I’m out of excuses.

 

When I started here, I was an enthusiastic amateur who had just decided to maybe give this fitness thing a try because otherwise I was going to die. I might be hyperbolizing there, but I assure you that it’s not by much. In my time at NF, I’ve gone from “clueless†to “aware of being clueless but getting quite good at coming up with the right answers about fitness.†It’s an important transition that has left me with no excuses.

 

I planned to get from my previous weight (459 at the time) to 400 pounds in a year, by the end of October and my next birthday. I am currently at 447, having lost eight pounds during the previous six-week challenge. Good, yes. I’m proud. But there’s gotta be more.

 

Time to get real.

Challenge 1: Keep my daily calorie intake to no more than 1800. This is in addition to my half-ass version of Whole30 (what you’ll see me refer to as Whole23.4, which is essentially Whole30 but with a blind eye turned to my consumption of cheese). This might be a bit of a stretch, so I’m willing to gauge my efforts and see whether I’ve scheduled too few calories here. I suspect that I’m right on the money. We shall see. This is all a mad experiment with yours truly as the subject anyway.

 

Challenge 2: Work out five days a week. That’s Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat. Monday and Friday are the newcomers to my previous workouts, and they will include exercises that I can do at home. These will be the days for slosh pipe walks, kettlebell swings, and sledge work. Also I plan to put my ab roller to good use, and do some bodyweight squats as well. Tuesday and Saturday are gym days, wherein I work my arms. Bench Presses and dumbbell rows feature heavily, but until now not heavily enough. I will find more things to add to them. Thursday is legs. Calves for sure, both sitting and standing, and squats with a barbell. I know that it’s the great cliché to have the weightlifter with the chicken legs, but the fact is that I weigh 440+ pounds. I can kick a hole in a barn door just from the muscle I’ve accumulated while walking around. All this in addition to the walks I take with my lady.

 

Challenge 3: I’m a writer. Hi! I’ve started work on The Mercenary’s Guide to Sunken St. Louis, the second book in the Mercenary’s Guide series. I want to get a ton of it done. I tend to view a day as wasted if I don’t get 2,000 words written. There are 42 days in a NF challenge cycle. I want to have 80,000 words done in this story by the end of this challenge cycle. That’ll be about halfway through the book, I figure.

 

Challenge 4: As always, come here and at least say hi once a day.

1. Total calorie count, according to my app: 1,479. That includes after-dinner snacks. It's amazing how far eggs and veggies can get you.

2. Did my heavy sledge, my KB swings, and my ab roller. That sucker hates me.

Nice. I was trying to think of a badass title that didn't involve swearing, so this is what I ended up with. =P

2. No workout. Wednesday is one of my off-days.

Tomorrow I should be able to get to threads and do things like comment. Thursday I volunteer at a local visitor information station, and they have free wifi and not much for me to do once I'm done with my words for the day. See you then!

I'm doing a writing challenge too, but I set my goal at 100 words  a day :P Working up to 2000 maybe? That's pretty impressive though xD

I got my writing total per day where it is now through two very powerful tools: NaNoWriMo, and not having a job other than writing. So you know. There's that.

 

Today!

 

1. 1640 calories. Some of that was cheese.

2. Went walking with my lady this afternoon. She hadn't been feeling well, and wasn't up to heading to the gym after work. I had seen her earlier that day, so I went ahead and went to the gym and did my leg workout before the walk. Woo!

3. 2030 words. Turns out the Pixie, Shortage Of Honey, is a bit of an accidental smartass.

Ranger Tears Lid Off!

 

Lid Tears Back.

 

1. ...2700. I was doing so well until dinner, and there was pizza. Also there were breadsticks. I can resist anything but temptation, as the saying goes, and this time I failed to resist that. I need to remember that putting myself in those situations leads to me failing; I have a much harder time resisting the calories in front of me when they're actually in front of me. >.<

2. Did my home workout today, which includes the sledge, slosh pipe, and kettlebells. And the ab roller, which hates me personally after I carry the slosh pipe around for a while. I think they have a rivalry going on.

Things went a lot better today! Sadly, not so much yesterday. Damn birthday parties. Turned out that I was expected at two of them. Did I have fun? Hells yeah. Did I follow my diet or workout plan? No, on an impressive scale.

 

Yesterday:

1. 2500+. And you know, it wasn't the cake. I can resist cake, 'cause I've reset a lot of my mental defenses to "hey, stay the fuck away from the cake, Sparky." Grilled, barbequed chicken? Not so much. Sneaky chicken is sneaky. Fail.

2. Ran all over town, didn't get to goto the gym. Fail.

3. 0 words written. Trifecta of fail.

4. ...quadfecta? That's a thing now.

 

Today.

2. Walked a mile with my lady. Better'n nothing, and I laugh when I realize that I couldn't easily have done that much this time last year.

3. 4018 words today, putting me back on track in spirit if not in absolute deed.

I have to be careful of living a little because I tend to live a lot more after that, with butter.

 

1. 1840 calories today. Which...now that I write it down, for some reason I was thinking all day that my goal was 1700, and that I went over. Turns out 1800 is my actual goal!

2. So the slosh pipe slipped off my shoulders and the temporary cap popped off, so right now it's just a pipe. But hey, at least there was the sledge and kettlebell and the ab roller. When I refill the Bloody Thunderstruck Slosh Pipe I'm gonna add in some antifreeze for next winter.

3. 2048 words today. Right on sched.
