So it's been a while since I really got on here. I've tried getting back into the swing of things several times this year and bullshit keeps dragging my back down into depression. Ultimately, these have been situations that are incredibly overwhelming, so I don't blame myself entirely, but it's time to kick my own ass once again. Normally my challenge threads have a theme, but this time around I'm going simple. So without further ado:

 

Ravnos' quest for redemption

 

Quest 1 - Be Strong - Hit the gym 3 days a week. No exceptions. No changes. No complaints.

Quest 2 - Be Flexible - Yoga every morning, plus an extra session at the end of each workout. Stretch and loosen the muscles.

Quest 3 - Be Mindful - Meditate 5 days a week, every morning after waking up, for at least 5 minutes. Five minutes of mindful meditation every morning will help me start my day off better and stay focused to remain on task.

Quest 4 - Be Clean - Eat clean, 100% Paleo 6 days a week, allow for one cheat day. No drinking (alcohol) except on cheat day for the duration of the challenge. Furthermore, some friends are moving (sad) and giving us a bunch of really nice furniture they don't want to take with them (cool). I need to clean, get rid of some old furniture and get the house organized to fit all the new, really nice stuff, in.

Quest 5 - Be a Tracker - Track food and workouts, budget weekly, plan my week every Sunday and maintain my schedule in order to reform positive habits and routine.

 

That's it. Simple, SMART goals. Time to get to work...

Those are good quests.  I am surprised how much better I am doing when I am tracking stuff.  Congrats on the bonus furniture - that is always awesome!

Because the week starts on Sunday, I had a super productive day yesterday. Cleaned up the kitchen a bit, scrubbed my microwave (I don't use it often so I often neglect to clean it, it's been filthy for a while), packed up winter scarves, gloves and similar paraphernalia and... got rid of some furniture. I had an old bookshelf/tv cabinet blocking the closet in my entryway for a long time that's out on the curb with a "FREE" sign taped to it, and I posted my futon on craigslist and already got a buyer. Now I just need to rearrange the living room and kitchen, and we'll be ready to bring the new furniture in (for the most part).

 

Had a dream last night someone broke into our apartment and stole a bunch of stuff - comics, video games, movies, vinyl collection, fiancee's jewelry, etc. Super paranoid today... hopefully no one decides sneaking up on me is a good idea, don't want to have to explain that to the police...

 

Productive changes begun. Time to keep this shit up.

Had a dream last night someone broke into our apartment and stole a bunch of stuff - comics, video games, movies, vinyl collection, fiancee's jewelry, etc. Super paranoid today... hopefully no one decides sneaking up on me is a good idea, don't want to have to explain that to the police...

Taking a break from work to make some tea, so I figured mid-day update!

 

Breakfast today was eggs, spinach, sausage and a little salsa.

Lunch today was tuna with a hard-boiled egg, a carrot and red bell pepper.

 

Beverages consumed: 2 cups of coffee, 2 cups of tea 1.5 liters of water (so far). About to have third cup of tea.

 

Meditated and did yoga this morning. Fiancee is sick, so no gym today, but I'm going to do today's Spartan Race WOD, which is:

 

Warm-up (This is mine, I didn't like their warm-up)

50 Mountain Climbers

50 Jumping Jacks

10 Burpees

x2

 

Main Set

Run 20 minutes

Then

TRIFECTA: x4

 

Then run 20 more minutes.

 

(You can use any three bodyweight exercises of your choice in a circuit workout like this.)

 

I'll do yoga again after this workout, which I am going to do OUTSIDE BECAUSE IT'S FINALLY FUCKING NICE OUT HOLYSHITIHAVEWINDOWSOPEN!

 

After this I'll have a protein shake and depending on what time it is go grocery shopping before dinner...

 

Not sure what dinner is going to be yet. Winging it.

Have I mentioned I fucking hate running? Ugh.

 

So apparently I am in worse shape than I thought after not working out for more or less 5 months.

 

Here's what I actually managed to do:

 

20 minute run. Super out of breath by the end, but parts of it were uphill and parts were stairs, and I feel like I did good. 1.5 miles at a 5 mph pace... not too bad.

 

50 mountain climbers

50 jumping jacks... fuck burpees my legs are already falling off.

 

1 min. rest

 

37 mountain climbres

50 jumping jacks

 

1 min. rest

 

10 drop push-ups... holy fuck, really? Ow...

15 squats

15 lunges (each leg)

 

1 min. rest

 

10 wide-arm push-ups on blocks... fuck the drop part.

15 squats

15 lunges each leg..... aaaand nope. I'm done.

 

Sat and rested for 3 minutes. Said: "No. Fuck this. I'm better than this."

 

2x10 box jumps, 19" box.

3x10 bench dips

 

Came inside, sat for 5 minutes. Did 10 minutes of yoga. Pounded a protein shake. Nom.

 

Dear sweet lord Cthulhu I missed you protein powder. You are delicious.

 

My legs are going to feel like jello tomorrow, I can already tell.

 

But hey, I worked out. And I'm almost through my third liter of water. Probably hit 4 by the end of the day, which is a great number...

 

Now to figure out dinner...

Had some cheese and a no-sugar protein bar as a snack later in the evening to cover some caloric needs and boost my protein a little more.

Today:

 

Sore as fuck. But in a good way. Got up, meditated, did yoga, ate, drank tea, showered, went to work.

 

On my way to work I got hit by a MASSIVE wave of depression out of nowhere. Struggled through work. Had a big salad for lunch, went grocery shopping carried 77 lb of groceries about a mile home (Fitocracy does not like it when you enter in farmer's carry distances over 499 ft... so I have 10 entries for it just to cover the full distance lol). And here I sit. Just had a snack of an oz of cheese and an apple cinnamon chia bar.

 

Planning on skillet ground beef with red peppers, carrots and green beans for dinner.

 

Need to drink more water today.

i haven't tried many (maybe like 3 different types/yogis) but I really like http://www.dirtyyogaco.com/ it's Vinyasa-style yoga and offers a beginners course to learn proper mechanics

bonus: pledge #10 is  "we well, whenever possible, bring more swearing to yoga" gotta love that kind of attitude!

That is a lot of groceries.  I have had a case of mineral water in the car for 2 days.  It is two city blocks from my car to my apartment.  I bought 2 cases.  The first one came home right away.  The other must sit and think about what it has done.  Plus, now that it is the work week, I hate carrying boxes in a suit.

 

Great meals!  I get stuck in a rut with my recipes.  A delicious rut, but a rut nonetheless.
