Hello and welcome!  It brings a huge smile to my face to hear that I've inspired someone to do anything!  Do you run at all currently?  I'm going to go searching for your challenge thread to see what you have planned!  And yes...broccoli stumps.  Oddly enough, I'm starting to accept them more.  :frog:

On the ball as always!

Also, in awe at how you manage to get your point(s) across with less than one page of text :tongue:

Thanks!  I think my OCD has kicked back in a little since being off the Prozac.  The cleaner everything looks, the better I feel.   :wacko:

I walk ~20 minutes a day but I've only been able to run for a minute at a time. Running is something I've always wanted to do, but I convinced myself that I couldn't. So it's time for a paradigm shift. I need to alter my challenge goals to include running but I'll have to figure out how to structure it.

When I was little my mom told me that the tops of broccoli were trees. I always wanted to leave the trunk so the "leaves" would grow back.

Subbed :). Your goals look nice and simple, I hope you'll manage to complete them :).

Thanks!  I'm purposefully focusing on only exercise this go around so I don't overwhelm myself.  I have high hopes!

I like your challenge! Good luck!

Thank you very much!

I love your idea of the shared spreadsheet. What a great way to keep track, especially since we can't put good looking tables in BBcode. ;) I've tried.

A show of experience in that your goals are short and sweet. Good luck on your next challenge.

Thanks!  I'm kinda obsessed with charts and lists and stuff, so it's a great way for me to keep myself accountable…especially when I can't manage to get an update on my thread.

Before I started running, I could NOT run for more than 60 seconds without feeling as though I was dying or would have a major asthma attack.  I say, if I can do it - you can too!

What worked for me, is I would try to run for 60 seconds and then walk for however long I needed to catch my breath.  Once I was able to run for 60 seconds without getting winded, I would try for 2 minutes, and so on.

ALSO - my parents told me that broccoli was little trees too!  :lol:

I really want to get back into running. Maybe next challenge that will be a goal! Good luck, you're awesome

Aw, thanks!  I would love to help you get back into running.  I must search for your challenge thread so I can see what you have planned for the next six weeks!

Must be a parent thing. I still think of broccoli as mini trees. I always went for the leaves and the trunk was left behind because I was "pruning" them in hopes they'd grow fruit like our mango tree. XD

I like your method of increasing running times. I can't jog 10 seconds without feeling winded. Any tips on counteracting that feeling of ineptness when you see these fit people bypassing you for the second/third time whilst you're walking and gasping like you're about to have a heart attack? It's quite demotivating when that happens.

Can you maybe run somewhere off the track? Like, on streets, in the park, etc., anywhere where you're not doing rounds? For me it's always been motivating to run in a beautiful environment where I would not encounter people more than once, so that I would not feel embarrassed that I was walking more than 90% of the time.

Also, people don't really care what others do. The fit people are there to improve themselves, not to laugh at others. They also have started somewhere, and will rather admire you for improving your fitness and not look down on you. How else do you think those people got fit ;).

Don't feel inept!  Never compare yourself to others as they were in your shoes at one point.  Think of where I started:  I was a slave to my asthma and never in a million years ever dreamed I'd be running 3+ miles...for fact, I remember when my biggest wish was to jog for 10 minutes without stopping and never even thought THAT was possible.  I used to gasp so hard that I felt like I would die after 40 seconds or so.  My secret - I have a treadmill in the basement of my home where I can run and NO ONE sees me!   :tongue:

Also, I don't even own an inhaler anymore, so I truly believe that anyone can get wherever they want to go with a small amount of determination and self-love!   :D

This is very true!  I would never dream of judging anyone who was trying to improve themselves!  If I see someone trying, I always think, "You go, girl/guy!"   :frog:

I'm sore today.  I had a fantastic, yet intense 3.5 mile run with a .5 mile cool down walk yesterday.  I pushed myself for speed, so I think (though I won't know until I'm actually on my treadmill :lol:) that I'll opt for an easier pace tonight.  My aim for this evening is 3.1 miles running and .4 miles walking for a grand total of 3.5 on the treadmill.  I'd like to reiterate that a post-run stretch/foam roll is not an option!  I stretch and foam roll for at least 10 minutes immediately after my treadmill workout.  I just think it's a good practice to have to help prevent injury.

This week, I'm trying to avoid wheat at all costs.  I kinda hardcore binged on it this past weekend, and my body hates me for it (probably another reason I'm more sore than usual).  For fact, I'm aiming to only eat organic rolled oats in the morning for breakfast as my only allowed grain for the next seven days and see how my body feels.

Lastly, I ordered a Probiotic Supplement that should arrive tomorrow!  I used to drink the little "shots", but they just had WAY too much sugar in them, so I'm very excited for this new product.  It's gluten-free AND sugar-free!

Congrats on running 3.5 miles! I know that's longer than Km, so that makes it even more impressive to me. :)

Good luck on the no-wheat diet. I've been going quite well considering how much I love noodles. I don't even allow myself a cheat grain (which would have been rice if I gave myself the choice. I'm Asian after all. :P). I hope the experiment goes well.

Are the probiotics to replace "shots"? What are your "shots" normally made of? The quotations around that word makes me think it's not the typical alcoholic shot that I'm used to.

Thanks!  I was curious, so I had to convert miles to kilometers and 3.5 miles = 5.6 kilometers.  I like the sound of that even better (even though it's the same - LOL)!

I love noodle too!  I love bread and noodles and crackers and AND AND!!  It's so hard!  What's even more difficult is that you have to read labels SO closely!  I made canned tomato soup last night and discovered later that one of the listed ingredients is wheat flour.  Eah.  :angry:

And yes, I'm using this new capsules as a replacement to the "shot".  The PlusShots are a little (non-alcoholic ;)) drink that I typically take once a day, but like I said - there is a lot of sugar in those, and I can't find the StraightShots anymore (those ones don't have added sugar).  I just like the way I feel when I take a daily dose of probiotics, especially because I rarely eat yogurt anymore.

Every stride I took on the treadmill last night felt like I was trying to run though quicksand.  I did NOT want to run.  I did NOT want to be on the treadmill.  I did NOT get very far, but at least I did something.  I wore the wrong shoes, I was so mentally exhausted from work I honestly felt like vomiting, and I hated every bead of sweat that dripped down my face.  Some runs are better than others!

That you managed to run on your treadmill, shows that you're a great person :). Next run will be better again!

Haha!  Thank you - I'm sure I didn't feel like a great person the other day, but I agree with the next run being better for sure!

Ooh, so the shots are probiotic shots. I never knew people call them that.

Good work on even climbing on the treadmill and giving it a go. That takes some willpower. Like you said, some days are better than others.

Yeah, I like the probiotics shots better because I'm not a juice drinker, and the other products they carry require you to drink an 8 ounce serving of a probiotic beverage.  This is just another reason I'm loving the supplement capsules.  I just take on in the morning with a glass of water and I'm good to go!   :)

I have to run tomorrow after work, and I know it couldn't be any worse than my run last Thursday!  I just need to remember that my older running shoes have lived their life and now must be retired to walking or something.

I'm sitting here thinking how I've pretty much limited my goals and points to ONLY running and yoga.  I love both, but I really want to incorporate and allow points for strength training.  I haven't done any kind of strength training in quite some time because…well, DOMS.  :rolleyes:  But I want muscles.  So, I'm slightly modifying my goal, point, and grading system as to not limit myself to only TWO TYPES OF EXERCISE.

GOALS

Establish a minimum of 4 days of exercise every week as long as I am physically able:

1 – Run

2 – Yoga/Stretching

3 – Strength Train

4 â€“ "Fun-tivites" such as swimming, hiking, badminton, etc on weekends

GRADING

Shared Spreadsheet

Running = 1 point

Yoga = ½ point per 20 minutes

Strength Training = 1 point

Extra Credit = ½ point per additional activity (badminton, hiking, swimming, etc.)

A = 24 (+) points

B = 20-23 points

C = 16-19 points

F = 15 (-) less

On a side note that I find a bit of humor in:  I slept HARD last night.  So hard in fact that when I woke up, my face (more specifically, my lower lip) felt weird.  I realized that my hand somehow ended up under my mouth at some point while sleeping and my FitBit was partially embedded into my chin.  It is now after 4:00 in the afternoon, and my lower lip still feels slighting tingly.  I'm worried that I may have done permanent nerve damage.  LOL ;)

I'm going to give deadlifts a try tonight.  My boyfriend told me that I'm to start with 65 pounds and do 3 sets of 6 to get used to the movement.  I'm very excited!  It'll be nice to have him monitor my form.

In addition, I'll be running about 20 minutes or so.

I feel like that, along with some dumbbell stuff for my arms, should be worth a point for the day.   :frog:
