The last few challenges have gotten away from my main quest.

Well, not exactly, but they were more about getting back on track than actually travelling back in time.  1999 alluded me just before the holidays.  Then I got stuck in some time loop that kept circling from 1999 to 1997 and back again.  I have finally escaped the time loop and am leaving 1997 in the past….wait, the future.  Now I’m confused.

For this challenge my destination is Onederland.  According to the numbers, I should just get under 200 by the end of the challenge.  And that makes me excited.  But not too excited – that would jinx it.  I'll mostly be using 7 day averages for tracking and grading.  I think this will work well since 1 hiccup won't have a huge impact and if I do get off track, it's easier to see the way back.

The Average Goals

 

Goal 1 – Sustenance because you can’t outrun your fork

I’ll be logging food on MFP again.  I’m just not ready to not log food.  But to keep things me from getting crazy, I’ll be tracking using a 7 day average.  It works pretty well to have a calorie limit of 1410 on most days and then a high calorie day.  So this comes out to a daily average of 1465.  Protein daily average should be at least 110 grams and carbs should be less than 110 grams. 

 

And, inspired by fellow rebels, you know who you are, I’ll be tracking on this handy dandy spreadsheet using a point system.  The 7 day averages are tracked here and will calculate a deviation from the goal.  This should always stay above zero.

 

Grading: 0+ = A; -1to -20 = B; -21 to -40 = C 

+3 CON, +1 WIS

 

Goal 2 – Momentum to complete the journey

I made it through week 6 of Zombies 5k training.  I took a break from running during the off weeks due to some hip pain.  Hopefully I can jump back in on week 7 and complete the training.  Then it’s off the Zombies Run.  3 times a week.  This will be tracked on the spreadsheet.  I would like to get the 7 day average below a 45 minute 5K.  The 7 day average deviation from goal should approach zero and ultimately be above zero!

 

+3 STA, +1 DEX

 

Goal 3 – Strength to beat the baddies

Last challenge I started taking some group fitness classes.  I really like them.  I tend to perform better than on my own, especially in a strength/cardio mix.  However, my shoulder has been holding me back.  I finally went in to have it checked out.  Turns out it was an impingement and the strength disparity between my left and right was much more than I thought. 

 

I need to devote some time to do my physical therapy exercises and focus on some upper body strength.  I would really like to be able to do a proper push up, on the floor, with good form. 

 

The plan is to hit 1 group fitness class per week and work on upper body strength once per week.  I’m putting together a couple of routines, one TRX, one dumbbells, and another BW, so that depending on where I can get my workout in and what equipment is available, I am already set to go.  NEW PLAN - Focus on PT exercises.  Other upper body workouts are limited to 1 ROM and 1 muscle group so that sources of aggravation can be easily identified.  Physical therapist did approve bicep/tricep work.   PT exercises at least 4/week

Life Goal – Tardis cleaning routine

This might be a bit much but I’d like to try the flylady cleaning routines and build some habits over the summer when there is more free time.  I’ll work on the 30 day baby steps.  

 

+2 CHA

 

Maintain course

 

Just so I stay focused on habits previously built I will also be tracking the following goals.

Sleep – the 7 days average is 7.25 hours a night and preferably with some quick morning fitness like a walk or a run with the dog or some mobility.

Hydration – 7 day average is 64 ounces

Mobility – just do it.

Despite the attack of the munchies and having company, I managed a better score than last week so I'm calling that a win.  Maybe not exactly A material but I'm giving me an A- to show improvement from last week.

Calories were definitely out of hand this week - I could use the 4th of July holiday as an excuse but it wasn't even that. Interestingly, carbs were better than week 2 and protein better.  So I may have went over on calories, my choices weren't all bad.

average carbs - 194

average protein - 120

Horrendous.  That is all.

I only got 2 runs in this week.  I should have done the 3rd.  It came down to trying to manage timing with the little nieces and nephews.  I could have and probably should have made it a priority and I didn't.  The average run time was longer because of the lead leg.  That couldn't be helped.  

 

Week 4: A+

I've officially graduated from the 5K training app to the actual Zombies Run app.  

4 runs this week.  Average 5K time 47.5 minutes.   almost 1 minute improvement. 

 

Week 5: A+

3 runs this week.  Average 5K time 45.5 minutes.  2 minute improvement

 

Week 5: A

3 runs this week.  Average 5K time 47.8 minutes.  Still improved from week 1 but slower than last week.

boxing Strike class and a DB upper body workout at home over the weekend happened.

 

Week 2: A

This goal was changed mid-week.  1 upper body TRX workout happened and then 1 PT session happened.

 

Week 3: F

Only 1 PT happened all week.  Fail.

 

Week 4: A-

I failed to keep track of these workouts.  I think I missed only 1 but I think they was a genuine reason for it. 

 

Week 5: B

Only 2 PTs happened.

 

Week 6: C

I don't even remember.  I think 1 happened.

I didn't necessarily go in order but I have day 1, 2, 3, and 5 completed.

 

Week 2 - A-

Day 11 completed.  I still struggle following the daily routines daily but some habits are sticking.  

 

Week 3 - A-

Day 16 completed.

 

Week 4 B

Day 16 completed.  Up to day 19 completed, and then also days 22 and 23 completed.

Not doing as keeping up with the earlier days though.  It will take more practice to make these habits. 

 

Week 5: F

No progress made all week

 

Week 6: A

A few lessons not completed but I read them and made some preparations. 

 

Maintenance goals

Week 1 - mobility happened 4 times, sleep time average 7.2 hours/night, and average water consumption at 54 oz.  I could get more hydration but all else is good.  Score -11 pts

Week 2 - mobility happened 3 times, sleep time average 7.3 hours/night, and average water consumption at 55 oz.  This is an overall improvement over last week.  Scoring -9 points  

Week 3 - mobility got skipped a bit this week since it gets incorporated into running and PT.  Sleep was lower than normal as I was preparing for company and then staying up late with company.  Average 6.7 hours.  Also had a problem with hydration averaging only 44 oz a day.  Score this week was -27.  Definitely worse than last week.  

Week 4 - mobility happened 3 times, sleep time average 8 hours! and hydration average at 70 oz.  First time with a positive score 14 pts.

Week 5 - mobility happened 2 times, sleep average 7.4 hours, and hydration low with 55 oz.  Scored -7 points.

Week 6 - mobility happened a couple times, sleep average 7.1 hours and hydration at 51 oz. scored -14

Fawlty Towers is excellent! The gifs are from (in order): Peep Show (this is fantastic), Red Dwarf, The IT Crowd and Alan Partridge. I never know which of our TV programmes you get over there across the pond but if you can, definitely check out Peep Show.

I finally created the handy dandy spreadsheet and I really like how it works out.  I plugged in MFP data from the last 6 weeks to see how it works with live data.  Using 7 day averages is less volatile so I won't feel as bad after a bad day and it's easy enough to get the average back to where it needs to be if I do go off track.  I'm going to use if during the off weeks as a trial run and make modifications before the challenge starts.

The flylady baby steps are really helpful. I tried to jump in with her regular stuff a few times and failed miserably.  Though I don't quite understand her obsession with shoes.... hahah I have the 30 baby step program on my to-do list for once my roommate moves out.  Looking forward to seeing how you do here.  Good luck!

That's funny.  I thought the same thing about the shoes.  We are a no shoes in the house kind of household so that rule doesn't fly here.  That and I barely get dressed on weekends - unless you count my house/lounge clothes = batman sweatpants with my NF tank.  I'm not sure that's what she has in mind though.  o___O
