Heidi: Surrender

No word on Ethan yet. Spoke to an officer this morning and sent a picture to him and am meditating and knitting. I feel as though this road with Ethan is some sort of spiritual journey that priests of Battlestar Galactica would understand.

Informed the Guardian ad litem of Ethan's situation, then got a text from my mom that he had been there all night and she hadn't sent him to school because he was afraid police would be involved. (Hello. They are already involved.)

Sent that information to the officers and then went to a meeting and picked up Vivian afterwards. Missed the call from the officer while I was away, and emailed him asking how to proceed.

Spent time on the phone arranging daycare for Vivian while I'm out this evening.

I leave it to the universe now. I am spent and need a rest.

Had court today from Ethan's previous bout of running away, and he didn't show up. I got scolded, he got a court appointed attorney, and we go back next week.

Meeting afterwards, and had a salad with grilled chicken for lunch.

Finished the body of the sweater and started a sleeve.

Cleaned out the fridge and set up chicken for batch cooking tomorrow and took out the trash. Laundry drying. Clean towels need folding. Dishes and kitchen and bathrooms clean.

Knitting a sleeve and watching The Following while I wind down.

Today was hellish.

Went to a meeting and came back to find that my phone had blown up with messages and missed calls and an officer was at my house looking for me. Apparently Ethan's conversation with a detective got lengthy at school and it moved to the police station while they waited for me and the Guardian ad litem, all being part of the most recent runaway situation. After speaking with the detective and Guardian ad litem, we all found out that the next hearing will be on Tuesday and will include my mom's petition for custody as well as Ethan's runaway charges.

I made the payment for the fruits and vegetables, and the first vegetable delivery is next week. I'm betting it will be spinach and asparagus, and I'm looking forward to it.

Floors and dishes are clean. Laundry is folded.

Hey. On Wednesday, my sponsor's sponsor had me to her house for a meeting and asked that I not knit but pay attention to the reading with pen and book and highlighter. That evening I seriously considered quitting AA.

Tonight at the meeting, I read along in the book, made notes and then knit while folks were sharing in a circle. My sponsor took me aside afterwards and said that I really needed not to knit because it means that I am not paying attention.

I sat in my car for half an hour thinking, then called my sponsor and asked if I could come over for a minute. I drove to her house and turned in my books and chip. Apparently AA isn't the right place for me. My sponsor tried to talk me out of it, saying that the important thing was to keep coming back. As long as I don't knit, I said. No thanks.

I know that this is me being petty, but it's the whole minefield I have of "we're here for everyone *except you* because you're too distracting" I can't count the number of times I have been told that I need to do less, say less, be less.

Thanks for listening.

I'm still committed to sobriety and the work I need to do personally, I'm just walking away from the "good enough" quotient that is sending me over the edge.

Kind of defeats the whole 'come as you are' policy, doesn't it? I think 12 step groups work very well for some people. I've never been one of them - I can turn my problems over to a higher power, it's the 'authority' of the sponsor that I rebel against. Knit on I say!

You have so much going on - sending hugs.

Exactly! Careful what you offer. I have a bunch of yarn that needs using!

Well, I have always been dicey on the 12 step situation - the whole format makes my anti-cult training scream blaring warning messages.

The good news is that I have a gajillion groups and meetings to choose from. So I went to a completely new-to-me meeting yesterday morning and it was brilliant. Bonus: another attendee brought her knitting, too, so I'll take that as a Final Answer on the matter. :)

After the meeting, Graeme and I went to visit his leather working mentor in the country. We miss living in the Back Of Beyond and discussing livestock matters. The whole tenor of conversation is different in the country, since what you do today won't be real for six months or more, and I loved that way of thinking and planning. Yes, we all agreed; it's high time for us to have a farm once more.

Vivian came home with a fever, the result of some molars trying to come in. We were all wiped out, so I made an executive decision to go out to eat. We got barbecue and it was delicious, but overall my cobbler is scads better.

T2SC and Terinatum, let's make a place with awesome food, paleo friendly, lots of yummy gluten free options, low sugar, organic, local, sustainable. Teros, you are in charge of the gym creation, and you and Graeme can set up the trails and training areas. Anyone want to come swing a hammer or spread mortar or move dirt or pull weeds? Anyone know anything about how to set up water turbines and solar arrays?

But most importantly: who wants to taste-test the scotch?

Thought experiment of the day:

The Master of the Universe comes to you and gives you a choice: eternal world peace and an end to hunger and suffering or to make Hogwarts real.

This evening I put together a table for my Office Area, and I really like being able to reach the printer. Bonus, there's space for books and the radio now, too. Managed to fubar the small shelf unit that I had been using. I love it precisely because it is small, but I'm thinking it is heading to the trash tomorrow if the gorilla glue doesn't fix it adequately enough.

Didn't go to a meeting today, and I'm okay with that. Spent the day with a still feverish but recovering VIvian, and a sleepyhead Graeme. Did a load of laundry, worked up some notes on the farm, and started a new project for work.

It was a really nice day.

Nice start to the farm! I envision a large farmhouse as the center with a huge outdoor dining area behind. Pergola with vines for some protection from, the elements. Think of the outdoor dining parties you have seen in movies that happen in Italy. Make sense? Another mess hall barn close by that can double as community area.

Don't forget chickens! Rock Cornish my suggestion for meat production and good egg production. Can add another breed for better egg production. I would look at a basic Angus, Angus/ Key breed for beef production. I understand your choice of the Dexter because of size but you can't beat the quick fattening time of an Angus and bang for your buck.

If we are having a smoker then we have to have hogs! Will get back to you with my suggestion of breeds. I know nothing of sheep but I can handle the rest of the livestock.

I'll second the Angus. Good choice! Friends of our family breed Angus (in Germany), though they cross-breed some of them with an almost-extinct German breed to help save the good qualities of the latter.

My shiny new "battle" log - probably more of a plodding-along log, but hey, it's mine!

Hmmm, soy, corn & hay I'm thinking. And are those cherry trees tart cherries? Rhubarb.

Definitely need a combine. And add duct tape and WD-40 to the supply list and we're all good.

Hives? Honey?

Cutting garden

I'm packing my bags. Definitely in to taste-test the scotch.

Hay and hives, definitely. Soy maybe. Corn is too heavy a feeder for long term, I find. But amen to the start cherries, flowers and duct tape. And a tractor, of course!

I love the taste of Dexter, personally, but for production value I like Hereford for temperament over Angus.

Yes, smoked pigs! And I love the outdoor dining area.

I like Buff Orpington for egg production, while the Rock are great freezer fillers.

We would make such a great team.
