Wildross - back to competing

Recommended Posts

Well, unless something else comes up, I'm going to compete in July...

Editing to add....

For those new to the wildross-verse...I had prostate cancer surgery in late February of this year.  So I'm on a comeback trail.

I need to compete in a USAPL sanctioned meet so I can represent team NF at the nationals in October.  Since I'm over 40...I don't have to meet a total.  I just have to put up a total in a meet.

Nevertheless, the week before my surgery I did 430/340/410.  I want to do at least that in July.  Plus I need to drop some weight.  I'm going to be in the super heavy weights anyway, but I want to be closer to the bottom than I am right now.

My work schedule the next 2 months is rather insane already....so expect lots of lifting from odd places.

Editing again...

Weekly goal of 110,000# moved.

I do not like early morning flights.  But I'm getting better at them.  6:30AM Raleigh to Fort Lauderdale.  Nicely empty so not only did I get the emergency row (extra leg room) but there's noone beside me so I can use the middle tray for holding stuff and don't have to worry about elbowing anybody..

I was supposed to be in Raleigh for 4 days of training.  But one of my sales reps got a meeting with a customer we've been chasing for 2 years.  Could be a major client for us, so off to Fort Lauderdale for the day.  I worked ahead for the class last night and will catch up the rest tomorrow morning.

Following.  Can't wait to hear how the competition goes for you.  I think the Central Florida Open is going to be my target competition as well, either for next year or the year after.

Make it this year...

Wish I could, but Its going to take me some time to sell Mrs. Harbard on the whole idea. Plus, I'd just embarras myself right now. I think by next year I'll feel good enough about my progress to actually wear a singlet in public.

when I last competed, one of my fellow competitors was an 80+ year old blind man who could barely hear.  He had a seeing eye dog.  He wanted to bench press (he had been practicing).  So a group of us worked with the judges to get it setup so one of us could tap him for the commands, I held the leash on his dog and others lead him by the hand.

Believe me, you will only be embarrassed in your own mind, and that will be true no matter what your total is or isn't...

The wife issue...well, can't help you much there.

That's one of the most awesome stories ever. Thank you for sharing.

Wednesday night in Raleigh after I got back from Miami.  Kind of late, so just some warmup kind of stuff.

Total:  11,050

Squat 10x45,135,5x225,3x3x315
Cable push down 10x50,60,70,2x10x80

Thursday night

Total: 27,575

Pushups 2x25
Squat 10x45,135,225,3x315,365,2x3x385
Bench press 20x45,10x135,225,275,2x5x315

I was feeling great on the bench, then on the 3rd rep of the second set of 315 it dawned on me that I didn't have a spotter or safeties.  Kind of freaked me out, so I decided to call it a night.  385 squat was solid too.

Someone has to be.  Otherwise civilization as we know it would crumble into anarchy.

Yes indeed.  And wiki's in particular develop severe cases of bit rot..

With the travel back from Raleigh to Orlando, I didn't make it back to the gym til Saturday night/Sunday morning.  Late night lifting at it's finest...well, maybe not that..

Saturday 5/30/2015

Total:  11,680

Row 6:04 min 1365 meters

Front Squat 10x45,135,5x225,3x3x275

Overhead press 10x45,135,5x185,3x3x195

Lytpw 5,10,15

Then Monday morning, 6/1/2015 before my TSA-pre enrollment interview.

Total: 19,800

Row 10 min 2267 meters  ramping up the cardio time.

Bench press 20x45,10x135,225,5x275,295,3x5x315,1x315  <= plenty more there, just still being safe.

Squat 10x45,135,5x225,3x315,2x365,3x2x385  <= put 395 on the bar, then thought better of it.  Ramp up, don't jump up.
