This is Maryna Shkermankova. She's around ... (5'3, 150#) and is the current Olympic bronze medalist in her weight class in olympic lifting. She snatches 258# and clean and jerks 315#.

Princess Leia in the Star Wars books- So much Jedi ^_^ Her daughter Jaina is pretty awesome as well. And Mara Jade Skywalker. And Aayla Secura from the prequel movies.

Polgara the Sorceress from David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean series. One of the most feared women in her entire world.

River Song is amazing and terrifying.

For real people? I'd say my great grandmother first of all. She and her sister rode Harleys from Virginia to Florida at over 60 years old and a few months before she died in her 80's her house was broken into and when she was let into the hospital, one of her injuries was bruised knuckles from punching the intruders.

Also pretty much every girl I've ever seen compete in American Ninja Warrior. Whether they won or not, getting there was a huge achievement!

I definitely agree about Toph and any woman from Firefly, and Buffy for sure. I have much love for Hermione Granger and her actress Emma Watson. From Doctor Who, I really appreciated Donna and Rose. But when it comes to badassery, my childhood heroine was definitely Xena Warrior Princess. Her battle cry alone was badass enough!!

And as evil, manipulative and kinda gross as she is- I thought Cersei in GoT has her badass moments.

Lady Stoneheart, the Sandsnakes and Arya as well.

I know someone said any woman from Firefly, but I'd like to specifically mention Kaylee since she and I share a profession, but she is much more badass than I.

Yes yes yes to all of these.

I'm especially seconding Zoe, Xena, and Buffy. To this list, I'm also adding Gabrielle (from Xena), because she grew up into a total badass.

I also have to add... MULAN. Not just the Disney character, but the real historical figure/figure of legend. According to the legends, Hua Mulan was a natural fighter, and was skilled with martial arts and weaponry. When the army came 'round recruiting men to fight in the war, Mulan enlisted in her father's (and younger brother's) place. (Some variations of the story have her as fighting her father for the right to enlist.) She goes to battle with her father's blessing and serves for twelve whole years without being discovered. She serves in the army and once the war is done, is presented to the Emperor. She is revealed as a woman and declines an offer to be a general, choosing instead to go home to her family. Whether she was real or not, such a badass.

Legend found here.

Most of mine have been said, so I'll remention them:

River Tam (Firefly)
Gabrielle (Xena)
Lisbeth Salander (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc.)

Lagertha (Vikings)
Arya Stark (Game of Thrones; I named my first daughter after her)
Katniss (The Hunger Games)
Tris (Divergent)
Faith (Buffy)

I really love literary female badasses because I feel I can kind of live through them, you know?

If anyone specifically can recommend characters like Tris (character starts off average, learns to be an awesome fighter etc.) I would love recommendations - I'm not sure who in this thread is a book character!

Also,

Sun (Sense8)

Serena Williams (real life)

Captain Janeway (Star Trek: Voyager)

Emma Swan (Once Upon a Time)

Regina Mills (Once Upon a Time)

There are more, of course, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind right now.

My favorite non-fictional badass is Pudgy Stockton. She influenced muscle beach becoming what it is so much, and didn't get into fitness and acrobatics until she was an adult and owned that shit.

Fictional, She-Hulk is my all time favorite. I have a Shulkie tattoo planned that will cover half my back. She is a lawyer, model and a superhero. Brains brawn and beauty, she's got it all.

A few that are my particular role models that haven't been mentioned yet:

Fictional:

Mara Jade (Star Wars Legends EU)

Lyra Belacqua (His Dark Materials book trilogy; badass even though she's still young)

Wonder Woman (especially since new 52)

Gwen DeLancy (Riyra Revelations/Riyra Chronicles)

The Boss (MGS 3: Snake Eater)

Yang Xiao Long (RWBY; care-free, freakin' strong AND punches stuff)

Real life:

Steph Gaudreau (Stupid Easy Paleo)

Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilm)

Nichelle Nichols (original Uhura)

Valentina Tereshkova (first woman in space)

Summer Innanen (women's body image coach)

Will add more as I remember them...
