OUR HERO HAS VANQUISHED THE COLD HARSH WINTER.

 

it's definitely spring. the garden needs gardening and the motorcycle is on the road.

 

and with the changes in season comes a simultaneous CHANGE IN BUSINESS LEVEL.

y'all, I'm so glad that the snow is gone but I am starting to feel very threatened by the spring. like, there is SO MUCH GARDENING TO DO. DOES OUR LAWNMOWER EVEN WORK?

 

I am so busy!

 

so I am setting up the most boring challenge ever and you will all just have to keep in mind:

all the sparkles come from ME. I have no fancy pictures, I have no flashy gifs. I HAVE NO SHOWER RIGHT NOW IN MY HOUSE. all I have is my list of things that need doing.

 

so what's that list?

 

GOAL 1. KEEP BUSY.

(as if there were ever any chance of me not being busy.)

it's important to me to stay active and keep doing workouts. last challenge I figured out that I'm pretty comfortable doing 4 workouts a week, plus my tkd Saturday. So! I will keep it up. 5x a week activity. one of those days can be tkd. anything goes: running, bodyweight, stretching or yoga, weights. just. KEEP BUSY. a busy lifestyle is good for you.

 

I really want to keep focusing on getting to my -UPs. I have been having a hard time this last challenge because my elbow got so super sore! (it's still sore! waaaah!) so I am going to dial this back to a more progression oriented approach. I'm going to start with the Start Bodyweight Training - I'll work on progressions #2 and 5, for pull-ups and push-ups. I want to do this 2x a week. maybe I should do it more, but for now 2x a week should give me plenty of time for my elbow to recover (HOPEFULLY).

 

GOAL 2. EAT RIGHT.

y'all know I'm a daily weigher and a calorie counter. I think I'm at the point in my weight loss journey where I need to stop eating back my exercise. Last challenge I did a good job of staying within budget INCLUDING eating back exercise. This time, no eating back. * with the exception! of my crazy dojo days, and I can eat back like, 3/4 of my calories from any exercise that is 600 calories or greater. I think that's fair. Honestly, I need so much more protein and fat when I work out a lot. I'm also hoping that spring will bring hiking, and that would be a 600+ calories day too.

 

there is ONE WEEK that I will not worry about this goal -- this week. I will do my best, but my birthday is on wednesday and I'm traveling with friends to Portland OR on Thursday through Monday. I want to eat all the delicious food while I'm away. so, I'll do my best to be smart about my choices and portion sizes.

 

GOAL 3. SELF-CARE = FOSTER SPARKLYNESS

Clearly I am running on fumes. I don't have a shower. I have to go to the gym or the office early or my mother in laws every day that I want to get clean. I have work and family commitments. In order to keep myself sparkly and not feeling despondent I need to take care of myself. These are the self-care things I am going to do:

* acupuncture - every 3 weeks. this is covered by flexible spending. it's good for me. it will likely really help my elbow, among other things.

* chiropractic - at least every 1 1/2 weeks. maybe every week. again. good for me. I've got a sore hip and arm from driving a lot for work. this is my recovery.

* massage - one of these during the challenge. again, covered by flexible spending, and good for me. my muscles are a disaster (especially hamstrings and calves) and this has been very helpful for me.

* ride the motorcycle as much as possible to work - this is fun for me! I need to do it! I also need to figure out how to do this while also going to the gym. that's part of the challenge.

* take a bath in my new bathroom as soon as it's done (I am hoping there's just 2 more weeks on the project!) - there has to be some reward! get some nice smelly bath bombs or something from lush so I can break the tub in properly.

* hey read books. no requirement, but hey, read books.

 

LIFE GOAL.

 

KEEP CRAFTING. this went super well last time. I love making things! I need to keep it up. so, as I said last time: weekly crafting is required. I've got knitting and spinning in progress right now. I'll take pictures and share it with you. hopefully this will also lead to me finishing the closet. I made HUGE progress on the closet last time, and I would love to finish it up.

 

 

so. I need to stay on track, but I also need some space to wrangle a little more peace and order into my life. I know this is a lot of stuff, but the routine of the exercising is important to me, and the eating, well, that's mostly dialed in right now. hopefully goal 3 will be easy and profitable. profitable in SPARKLES.

I love you, and your theme, and this in general.

 

Not eating back exercise but rather striving for a sensible gross seems to work well in my experience - hope you will find the same to be true!

Before I forget let me put these things right here:

(it bumped up from yesterday because I had chinese food for dinner and a lot of cookies at knitting party. resulting in the likely underestimated overage of calories pictured below.)

and, just to celebrate day 0 and day -1: sat. was day -1, and I had to miss 1/2 of boxing because of a little league parade that Eleven needed to attend. still hit the other stuff, though. then day 0 - I went for a 3 mile run outside. afterwards I was stretching and noticed that my right leg (Surgery leg) was so much more shaky than the left one - which makes me realize that yes, I am really well recovered from this ACL thing but I'm probably still just at 90 or 95%. still more work to do. no point in resting on laurels right now.

 

 

I love you, and your theme, and this in general.

I love YOU. and yeah, I think it's time to kind of dial it in a little. if my activity tracker is to be believed my TDEE is a little lower than I thought, so not eating back exercise will be a good shake-up.

the shower situation is a constant drag on my energy level. I am always planning out where we will shower next. it's a scheduling nightmare.

 

maybe only 2 weeks to go. what the heck.

GUYS IT'S MY NERDIVERSARY!

I need to put up some progress pics for you. I can do that later tonight. I keep all progress pics on my at-home computer. NOT THE WORK COMPUTER. because HUMAN RESOURCES.

 

Day 1 recap!

 

I didn't go to the gym, nor did I shower. TAKE THAT SOCIETY. actually I was in good shape - when I went for spinning/knitting party on sunday I showered at my friends house.

 

I rode the motorcycle in! yay! it was a tiny bit too cold - it was like, 40 degF in the morning? which I am ok with for about 30 minutes, but at 45 min into my commute I was thinking things like: "as long as I can feel my fingers they're not frost bitten. they don't feel great, but at least I know they're not frostbitten." It wasn't terrible. my ride is about 1 hour long.

that said the ride home was AMAZING even though I was running late and took the highway.

 

I had acupuncture! it was also amazing! I am all messed up, and took so many needles. every point she poked at was sore and got a jab. she did something for my adrenals (because I'm so stressed) and my muscles (because my legs are so stiff) and my elbow (which I almost forgot about, holy cow).

 

then after that it was home where I ate a nice dinner of leftover pasta in garlic oil on top of about 4 cups of arugula and then more cookies than I should have eaten. but that's ok. I also had about 10 glasses of water. overestimate. more like 5.

 

Day 2!

up and to the gym. I did NOT ride the motorcycle, because it was going to be cold and rainy. I can handle cold, I can handle rainy, but both at once is totally miserable.

 

today is officially 4 weeks since shower project started. WHAT THE HECK SHOWER PROJECT. 

 

today I did weights. was it opposite day or something? because all the upper body exercises I normally do easily were hard, and the one that always gives me hassle (shoulder press!) was super easy. OPPOSITE DAY.

 

I had a dentist appointment and ANOTHER PERFECT CHECK-UP, MY TEETH ARE AMAZING.

I love birthday week dental work because I start out my next year with super clean teeth.

(file this under things you probably never hear from anyone ever.)

 

tonight is tkd.

tomorrow is birthday!

I'm going to ride the motorcycle to work!

we are going to go for burgers and beers with my inlaws and the boys. mostly the burgers, the kids and inlaws will not have any beers.

and i will go to the gym in the morning for a quick run, I think.

I can't believe you lasted 4 WEEKS without a shower! Kudos for not going crazy.

 

oh I don't know... I feel pretty crazy about this. I mean, I keep holding it together but the sheer amount of energy that goes into ensuring my own cleanliness is just over the top!

Hello amazing lady! so much love to you on your birthday/nerdversary/amazing week!

 

I am with you on the lower calories, we can be hungry together, fighting the good fight. After a few weeks of experimenting, I'm just sure my RMR is lower than I expect it to be. That, and I might be getting calorie creep (1 tbl of peanut butter, I'm looking at you!). I figure keeping my daily calories lower will help for things I can't or don't accurately track. It's gotta hit a loss point somewhere, right? So far besides a little hunger pains, it's not intolerable. All I gotta say is, how the heck do people eat 1200 calories a day?? that's like, nothing. I'm doing 1400 and geez louise.

 

I cannot wait for progress pics! I'm practically bouncing in my chair. Photo proof is one of my absolute favorite things! and you've worked so hard. I want to seeeee <3
