SO.....I made something not-so-healthy today: sweet potato chips.

I was really craving a good hard crunch and lettuce just wasn't handling it, and I'd already had about 200 grams of celery during lunch. So I made them. I guess it's good that I didn't go to the store and buy any, and there wasn't anything on them, just plain, but it satisfied the craving. I don't feel bad about it at all. It's not like I'm going to go through that trouble all the time, goodness no. Perhaps next time I should try baking them instead. I'm not sure how that would turn out, but it's gotta be better than frying.

Good thing is that the momentary depression/hate cycle has ceased. I still have that half kilo, it just doesn't bother me so much anymore. Nothing like throwing yourself into work to take your mind off yourself! Speaking of, it's mid-term week. I simply love giving tests. haha. I'm going to a separate kind of hell for that one. Only thing is with tests, you also have to grade them. Bugger.

My shins are in incredible amounts of pain still, but I think that's more because I wear non-supportive shoes at work. And most of my work is standing and walking. I think my shin splints happened in the first place because of the shoes I bought to replace my older running shoes. I hated them from the start, but broke them in and wore them all the time. I still hate them, but I hate wasting money more. Alas, lesson learned. Your feet will tell you when your shoes suck.

For now I'm going to put back on my old shoes, try to get away with them at work, and maybe try a short bout of running on Friday. Ice, rest, and ibuprofen for my legs until then. Second mini-upper-body-only workout done this week. I was really hoping to be running today, but as soon as I got back from work my legs were on fire. Tried one jumping jack and my shins cried for mercy. Boy do I wish I had a massage therapist as a partner.

Anyway, enough blabbering. Back to my jug of water that needs to be finished tonight

Sweet potato is better than potato. It's still a good choice. Maybe next time sprinkle some salt and pepper on them, or some paprika (powdered) or some herbs... experiment! Glad you're feeling better.

Alright, week 3....

Down a kilo, feeling pretty good about that. I really want my weight loss to be happening faster, but I know that what I'm doing now is sustainable and healthy. I had a majority of paleo days this week, and have knocked out grains for breakfast for two weeks. So, level up on the NFA diet levels!

However, this weekend was spent like many others, drinking calories like a mad woman, and smoking. I had quit smoking around 65 days ago. Unfortunately, I'm restarting that countdown now. I could look at it as a slip-up and not really a start over, but I can't do that in my mind anymore. I feel awful about it. I just got a bit drunk and didn't really care at the time. So, now I'm on day 2 again. I swear I'll kick this awful habit. Just need to be more conscious of my choices.

That goes for a lot of things these days. My choices are important to my health and well-being, and should be made more consciously. Dang birthday celebrations. Today will be spent cooking for the week once I go to the store for foods. I have some new ideas for lunches this week. I'm pretty excited about it!

Eh, I got lazy and didn't actually make it last night. haha. Yesterday was a terribly lazy day. I didn't do my workout, nor go on a run. So, I have to make up for that this week. I didn't feel 100% at all from the weekend. I swear, I can't party until 7am anymore....what's wrong with me? haha

Today I'm making a new commitment to actually being good and keeping my diet in check. I'm currently 2.4kgs away from a major milestone I'm working towards, so I should be able to get there easily within this challenge as long as I keep with it and don't get sidetracked with my foods.

Only problem is that I'm now going through nicotine withdrawal, again. I forgot how much this sucked. So, let's not do that again, shall we? My chest hurts from smoking, my throat is somewhat hoarse, and I've got cravings for more. Man, cigarettes are bad, mmkay?

Smoking+is+bad+mmmkay+_22c55d57920a3c621

I was on a shuttle bus this morning taking my long commute today, and thinking about nothing but my new lifestyle. I can honestly say I'm surprised I've gotten this far. I mean, I have plenty more to go, but I think I need to take a moment sometimes and thank myself for taking this journey to save my life. I have bad days, as everyone does, but those bad days lead me on to important lessons that sometimes I need to be hit in the head with. Like the health hazards of smoking.

Anyways, anyone else reading this, I'd like you to know how proud I am of you during this challenge as well. Even if you're not doing as well as you planned or hoped, you're on the right path. Keep going.

So, I made that riceless kimbap, but the vegetables in it are far too wet for the laver. Perhaps drying them off a little more than I already did would work. Here's what I put in mine:

1 sheet laver

thinly sliced zucchini

thinly sliced carrot

thinly sliced mushrooms

smoked salmon

little bit of mayo

little bit of sriracha(because you gotta)

I just set it on top, and rolled it really tightly. Cut into individual pieces and enjoy.

Next time, I will definitely have to dry out the veggies more. Perhaps a little time low-temp roasting on a grill pan would do it. that sounds delicious, actually. I'll be making it again, for sure, but probably not with salmon. I found out I'm not a huge fan of smoked salmon, but I had it in the freezer and decided to use it to get rid of it. Won't be buying it again.

I'm not a huge fan of salmon either. But I think it's great to try things even though sometimes they don't work out. I always wondered how people make "noodles" out of courgette (zucchini) and not have a soggy meal. Roasting / grilling them sounds good.

I have tried that before, and I typically put a bunch of the "noodles" in and a bit of oil on medium-high heat. I've seen so many recipes with adding a good bit of water, but I found this just makes it really soggy. Let the veggie take care of its own water. That's what it does best. As for how to make it, I use a regular grating peeler. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it, haha.

I wasn't really ever exposed to much seafood growing up since I come from a landlocked place, so seafood is mostly a challenge for me. That being said, moving to a peninsula has taught me a lot of things about seafood. I'm always for trying something once. You never know. The worst that can happen is you don't eat it again. The best is that you find a new favorite food!I like grilled salmon, or pan-fried salmon, but the smoked salmon is just....bleh. No thank you. But, I gave it a shot.

Now, off to do a workout! Pumped!!!!

My decision yesterday to do two workouts at once have caused some DOMS like a motherfudger.

Tomorrow I'm going shopping for something I can wear to a hash this weekend, and attempting a run. It's warming up here toooooo fast! Got to 30 degrees today! GAH!

Subbed for the A&S mini challenge (yes I know I'm weeks behind on getting that done).  You have some great goals.  I am curious, what is a hash?  I have seen it on your thread and on Salambander's thread, but I'm not sure what it is.

In a hash, you meet at the starting point and the leaders explain how they've marked the trail ahead, and they might or might not tell you how long it is. Then you follow the markings (usually flour) and can walk or run it. Some of them will deliberately lead you astray but they will tell you it's a false trail later on and then you go back to when you know you were right. At the end of the hike you get in a circle again, sing songs and drink beer. People have to down a beer (or water) if they got lost, it's their first time, they Jay walked, or broke any of the rules of the hash. Some hash groups are more strict than others, eg no pointing with your fingers. It's a lot of fun and a good way to meet new people. And it's been around for decades but it's kind of unknown...

A hash is kind of like fox hunting, but with people. You set off a "hare," who lays a trail for you to follow. It can be uphill, downhill, completely the wrong way to trick you, etc. The goal is to catch the hare. The hashers follow the trail to the end, where we all have a few drinks and be merry. It's a drinking club with a running problem. More here. It's super fun.

The hash meet ups sound fun. I'm going to have to check if there are any groups close to me.

There usually is. Hashers are everywhere!

So, today I went shopping for the hash tomorrow, as I'm supposed to have a red dress for the charity run. However, I did not find one, as Korean dress sizes are not conducive to people with a large body. So, I came back with four new records to make my house sound happy, and ended up downing some sugar treats. I shouldn't have, but I did. So, today is not a paleo day, but it's the first I've had all week non-paleo. I don't feel better after having all that sugar, though. I don't so much feel guilty as I just feel like I ate something that doesn't agree with me. I guess that's a good thing.

Eh, hash tomorrow. I'm excited about that. Get to see my good friend Salambander and introduce her to some crazy kids up north here.
