carrot pickles the other day, and I must conclude it's a wonderful thing. Even if the recipe I used wasn't quite right. I'll get it next time.

Mmmmmm.... radishes. I hope this year's CSA has radishes. Ideally, the crazy varieties my Miami CSA had - I loved playing with watermelon and whatever the black kind of radish are called. :) 

 

On the yoga front, I'm debating on whether to add more into my routine again or not -- damn Instagram yogis have me really wanting to focus on learning how to do cool shit ... but I also need to just work on overall fitness ... and I still want to do a damn pull-up this summer ... and I need to not completely kill myself given how full of a race schedule I have this summer.
