Honeybadger's 6 Week Challenge

Hey Honeybadger here,

After a few years off I am back and ready to start a new challenge. I am pretty low tech and struggle with the forum but need some support and extra accountability.

My overall goal is to rekindle my relationship with running.

Running Goals

1. Run a total of 40 miles in the next 6 weeks. I plan on accomplishing this by running at least 6 miles/week for weeks 1+ 2, and at least 7miles/week for weeks 3-6.

2. Run at least twice a week

3. Log each run tracking time and distance

4. Register for GOTR 5k (race day after the end of challenge)

Life Side Quest

1. Sign up for level II dog training

I may have started late but I just completed my milage goal for week one!!! Here is how it breaks down:

M- Off

T- 2 mile run 22 minutes (20 minutes Elliptical warm-up)

W- Off

Th- 1 mile run 10:47 (after 52 min Spin class)

F- Off

Sat- 3mile run 33:33

Sun- Off or maybe light cross training

I probably should have mentioned in my introduction that I run slowly over short distances. My pace has pretty much been the same for the past 17 years...but I'm totally ok with that.

I would love to hear from other runners (thanks Theophilus for the support!)

If your running 3 miles in 32 minutes, your gonna rock that 5k !

I'm training for a 10k in 8 days, and I run no where near that fast. You can do it!

Thanks for your support!! Good luck with your 10k, I've never run one. I actually never run more then 4 miles I get too bored.

Week 3 already! I just completed my milage goal. I thought that I finished on Wednesday for a minute until I remembered that I added 1 mile for weeks 3-6...ugh. I will plan better for next week. I also ended up taking last Saturday off and riding the stationary bike for an hour on Sunday making for very sore legs and a less than enjoyable run. I'll take tomorrow off.

Monday- 3 mile run 32.01 (15 minute warm up elliptical)

Tuesday- Off

Wednesday- 3 mile run 31.56 (15 minute warm up elliptical)

Thursday- 50 minute Spin

Friday- Off

Saturday- 45 minute stationary bike (easy ride) 1 mile run 10.42

Mini quest 2 complete, #3 is a work in progress

Week 4 is almost done. I wanted to check in to see how it was going.

Thanks for checking in! I am just getting around to posting this weeks progress. So far things are going pretty well. I have been meeting my weekly goals, so I am on track to hit the 40 mile goal by the end of the challenge. I still have to register for the 5k and call the dog trainer. Running felt much more comfortable this week!! Maybe the spark is back...

Monday- Spin + 1 mile run 10.28

Tuesday- Off

Wednesday- Run 3 miles 32.28

Thursday- Spin

Friday- Off

Saturday- Run 3 miles 32.26

I am slacking on the mini quests

Week 5- the magic is back! I noticed a big shift this week in my running. It felt more comfortable and less like I wanted to die with each mile...I dare say I actually enjoyed it. I also ran 4 miles for the first time in years. I am pretty much done with work for the summer and looking forward to incorporating some nutrition and bodyweight exercises into my routine. Here is what this week looked like...

Monday- run 2 miles 21.04 (15 min warm up elliptical)

Tuesday- off

Wednesday- 4 miles 43.01

Thursday- off

Friday- Spin 2 hours (fundraiser)

Saturday- off

Sunday- Run 2 miles 21.45

I missed the mini challenge for this week. Couldn't find it in the thread, so I obviously did not do it.

I did it!!! I hit my mileage goal today (+1 mile). I also feel like I achieved my overall goal of rekindling my relationship with running. I have not registered for the 5k yet due to finances. My canine companion needed her yearly vaccines which set me back more than I expected. If I don't run the actual race, I will at least run the 5k distance that day. I am still waiting for a new set of dog classes to be scheduled. I might need to explore other options.

Week 6

Monday- Spin

Tuesday- Off

Wednesday- 3 mile run 32.06

Thursday- 1 mile run 10.36 then Spin

Friday- Off

Saturday- 3 mile run 32.45

Sunday- off (probably)

I am really much more proud of reaching my goals than I was expecting. I am also really looking forward to the next 6 week challenge!! Like I said last week, I am interested in incorporating body weight exercises and nutrition into my new routine.

I did not run the official 5k in an effort to save some money but I just ran 3.1 miles as I said I would. I ran it in 33 min, a very comfortable pace. Looking forward to the next challenge. Already thinking about my goals!!!
