petefeet's Eight Adventure

Recommended Posts

Hello kids and welcome to my eight challenge!

A little about me... I'm 41, live in Nova Scotia (east coast), Canada, unattached,no kids (one cat), have WAY too many books and proud of it.

I'm a boiler and refrigeration operator by trade, though my dream is to have a "bricks & mortar" used bookstore. I currently, have a part-time one that I run out of my basement in my spare time and my whole inventory is science fiction & fantasy (my passion). Should be a link to my stores facebook page in my signature.

I'm also a Freemason and quite active in my lodge, which has helped offset my normal "hermit" habits and given me a new confidence in myself and abilities.

As well I'm an avid "Clash of Clans"  & "Rival Kingdoms" player and the Nerd Fitness clans is always looking for new members no matter your level.

 Main Quest:

In August 2013 I weighted 267 lbs and my doctor said I had to shut up about my sore knees or die (great guy, bedside manner of a doorknob).

So, I started trying to get healthy and since I'm a type "A" person I use www.loseit.com as my food log and calorie counter. I hit my goal weight of 180 lbs but lost steam/motivation last challenge and am back up to 185 lbs

So my main quest is to continue my healthy lifestyle and improve my fitness level and get back down to 180 lbs

 To do that...

Side Quests:

 1. Keep my daily food log and weigh-ins with my loseit.com account.

 2. Do at least 3 Cardio workouts a week (min 20 minutes), even if its just walking around my sub-division or playing on recumbent bike.

 3. Do the following BBWW during the week.

                                             80 Push-ups
                                           100 Squats
100 Leg Lunges (combined total of both legs)
150 Dumbbell Rows (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight)
5 Planks (as long as I can hold it, usually 30 - 40 seconds)
                                          150 Jumping Jacks
80 Bicep Curls (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight)

New this challenge              40 triceps drips

Life Quest:

Life Quest:  My MAJOR life quest is to finish my basement and turn it into rec room/bookstore, though I'm going to add some minor life quests for this challenge since I've got a lot going on this summer and I'm working 5 days a week until September and can't do "home projects" at work during summer hours.

mini life quest #1 Spend 1 hour a week working on Family History (Genealogy). This is a passion of mine, but always seems to get pushed back until I have more "free time".

mini life quest #2 Spend 1 hour a week doing bookstore jobs. This could be updating ads, sorting books, doing quotes etc...

mini life quest #3 Spend 1 hour a week doing Lodge projects. This could be memory work, sorting refundables for our "Bottles for Bursaries" program, draft a promotional booklet, help get ready for the summers parades etc...

mini life quest #4 Spend 1 hour a week writing. This could be drafting a new story, sorting the 8 million post-it note ideas I have, "fixing" a current story so I can submit it etc...

To help keep me sane (ish), I also like to write. So I will be continuing the adventure of petefeet as he explores the world around him. I try and take parts from my real life and weave them into a story.

 So far.... (Check 1st,  2nd, 3rd, 4th , 5th, 6th and 7th Adventure's for written story)

Petefeet is a halfling who was kidnapped by raider's as a small child and taken to a large human city and sold as a slave to the people running the cities gladiator arena. For much of his young life he was used as a servant, used to fetch and carry for the Masters and the gladiators.

After many years of this, petefeet starts to realize that he wants more out of life and starts to secretly steal better food meant for the Master's and starts trying to copy the exercises done by the gladiators.

Just when the Master's start to realize that something is changing with their normally meek and cowardly Halfling slave, an outside (Maybe the "Lady in Flames"?) force intervenes. How and when it happens is still a blur to petefeet, but one day he finds himself waking up in the middle of a crater out in the middle of the wilderness wearing nothing but his slave robes, which are now tattered and singed.

Found by a young human girl named Jan and her Grandfather, petefeet had his burned skin tended, feed and dressed in old work clothes. In an effort to repay them for their kindness, petefeet offered to rid them of an giant rat that had taken up residence in their work hut. With nothing to protect his hands, our little Halfling wrapped the burned and tattered remains of his slave robes around his hands (like boxing mitts) and went into battle. It was during the battle with the giant rat that petefeet realized that the old robes held some magic (or was the focus for an innate ability or a gift from "Lady in Flames"?), for when he became scared, tiny sparks formed on the old robes covering his hands and when he punched the giant rat burns were also left upon the beast though petefeet received no damage. The more is was able to control his fear, the better he was able to hurt the beast.

Since that day, petefeet has wandered the land, helping out where he came, getting into the odd bit of trouble and making new friends. He isn't quite sure where he is going, though is sure he will know it when he finds it.

petefeet spent the winter months in an abandoned manor house leaving the larger world for another day, but now that spring is here, he's doing a little exploring and has discovered the nearby village of Apple Valley.

As usual a well thought out challenge. I really like how you do your Body Weight exercises as a number for the week to complete. I may steal this for my,challenge. It would give me a little more flexibility to get them done but not have to have rigid workout times/days.

I am going to start my challenge this week too. I can't afford to take two weeks rest!

Petefeet is awaken by the sound of driving wind and rain and a cat which appears to be afraid of said noise.

About to scold Mickey for acting like a little kitten, petefeet stops in mid-breath as a strong gust of wind hits the halflings lean-too quite hard causing some of his bark shingle roof to shift allowing rain to come in. Deciding that the cat just might be within his rights to be scared, petefeet gathers him up into his arms and the two of them huddle in the most secure corner of the dwelling.

Thankfully, the storm is as brief as it's fierce and the halfling and the cat suffer nothing worse that some wet feet and a bad case of nerves. Once it's safe to go outside, petefeet checks out his little part of the abandoned manor house. Thankfully the damage is slight, and the halfling is able to repair his roof, thought it might need more pieces of bark to replace those which broke.

With no time like the present, petefeet decides to source out more sheets of bark for this repair and any other ones that might be coming his way. Following his familiar paths through the forest, the halfling is paying little mind to his surrounds and lets his attention drift, only to be jerked back into the present by the sound of dogs barking.

As carefully as possible, petefeet investigates the source of the noise only to find a group of three soldiers and a group of young dogs trudging through the woods. Taking care not to berate his presence, the halfling waits until the group passes, headed away from the abandoned manor house, before he hurries back home.

With thoughts of soldiers in the woods near him, and what might have brought them to this part of the land, petefeet lays n bed for hours before falling asleep.

     petefeet dreams....

Petefeet finds himself in the same part of the forest as that where he found the soldiers and dogs in the waking world and is uncertain what he should do, in the end he decides to head in the direction the soldiers were traveling and hopes it might offer some clues for when he wakes.

Surprised and a bit unsettled, petefeet finds himself coming into a small glade in which stands the "Lady in Flames". Whether his own mind has created this or if the soldiers and the "Lady in Flames" are connected in some way, is unclear, all petefeet knows is that he's happy to see her and slowly approaches her.

Getting as close as he dares, petefeet squats down and allows himself the simple enjoyment of just being near her.

Hey kids,

Cold, wet, rainy morning at work today, though turned out nice this afternoon. Yesterday the Mounties (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) were at my work and were training a new batch of drug dogs (Soldiers and Dogs). It must be quite a sight to see these young dogs run through the orchards looking for the hidden drug test samples, wish we were allowed to watch, though I understand why not.

Went for walk when I got home around the subdivision, trying to get them in early since the rest of the week will be busy.

Working on the bulkhead bark roof) in the basement after work, though I screwed up and will have to fix a couple pieces. Not a job to do when tired.

Visited "LiF" at her work as per normal on Tuesday. I left it a bit late and she could only spare a couple minutes with me since she was trying to finish cleaning up before she had to lock up. She was fighting a migraine (probably weather related) and I'm worn right out, so our conversation wasn't the most enlightened, but I felt so good just spending a little time with her with her mask lowered.

Main Quest: Weighted in at 184 lbs this morning.

Side Quests:

1. Food log and weigh-in done.

2. 2 of 3 Cardio done. Went for walk after work again..

3. Body Weight exercises:

                                               20 of 80 Push-ups
                                               30 of 100 Squats
20 of 100 Leg Lunges (combined total of both legs)

                                               50 of 150 Jumping Jacks
30 of 80 Bicep Curls (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight)

New this challenge                  10 of 40 triceps drips

Life Quest:

Major: Spent an hour after work working on the bulkhead, think I have to take down the drywall in one spot, was tired and didn't notice that I have seams lining up which will crack. (Fudge nuckers!!!)

     Minor #1 (Genealogy) 0 of 60 minutes.

Still concerned about seeing the soldiers in the forest, petefeet decides to stick near to his home within the abandoned ruins of the manor house.

With the sun bright and warm the halfling spends the day finishing the roof of his lean-too. Securing the last of the sheets of bark petefeet stands back and looks upon his efforts. While by no means pretty, never the less the halfling feels a certain sense of pride at his effort and feels confident that no matter the weather he and Mickey will stay dry within.

With the roof seen too, now it's time to do something about the walls. Two of them are original to the manor house and will only need some attention, though the other one is constructed of stone blocks the halfling stacked himself last fall and they are by no means weather tight. In the past the halfling has put his energy into trying to seal them from the inside, but now realizes that his efforts should begin on the outside.

So for the rest of the day petefeet trudges back and forth from the nearby woods with armloads of moss and used it to fill the many holes between the stone blocks.

At one point in the day, petefeet walks to the goldfish pond and relaxes watching the goldfish zip around the estates pond, their radiant gold of their flashing scales reminds the halfling of the "Lady in Flames", this thought warms the halflings heart and makes the rest of the day a happy one.

Hey kids,

Took the day of work (have a ton of vacation time to use) and spent it in the basement. Finished installing the drywall and fixed a couple mistakes etc... Did a big clean-up and took scraps of the drywall to the dump.

On the way home I stopped in at "LiF's" work for a minute and wished her a Happy Apple Blossom (Big deal around here). She told me to have fun marching in the parade tomorrow and suggested I wear a sombrero for my bald head! I didn't think it would go with my dark suit <g>. I also saw that she was wear a t-shirt that I had given her (When I check the local thrift shop for "nerdy/geeky" t-shirts for me I also keep an eye out for her). I know it doesn't really mean anything, but it pleased me anyways.

Was about to start trying my hand at mudding, but it was close to supper and I was worn out. It will have to wait til next week probably.

Main Quest: Weighted in at 186 lbs this morning. Had ice cream for lunch yesterday and pizza for supper, allowed myself to fall into the Apple Blossom Festival trap (almost as big as Christmas around here).

Side Quests:

1. Food log and weigh-in done.

2. 4 of 3 Cardio done. DONE

3. Body Weight exercises:

                                               55 of 80 Push-ups

80 of 80 Bicep Curls (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight) DONE

New this challenge                  30 of 40 triceps drips

Life Quest:

Major:  Finished installing drywall, cleaned up mess in room and took scraps of drywall to dump. Also got tape in seams, but wanted to be fresh before I started mudding.

Since his spirits have been high recently, petefeet decides to halfling-up and introduce himself to the people and village of Apple Valley.

Suddenly conscious of his appearance, petefeet does the best he can to clean himself up and make his ragged robes and rabbit-skin cloak look as presentable as possible.

The walk through the woods to the village suddenly seems too short as petefeet drags his feet through the undergrowth and before long finds himself at the edge of the village.

He can only stare in amazement at the scene around him, there appears to be some kind of festival going on. The villagers are dressed in their finest, the houses are decorated with fresh apple blossoms from the trees lining the valley and everyone appears to be heading towards the center of the village.

Before he knows it, petefeet finds himself tagging along with people he does know, too caught up in the sea of friendly faces and happiness to worry about anything. Several villagers seek the halfling out and introduce themselves, saying that Harold the were-bear Ranger let them know the halfling was in the area and to make him welcome. Comforted by this, petefeet allowed himself to be pulled along and passed in a line of marchers each carrying a festive flag, and before he knows it, the villagers are having a parade!

They circle the village several times, some people drop off to watch while others jump it to keep it going, with everyone laughing and having a good time. When the parade finally ends, several people thrust mugs of cider into the halflings hands and before he knows it an old woman is nagging him about the evils of drink!

Perhaps the old woman was on to something, because it isn't too long after that, that buckets of cold water start flying and everyone is soaked, laughing and still enjoying themselves.

Nearing sunset, the halfling bids the villagers a goodbye, with promises to visit again soon, before heading back to his lean-too at the abandoned manor house hoping his clothes will dry along the way.

Hey kids,

Lets see...

Saturday was the Apple Blossom parade and the Freemason group was as organized as I expected with everyone KNOWING how it should be do, but leaving it up to somebody else to do it. <g>. All told, there was a poor turn-out from my fraternity with many Brothers watching the parade with their families instead of marching (which I can kind of understand).

On the walk back to my work (which happens to be where all the marchers and floats converge at the start of parade) I stopped at a house party I used to go too every year until I got a "life-time" ban for.... stuff <g>. All was Lager under the bridge as I was greeted like a hero, feed too many beer, had a bucket of water dumped over my head (with still in my suit)!

I dressed in my dry clothes at my work, chatted with some of the brothers about how to improve next year, sobered up (it was only two light beer) and went to my folks for supper.

Had a family supper (Apple Blossom as big as Christmas here), had sister-in-law lecture me about drinking and driving (it was 2 light beer 3 hours ago woman! You're not my mother!) and spent the rest of the evening chilling at my place.

Main Quest: Weighted in at 186 lbs again this morning. Apple Blossom Festival is over, back on the straight and narrow.

Side Quests:

1. Food log and weigh-in done.

2. 1 of 3 Cardio done. (Recumbent bike after work, too wet and cold to go for a walk)

3. Body Weight exercises:

Nice job on the mud and tape. You have really come a long way on the basement! You should be proud.

Still a long way to go, second coat on walls needed, 1st and 2nd on ceiling to do, no corner bead done yet...

Did get some paint samples today though, going to ask "LiF" what her thoughts are tomorrow night when I visit her.

After paint is electrical hook-up and floor laid, THEN I can take the 100+ boxes of books out of the workshop into the room so I can start building bookcases for the books!

Oh yeah, I need to install two bi-fold doors as well, turn a bookcase into a sliding (hidden) door to give access to water pump etc.. under basement stairs.

Good grief!
