A MAN, A PLAN, A CANAL, PANAMA!

 

I'm Raptron. I do gymnastics and I lift stuff, so I talk about both in my threads. I'm going THEMELESS this time around. My apologies. :)

 

Goal 1. Welcome to the Jungle (It's a Bouncy House)

*Go for a run 8 times between NOW (May 27) and June 20 

*After June 20, add jump work 2x per week into workout program 

 

My Spartan Super is June 20. I should probably run a few times between then and now. I know I shouldn't technically have goals that start before the challenge starts, but hey, challenges don't always line up with our lives. :) Once I've gotten the running out of the way, I still want to keep some kind of cardio and explosive/jumping work should have the most direct application to my life and interests so that's what I'm gonna do. 

 

Goal 2. Press Up and Up

*Press handstand practice 3x per week

 

You want it, go get it, you got it. Practice counts for practice and it is a "I know it when I see it" definition. Ideally, I'd be doing this at gymnastics when I go to practice and if I don't hit three practices (which is going to become more likely now that summer is just about here), I'll set aside time to work on this at home against a wall, doing straddle sits, straddle leg lifts, and sock-footed feet drags.

 

Goal 3. Get Glute Gains

*1 glute-focused accessory as part of every lifting workout

 

That booty though. I think my glutes are a bit weak, so I'm gonna put some extra work into them.

 

Goal 4. Soup's On

*Create a meal plan for each day that will account for everything I will eat that day 

*Post meals here for accountability

*3 off-plan allowances per week that must replace something on the plan, not be in addition to the plan

 

This is my first time trying a really formalized meal plan system. I'll likely be aiming for about 1400 calories per day, weighted pretty evenly for protein and carbs and a bit lower in fat because I tend to be happier and more energetic when I keep my carbs up. I may experiment with different rest day macros, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Making the plan and sticking to it is the goal here, first and foremost.

Gah, glutes! My own glutes are pretty big due to the fact that I'm too cheap to use public transport and use my bike to go everywhere. I'd probably be quite good at twerking if I a) had no self respect and b ) actually put the time in to learn!

 

And press handstands = awesome. Good luck on your challenge! Expecting some super impressive things as usual. ^^

Yes, I've much to report from the Warrior Headquarters, but they were starting to look at me a bit shifty-eyed when I was leaping and cartwheeling down the hallway. I supposed that kind of behavior may have been unbecoming for their stoic offices.

I'm on board for sure :) I guess I missed the part where you became a wondering warrior for a bit. It was your flexibility and ninja like grace that had them nervous, so welcome back to the dark..err semi-gray side :P

Again, why do you do this to yourself?  Too much running.  Not enough obstacles between the running parts to help fend off the boredom from running.  

 

Good luck with that press handstand!  It's such an awesome skill!  :)

Maybe every time I come across a bench or something, I have to jump and roll on it and yell "PARKOUR! PARKOUR!" ;)

 

So, last Thursday, I tweaked or pulled something on my left lower back/upper ass when I was doing a switch leap at gymnastics practice. It twanged pretty fiercely for a bit after I did it, but I was mostly able to continue with practice as usual other than certain skills that made me go "beghugk." Saturday morning, it was killing me during squats but I figured that was just because it was 1) still pretty fresh and 2) maybe being tired and hungover made me favor one side more than the other. I promptly forgot about it when I got home from the gym and started cooking up a frenzy for our cookout (and drinking many beers...)

 

It's barely bothered me since then, so I figured I would be okay to do a workout on Wednesday. Last night, the workout was deadlifts and it was noooooot a pleasant feeling. I got through the lifts OK, but when I was done, the ass-back pain made it hard to actually unload my bar. Bending and twisting are particularly painful. I expected it to simmer down again after my workout, but it has not yet. I've got an idea of a couple of things it could be, but I am obviously not sure as I'm not a doctor. The fact that it happened specifically during a skill makes me think it is likely from a muscle pinching a nerve or a ligament over-stretch. I am going to give it more time to heal and will probably make an appointment to get it looked at if it doesn't resolve. 

 

I AM ANNOYED BY THIS TURN OF EVENTS.

Don't forget to make an epic montage video with a really dramatic soundtrack.

 

Sorry about your ass. Hope it will heal quickly, but please take it easy as it doesn't sound too good at all.

Ah no :( kinda demotivational already when you get an injury pre-challenge!

 

Still, I think that with some rest you'll soon be okay. Following along for whatever comes over the next few weeks :)

Sorry about that ass-back pain, and I hope a little rest is all you need to be back in full form.  Skipping class is definitely wiser than pushing things, making the injury worse, and then being sidelined for even longer (not that I'm speaking from experience... :nevreness: ).  Is there any good way to stretch it, foam roll, heat, ice, massage, or whatever you need, so you can at least feel like you're doing something to heal yourself a bit faster?

Aw, sorry about your bum bum (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?).

 

Also, when planning daily meals, I've always found that planning in the evening (with a calendar) for the next day always worked out best for me.  I'm not a morning person, so if I don't do that, it really means I don't plan.
