Kyliewyotie
Hey Everybody. I am currently out of town for work, its going to be a rough one. Some of you may remember that not to long ago I was working long days with only 1 day off for about 3 months.Well I had some time back to normal, and got sent off to help out a different facility.I'm in jersey, doing 16 hour days for 10 days. Ok so my gripping is done, please forgive my complaining lol. I will be home on Tuesday the 24th, and plan that to be the real start of my challenge. In the mean time I am just trying to make sure I don't loose the marbles I have left. (I do have a plan so I don't stray to far while on my trip) As the tittle hints to, my goals deal with the number 5, why? Because I love old Kung Fu movies, and 5 Deadly Venoms is one of my favorites, and because its as high as I can count without using 2 hands. But mostly because I will have 5 active weeks of this challenge. Goal 1 - Lose 5 lbsMethod: Eat less than 13510 calories a week. That works out to 1930 a day.I plan to measure weekly, so that if I want to splurge on the weekend I can earn it during the week.I went over my dailies on the weekends last time, and I think this method will hold me accountable to make that up.I have had success using myfitness pal, I used it to calculate how much I need to eat to lose 1lb a week.I didn't input exercise, so that will be bonus towards the loss. Goal 2 - Increase lifts by 5%Method: I have been using a modified strong lifts program, I plan to stick to it.My buddy Tinkerer did over 30% last challenge, I like the idea of gaining a %!I don't think I could manage more than 5% the numbers start to get very high. Here is the white board I use to track my progress. Squat + 12lb (going to have to make that 12.5)Bench + 8.5 (10)Rows + 7 (7.5)Press + 5.75 (7.5)DL + 13.5 (15) Also for good measure I will be upping my daily step goal by 5% ---> 10500 I feel these are realistic. Goal 3 - 5 sessions of cardio (yuck)My Stamina is my lowest stat for a reason....I got a heart rate monitor, and as a step in the right direction I want to complete 5 sessions of cardio where I keep my heart rate in my target zone for > 20 mins. Life Goal - Lean video editingI have some cool hobbies, and I own a gopro, and all my videos looks like crap...I would like to learn some of the basics of video editing, cutting scenes together, music, etc.Any pointers would be a great help here guys.I have yet to even googled the subject. Its just something I have always wished I knew, so lets go learn it! or as much as possible in 5 weeks. I will post a video at the end, expect it to have guns, jeeps, and dogs in it. You know all the cool stuff. I wrote this whole thing in 2-4 min chunks, in between crane lifts so hopefully it is somewhat coherent. Thanks also to Tink for reminding me to get my challenge posted! 2 Quote Kyliewyotie Level 15 Coyote TinkererSTR 27 DEX 18 STA 15 CON 14 WIS 14 CHA 12Current Challenge Link to comment
SunlitSapling
There you are!! I was getting worried you weren't going to have a challenge this time.Great goals and good luck surviving those 16-hour days. At least being sent on jobs like that means your company thinks you're useful. Now if only something like a raise came with that...Wishing you the best! 1 Quote Level 4 Assassin Hufflepuff HouseSunlit Embraces Earth and Sea - Current Challenge Link to comment

Starting from square one. So when you learn all the things, send them my way. Don't know if you want to spend the money, but I've heard Lynda.com is a great way to find trainings on all things video (among many other things). Luckily, my work will pay for a subscription. Luckily I am very well compensated, I'm just not used to having 4 months of craziness almost in a row. All good thou, I do get a perverse type of pleasure from completing some pretty amazing projects. lots of heights, and heavy lifts on this job. Also no elevator so I climbed a total of 63 flights of stairs, and walked 26k steps, yesterday. At least its not 115 degrees like back home "Put yo twerk in" Bahaha. Nice goals! I plan to start with some video tutorials when I get home. I am sure I will get overwhelmed if I'm careful. tinkerer
Looks good, Sir! Glad you'll be around for another one of these. Your encouragement has been great to have in the past. Also, to be fair on the increase I didn't increase the weight on any of the percentage goals. Just reps. Your 5% goal sounds like a good one, achievable but a challenge nonetheless. What target heart rate are you shooting for with the cardio? (Not the actual BPM but what body systemare you trying to train?) 1 Quote tinkererLevel 14 Elven Blacksmith current challenge - yearlong quest 14 13 12 11 10 9.1 9.0 8 7 6 5 4,2 4.1 4.0 3 2 1 Link to comment

When I tested out my heart rate monitor, the "smart" program had me aiming for like 140 ish I think. Not sure if that is what you meant. When I tested out my heart rate monitor, the "smart" program had me aiming for like 140 ish I think. Not sure if that is what you meant.Meh, I barely know what I'm talking about. The book I got on training for alpine climbs (although this part is mostly on endurance/general training) breaks HRs into 6 zones:Recovery - Less that 55% of max HR - Used to speed recovery from other exercise like strength trainingZone 1 - 55% to 75% of max HR - Used to develop base aerobic fitnessZone 2 - 75% to 80% - Not very helpfulZone 3 - 80% to 90% - "fun and hard" - used to compliment zone 1 work to improve aerobic pathwaysZone 4 - 90% to 95% - anaerobic and used for interval training sometimes, can be detrimental to aerobic fitnessZone 5 - 95% + of max HR - can be used to add power (i.e. strength training)The book also says to check you max HR you should run uphill for 2 mins, sprinting the last 20 seconds. I haven't been able to try that due to the leg but it sounds fun (and "sciencey" to be using a HR monitor). 1 Quote tinkererLevel 14 Elven Blacksmith current challenge - yearlong quest 14 13 12 11 10 9.1 9.0 8 7 6 5 4,2 4.1 4.0 3 2 1 Link to comment
Kyliewyotie
Well based on that I would think zone 1 is what I am looking for. But I would like to test my max heart rate. They threw a football, danced, did cartwheels, and climbed on top of the swingset.
