Wow, here we go again! Challenge Four will be starting soooo very soon. My theme for this challenge will be one of my favorite anime ever:

That's right, this challenge comes straight from Outlaw Star, and I'm going to fight to build a better beast by the end of this challenge. 

 

Strong Like Gene (STR+3 @ 90%)

If you know anything about Gene Starwind, he’s a good man to have on your side in a fight. An ace with his caster gun, agile, and able to take a punch with the best of them, he is the spitting image of badass when the chips are down. You know you’ll always get your bacon pulled out of the fire in the end, no matter how great the stakes.

 

I’m going to do my part to emulate Gene’s physical strength by going to the gym 4 days/week and doing the following:

 

-       Lifting 3 days/week

-       Chins/pulls 41 days/week (Moving these to their own day--Sunday--to give them the attention they deserve. I am focusing on chins to do one thing well instead of two things badly.)

-       All the Tricep Dips 7 days/week Axed this early on, too many things going on while injured

-       Walking 4 days/week (in gym cool-down 3x and outdoors around my neighborhood weather permitting 1x)

 

Responsible Like Jim and Gilliam (WIS+2, CON+3 @ 100%)

Jim is the opposite of Gene. Where Gene is all action, ends-justifies-the-means, and flying by the seat of the pants, Jim is tactical, honest, and methodical. He knows what it takes to get the job done and serves to rein in the free-wheeling captain of the Outlaw Star with hard cold realities like money, food and ship maintenance. The Outlaw Star’s dry-wit AI serves a similar role, keeping the group on task by reminding them of their options and priorities, and also being adorable.

I have MFP to help serve as this influence in my diet. Planning the day’s meals in advance and conforming to the quotas it outlines will keep the sugar, added or otherwise, under control. I will make my log available to view and it will contain every single thing I eat and drink. There is no room to fall off the wagon and not log. Diet is the fuel that powers my strength goals.

 

-       Use MFP every day to show how much calories, carbs, protein, sugar, and fat I am eating.

-       Maximize protein intake, strive to meet or exceed calorie goal as that appears to be where my energy level does best

-       Log new recipes I try

 

Graceful Like Suzuka (DEX+2, CON+2 @ 90%)

Lethally beautiful, able to kill with a WOODEN SWORD, tenacious almost to a fault. That’s Suzuka. Who wouldn’t want to have her skills? On the road to more spectacular abilities, I need to put a greater focus on my flexibility, hence this mission and its high standard. My bodyweight work learned under Gene will assist me in achieving new heights in the future.  

 

-       Emphasis on splits assisting stretching and general stretching, especially on off-days (6 days/week)

-       Yoga 1 day/week Grip work and form every lifting day (ideally 3 days/week)

 

Brave Like Melfina (CHA+3 @ 100%)

 

Melfina woke up from a large briefcase with no real idea of who she is or what her purpose in life might be. A major plotine of Outlaw Star revolved around helping Melfina find the answers to her questions, an identity, and a place to belong. She encounters a wide variety of people and places, some friendly and some intent to use or destroy her as if she is not really even a person. With help from her friends, she grows throughout the story into a woman who knows she has value in her own right.

Melfina did a lot of things she never was fully prepared to do at the time, and she grew as a result. I will find something to do—at least once—that I have not previously done in challenge or battle log. It may be dusting off the old mountain bike to see if I can actually pedal uphill now or attending a class like this, which is waaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone. Like, in another galaxy out there.

I love your Brave like Melfina quest and am excited to see what you discover!  I may try that eventually for one of my quests, while I love trying new things, I find I sometimes have to reeeeally push myself to get out of my comfort zone...

I'd always meant to watch Outlaw Star but just never got around to it. Maybe some day!!

 

Exciting challenge, and I especially love the do something new/out of your comfort zone quest. You never know what you're capable of or what you really love to do until you do it! ^_^ Subbing for the inevitable awesomeness!

 

It's a really good show, definitely one of the defining anime of the 90s. At least for me it was.

 

It may be a class, it may be something outdoors, not 100% sure yet. Maybe I'll surprise myself...

That... is a terrifying image. O_O

 

I'm not sure how they thought that was a selling point, either, but it DEFINITELY paints a vivid image of wild, seizure-like flailing.
