Iyona (rgbb) - Freggie Superstar!

Nearly successful day 3.  Banana in the morning, housework done, but overdid it on the sweets.  I had a soda in the morning - I knew it wasn't a good idea, but somehow convinced myself it was the best thing to do.  When I got home I was really excited about a possible best-case-scenario situation at work happening in the next week or two.  So I had a celebratory candy bar . . . and then another one.  Two hours later and I'm still paying the price.  Sigh.  Had my first candy bar not been a "cheat" after the treat I had this morning, I know I would have stopped at one.  But because I'd already slipped up, I figured I might as well enjoy a day off while it was happening.  I think I just really need to avoid having any kind of treat in the morning so that I can look forward to something after work and then be done (or not have one at all).

there are certain times of the day when its really nice to have a treat - like you, I really like having a treat late in the day.  Some people have a bag of chocolates like Dove and treat themselves to one piece a day and savor it as they eat it. You are doing great!

Hi rgbb! I just joined your team with Liser on the minis.

I like your challenge, It looks very productive (I think I might steal the idea of the 5 minuts housework)

Jum... I know rhar feeling of letting go for a treat... Just enjoy it, but remember to make for it the next time. At the end is all about the long term ;)

See you around!

I just set up an accountbuddy thread - here is the link

I can never remember how to use links - this is my sorry attempt. I went with Springcrushers as a team name for now.

what should we have as our first group mini challenge? maybe one sugary treat a day? It can be anything really.

I know what you mean by once you have a taste, it's hard to stop. Good luck on fighting the second serve! Have you tried after having that one treat, cleansing with water? I find it stops my tastebuds from wanting more. On the downside you lose the great aftertaste, especially if it's chocolate.

This works amazingly for me too!!!

Thanks!  The 5 minutes/day has been awesome, except that it's SO easy to forget.  I got home later than usual last night after a meeting and just completely forgot.  I need to put notes around the house to remind me until it becomes more of a routine.  But after 15 total minutes so far this week, there are lots of little piles that have disappeared, which will allow me to focus on the big stuff this weekend.

Nice! Good job killing those little piles.

You know, I remember I read somewhere in NF about building that bat cave or something. If you forget you have to take 5 minutes to do stuff, what if you put something big over your bed, couch or door with a message like "do your 5 minutes now!"

As it gets in your way, you won't forget

Alright, days 4-7 weren't so hot.  I did make it every day with my housework and did my laundry on Friday, so it feels awesome to have so many things cleaned and organized in the house.  I'm sticking to 5 minutes a day again this week, just to keep the routine going since I missed a day last week (and put in more like 2 hours over the weekend), but I hope to increase it next week.

My sweets and freggies went down the drain.  I just can't stick to one sweet per day.  Once I have one, the craving continues until I have another one, and end up overdoing it.  I was right when I said I had a feeling that one sweet per day was going to be harder than no sweets at all!  Overdoing it on the sweets made me totally neglect my freggies as well.  Most of the time I wasn't even enjoying the treats that I ate, I was just eating them because they were in the house and I could.

So, for Week 2, I'm sticking to NO SWEETS at all, with the exception of my weekly treat with my mom.  I need to cleanse a bit and remind myself how amazing it feels to be sweets free.  Making that decision took a weight off my shoulders!  I'm also up to 2 freggies per day this week, and I want to really focus on that.

I thought something really great was going to happen at work, but it didn't turn out that way.  It's making this week a lot tougher to face, but not having the options for sweets will keep me focused on making it through this stressful situation without the help of sugar.

I was also thinking about this week's Adventurer's mini-challenge:  try to pay attention to when you are procrastinating, and find something more useful to do.  Eating sweets and drinking soda wastes so much of my time.  Yesterday, coming home from visiting a friend, I went through the drive-thru just so I could have a fountain soda.  The whole process added an extra 30 minutes to my trip, time that I could have been at home enjoying the Sunday evening with my family.  Even on a smaller scale, it can waste time at the grocery store, waste time at home, cause me to spend more time in front of the TV while eating a snack, etc.  I'm hoping this week I can get back to some of my good habits.

Oh, it looks like you're struggling...

Cutting out sweets may force you to not take them but don't forget we are here for the long term. If you stick to no sweets at all, think this should keep going for the rest of the challenge and beyond...

Anyway, I hope you succeed so you become my new hero!

I haven't seen the adventurer's mini, but it seems a good thing. Procrastination and how to better spend your time...

Sweets and soda are worst than one might expect...

Keep going Lyona!!! We're here for you!!!

Sorry to hear about your rough first week. :(

But I totally get that whole "can't stop after just one sweet". That's why I limit my Sugar Monsters to a certain number of days per week, not to a certain amount of sweets per day. Because I most probably couldn't stop as long as there was still stuff left in the box / bag / cupboard... :nightmare:

And it seems like those planned treat days worked out quite well for you in the last challenge. :star:

Thanks for the encouragement.  I *thought* one sweet per day would work out well, but it's just too tough to make the decision of when to eat it and then it seems like I just end up with more anyway.

I'm just doing the no sweets for this week to see how it goes, then I'll readjust my sweets challenge starting next week.  I will say that already going a day and a half without sweets is reminding me of how AMAZING I felt the first three weeks of the previous challenge.  Even though I don't foresee a life without treats, I'm wondering if this might be the way to go.  No sweets except for special occasions, with the understanding that I'll have weeks here and there where I eat them more often.  The problem is just that I want to eat them because I can, not because I even really want to or need to.  There are very few occasions where I NEED something sweet - mostly it's just really bad habits that make me feel like I just want to constantly eat sweets when they are available.  As with most of us, they're such a comfort and reminder of childhood.  Eating them gives me that warm, safe feeling - not just from the sugar, but from the memories of having treats as a kid.

Week 2, Days 1 and 2

Huge improvement over Week 1.  I'm already feeling better.  I just don't need sweets every day, so I'm happy to return to my no sweets policy for this week, and possibly roll it over to next week.  This morning I had a brief soda craving, but remembering that I'm not doing sweets led me to gladly choose a glass of ice water instead.

This housework thing is going well.  I had a lot to get done on Monday.  Instead of just my 5 minutes, I made a deal with myself that I could watch as much TV as I wanted (finally watching Orange is the New Black, Season 2!), I just had to get up between each episode and do 5 minutes of cleaning.  I got a lot done without feeling overwhelmed, and it's still fitting with our Mini theme of this week - not procrastinating.

Much more positive about Week 2 and feeling more confident that I can come up with a better life-long habit to help my relationship with sweets.

Sounds like a great day!  Yesterday I knew I needed to get some food prep done, but I was feeling too tired.  I motivated myself by setting my laptop on the kitchen counter with Naruto playing on Hulu while I did my food prep.  I think the key is tricking yourself to make it feel like you're being spoiled (getting to do something lazy like watching a TV show), but really getting work done right along with it!

lyona I really like your cleaning challenge.  I think I will take that one on next time.  I wish I had some words of wisdom to keep those sugar monsters at bay, but I run into the same problems.  I guess they only thing I can say, is that you are not alone in your quest to slay those sugar monsters.  :)

Week 2 has been a success, despite a roller-coaster of a quickly changing situation at work, and an unexpected new job offering.  Everything I've been dealing with this year has finally culminated in an opportunity I didn't think was possible, and had no idea would fall into my lap.

As such, I'm going to have to bow out of the rest of this challenge.  I've been following my guidelines this past week and will continue to do so, but know that I won't be able to keep up on here the way I'd like to with the sudden changes that are happening.  I hope to be back for the first summer challenge!

Good luck to everybody.  This place has been such an incredible forum of supportive and motivating people, and I'm amazed at the accomplishments we've all achieved.  Keep it up!

Iyona, I'm sad I won't be able to follow you for the rest of the challenge, but I get how hard it is to focus on healthy eating/exercise while your circumstances are changing! Best of luck with the new job and I can't wait to see you when you're back!
