No, my goal this challenge is not to look like this at the end...

(I don't look good as a blonde, nor do I have the patience for that hairstyle)

 

*Warning, rambling thoughts and nonsense ahead...you have been warned!*

This will be my 10th challenge here at NF, and while I am not even going to try and lie and say they have all been perfect and successful, I have learned a lot in my almost 18 months here...first thing I have learned is as much as I would like to be, I am not, nor will I ever be, perfect...I am human (and a Scorpio, just so you know how much it pains me to admit the human part! LOL) As such I have always prided myself at doing and succeeding at whatever I set my mind to...like when I quit smoking two years ago, set it down, cold turkey, haven't touched one since...I had set my mind to it and that was that...so WHY is that not working for sugar/crap and exercise?? 

The only thing I have been able to determine is I am too focused on the 'perfect' aspect of it instead of realizing that I am not and allowing for the human aspect...(aka, me) I spend too much time beating myself up when I don't do something (or do, like have a bite of desert that my staff just made from scratch and they're so freaking proud of it, and determine that the rest of the day is down the drain because of it, instead of limiting it to one bite and going on with my life).

So last challenge I realized when I wasn't focused on the "must do this workout this many times a week" to 'get the points' I realized I was doing more than I thought I was, like putting away 115 piece trucks instead of getting up and doing 20 minutes on the elliptical...so I am going to continue that philosophy into this challenge

 

Goals this challenge

Workout 3 times a week

Eat Right (for me this is Paleo, YMMV)

Work on course 3 times a week, at least 30 minutes 

 

Noted items...not challenge goals but need to keep in mind for a healthier work/life balance..

Leave work by 5:30, I have an alarm set on my phone to help with this

Daily Housecleaning Checklist, so it does not get out of hand and overwhelming

I enjoy reading, make time each day to read something (NF and FB doesn't count! I have tons of books on kindle that have not even been opened lol)

 

Ideally I would like to get back to elliptical 3 times a week and kettlebell/bodyweight 2-3 times a week...but it's not about perfect this time :D

Seems like you've learned that the whole points thing isn't working for you. Learned to tweak things around to find what actually does work for you. Signing up to support you on the journey. And because Scorpios rock

Nice goals and interesting articles! I admire your dedication to continued professional certification while you are working a demanding job and juggling everything else.

 

Have you considered getting a pedometer (or an app) to monitor your movement at work? It sounds like some days you get a lot of walking in as part of your job. Other days involve mostly desk work and the 20 minutes on the elliptical would make sense.

Woo Go Red! If it helps at all, I still feel like a complete noob around here and I'm on my eleventh challenge. Learning that you can't do everything perfectly is a pretty good thing to learn and accept. Some people never do. xD

Slug, Striver, or Inegrator

Recognized a bit too much of myself in this article...

 

Day one went okay, 

Breakfast - usual (bacon scrambled with eggs)

Lunch - Cheeseburger Cauliflower Casserole (with bacon)

Dinner - Salmon and kale salad

 

Got the master bathroom cleaned yesterday...been working on schoolwork. My goal is to turn in an assignment every two weeks, which means I will finish and hopefully have my CDM by the end of the year. :)

 

No workouts yet, unless you count scrubbing the bathroom on hands and knees...while I did work up a sweat, it wasn't exactly cardio lol

 

fired one of my F&N employees today

have a EOP meeting tomorrow

My week to cook

managed to leave work before 6 tonight! woo-hoo

Hey, that article is great! An interesting take on the steps (I definitely took) on the way to leading a balanced lifestyle. I like to think of cleaning bathrooms and vacuuming and mopping as mini bosses workouts... But I won't postpone my actual workout just because I did some cleaning :P

Slug, Striver, or Inegrator

Recognized a bit too much of myself in this article...

Recognized my past self in the Slug, then the Striver in about a couple of years back when getting serious about diet and workout. It's great to look back and see how CF and NF have turned everything into a happy lifestyle, paving the way towards Integrator

Today...

let me start by saying that last week while putting away the truck I managed to throw out my back, this is seriously affecting my ability to move and work out. While I move around a lot my legs are going numb to often to feel comfortable trying to do much more than fast walking.

 

Breakfast - usual

Lunch - spaghetti squash

Dinner - salad with chicken and bacon

Left work at 5

 

Off to stalk find threads :)

it does seem that you have to dig through a lot of mud to find the gems, but when you do find a shiny one they are so worth it.

 

I'm a data driven kind of guy so boxes, check-marks and scores really help to keep me focused and on track.  I also need to feel accountable to others, finding NF and these challenges seems just what I needed right now.

Managers are just overpaid babysitters...

 

Went to the chiropractor today, couldn't take my back hurting like that anymore...after putting up a 110 piece truck I could barely walk...must have jacked it up pretty good because he wants me back again tomorrow, ugh, hopefully I will be back to whatever normal is by the weekend

 

Breakfast - usual

Lunch - salad

Dinner - Asian-Inspired Minced Beef

 

Left work by 4:30 (because of chiro) only workout was that truck, and did get some homework done...and I have been reminded how exhausting pain is...not even a good pain dammit!!

Thank you...wouldn't be so bad but it's my sciatic so making my legs go numb...did have the benefit of my staff letting me know they really do care though, three of them got on to me and said that they would be happy to make putting up the truck part of their job duties...which was rather sweet even if unnecessary...had a moment when my icy heart almost melted a bit
