Teirin

Teirin might get her Shodan and remembers that outside exists.

I love that song.  I have not seen the series, but the music for Stand Alone Complex is just awesome, and yes, great for stretching :D.  Nice warm up!  50 burpees wow!!

I'm curious about that zombies run app.  Thinking about looking into it since I haven't jogged or run for a very long time and with music, it helps keep the jog fun.  I like how it integrates to the playlist too...neat!

Anything Ghost in the Shell is usually worth it.

The playlist integration made it funny and definietly made it suck less.  I had thrown everything loud and bouncy into a playlist and called it running music.  So I start it and get:

Intro audio clips re: being in a helicopter getting shot down near a town

BABYMETAL - Iine!

More soundclips - running for the town

Slipknot - Spit It Out

More sound clips + you've found pants!  and medical kits!

Kamelot - The Haunting

etc.

I swear I have music that isn't quite so over the top but this was great to run with.

Yay for getting outside to play frisbee and run!  Good thing you got done before you got badly sunburned.

Hey, you posted a song I already know - that never happens! My partner and roommate love Ghost in the Shell. I've enjoyed the episodes I've watched with them. It builds as a series. The first episodes seem to stand alone, then you start to put together clues. I want to watch more and find out how it ends.

Yay!  That soundtrack is beautiful.  I haven't seen Stand Alone Complex but the original GitS movie convinced me that not all anime was terrible.  Anything GitS is well worth the time.  Any other house favourites?

My intro to anime was not really optimal.  Would not recommend starting anyone off with Ninja Scroll and Legend of the Overfiend. Not good.  I should try Akira again though.  I wasn't sure about that one at the time.  I think I'd already stopped paying attention after the first ones.  Anyone have an opinion on that?

Week 5 Summary:

Judo - One practice on Tuesday and I ended up bowing out for the other two due to feeling crappy and trying to get some sleep.  Hopefully more this week.

Get Outside - Very successful, got out for frisbee and running.

Rest - Thusday evening.  Not much on the weekend.  Lots of recreation and it was fun, but not a lot of rest.

Guitar - Fail.  Still.

In exciting Rest news - I booked off July 23, 24, and 27 from work for a 5 day weekend!  It looks fairly likely to happen!

Thanks :-)

That would make your work extra interesting.

I have the free version too but have not yet tried it.  Will let you know.

Gah, can't really get away from work, especially since you literally live there,

Insomnia used to be a big problem but it's been mostly good of late.  I am not happy with it's return.  Have you found anything to help?

I'd totally work at Jurassic National Park if they opened one. I'd apply to be Superintendent, even. Anybody wanna come? lol

I saw where you tried zombies run. Is yours all audio? I was supposed to look at the screen for mine and I couldn't do that and run. I should probably add that this was 3 years ago. I think I may try it again.

I normally love living at work, but sometimes it can be frustrating. I was late to the chiropractor on Friday because a group of six people showed up on my doorstep and had no idea where they were, wanting a ride back to their car. Which turns out, they also did not know where their car was. There's a sign in front of my driveway that says "Ranger Residence" so its not like I could ignore them,  just get in the car and go.Plus that'd be really mean, and I like to help people. Sometimes though, I don't enjoy it as much because I feel so obligated. eh, I dunno.  BUT on the plus side, there are 3 hiking trails less than 200 meters from my door.

When I run, both insomnia and sleep walking are much less frequent (ugh why don't I start again already?!). Several doctors suggested melatonin. I finally tried it and it does help me. I'll take one before I shower and get ready for bed.  Then when I get in bed, I'm actually sleepy. I cannot read in bed to make myself sleepy, unless it's "The OZ Principles".

My sister swears by writing things down that keep you awake when it's just a busy brain, but it never helps me. Tried an actual medication once, my sleepwalking got crazy. Sorry I'm not more help. Wish I could interview a cat. They seem to have falling asleep mastered.

Fleeing from large predators is definietly one way to get cardio in.  Bit much anxiety though.  Likely not.

Mine was all audio after selecting the mission.  It didn't give directions or anything, just run wherever you want at whatever speed and it provides audio bits at intervals.  It provides some nice stats and information afterwards as well.

Yeah, you very literally never get away from work and you certainly couldn't just say no.  Do you have to warn people when scheduling appointments?  There's notably apps they could have that would help them get back to their car is they were willing to use them :-/

Hmm, sounds like this is worth a go for sleep improvement alone.  Melatonin did nothing for me teh one time I tried it, and supplements are rather dodgy for unlablelled or mislabelled content here.  I may try it again though.  Glad it works for you!

I do find that writing things down that I need to do helps.  It means that I stop trying to remember them.  Doesn't work for dwelling on topics though.

They do.  I do find that having one of the cats on the bed helps. They have aura of sleep.  Unless they're washing.

WHO WOULD RECOMMEND LEGEND OF THE OVERFIEND TO ANY ANIME NOOBIE?!  WHO WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE?!

I...just...man I'm sorry for that intro!  That's just throwing someone into the deep end filled with sharks and jellyfish without giving them any proper floating technique O.O.

I watched Akira after I was well inundated with anime (Slayers, Sailor Moon, and Magic Knight Rayearth are what sucked me in), and I STILL didn't care of it.  Nothing in it seemed to grasp me.  I need to watch the original Ghost in the Shell movie; hopefully on Netflix somewhere.

Some of my friends at the time liked shocking things and shocking people.  Not watching it with them was "being a wuss" and they were my only friends at the time.  They used to set up the first part of Overfiend anytime someone new was over to see if they'd stay.  So I have not only seen the entire thing (3 or 4 parts?) but I've seen the first one at least 5 times.  I learned to tune some things out and we're not friends anymore.  Other friends at the time were going along with the group.  One remaining friend just likes porn and thought it was fine.  We're still friends but we had a blowout not actually terribly long ago over the whole thing.  He's agreed to not rec stuff like that ever again.  He still thinks I'm a bit over sensitive.  I am in some ways but I don't feel that my aversion to murder/torture/rape fests is one of them.

Oddly, I have seen Ninja Scroll rec'd on NF.  Kinda warned the person off that one.  It's about as terrible.

Fallout was that I was fairly resistant to watching anything else and I think I missed out on some actually good stuff they watched as well.  First few eps of Cowboy Bebop (def need to check out again), and something with cats that were also body armour?  Not sure if that was good or not.

Hmmm, good to know.  Thanks.  I do take recs from other people now.  Will check out Slayers and Rayearth.  Sailor Moon was never really my thing and I was rather surprised to find out that it was also anime later.  I had it more classified as a genre, which it really really isn't.  Any of the ones you base challenges on look pretty cool!  Kill la Kill and Gintama and such :-)

Ugh right.  Makes sense; I was a bit of a shocker type too when I was in college, but typically I would only shock people who were already into anime and thus wasn't planning on turning them off from an awesome genre of animation.  As someone who also tends to watch the more...*ahem* 'intense' stuff; it still doesn't make sense to try and introduce someone to anime by showing them porn, even for the hyucks.  Japanese animation is FINALLY losing the reputation of being all about the tentacles.  Anime fans don't need more of that ridiculousness dragging their beloved medium down.

I have not watched Ninja Scroll so I'm not sure what it's about, but my assumption would learn towards extreme violence and naughty situations.  Not something I'm adverse, but generally not what I'd recommend.

Cats with body armor?...I have not heard of that one but IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT'S CALLED DO TELL ME CAUSE I NEED TO WATCH THAT SHIT RIGHT MEOW!

I love Sailor Moon (the old series, the newer one I have...*sigh* issues with); just a part of my childhood I will never let go off.  Rayearth, the first season at least, is awesome and I absolutely love Slayers!  Gintama is a TON of fun; starts off a little slow (in fact the first three eps are really out of place, I would start on ep 4 I think and continue from there) but the more you watch it and more the universe builds, the more it grows on you.  Kill la KIll is just a fantastic but really crazy show.  Both Gintama and Kill la Kill are very fun and really good shows, but can be really jarring and too over the top if you can't get into the universe.  Kill la Kill is pretty short too; if you can enjoy and love Kill la Kill with it's 24 eps, then I think Gintama is a good next choice for it's 200+ episodes.

Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works is great and now I'm watching the 2006 Studio Deen Fate Stay Night.  Also keeping up with One Piece and Naruto, though Naruto needs to like end soon.  I hate the fact that the animators are dragging that show so much.  Hunter X Hunter = AWESOME!  Love it, really great show too.

If you need any more recommendations, let me know!  I watch all kinds of genres, from the classic Shounen, Sports Anime, to Magical Girls, Fantasy, etc.  No form of anime is off limits for me (whether good or bad).

Ninja Scroll was a movie that tended to get recd to prove that anime =/= kids' cartoons.  A bunch of assassins get together and I'm not sure if there's much plot after that.  It's another murder/torture/rapefest in my distant memory.  One friend asks anyone to recs it to provide a summary of the plot.   Nobody has answered yet.  It's apparently got great production quality and soundtrack.

Googled it, it was apparently El Hazard.  The cats WERE the body armour.

All noted.  I did see the earlier Fate/Stay night and loved it.  Saber stands guard over my big bookcase.  I'm fine with over the top and silly.  Sadly, there are many more shows than I have time for.  If you haven't checked out Durarara!!!, you should.  Very good.  Same author as Baccano.

Some original GitS soundtrack music, played live!

Yeah, I understand how that happens. One of the advantages of working in biology is that I could gross out people who tried to do that.

"Sorry, I don't want to watch gory movies with you. I have to deal with enough blood and gore at work. I don't do that on my free time". I was working in the veterinary school after I finished undergrad. I once told a stuck-up guy who condescendingly asked what I did that "I kill pigs for a living". I may or may not have mentioned the experiments I did once they were dead.

Saying "not my idea of a good time" should be enough for any friend. If not, I would reclassify the relationship to acquaintance.

Hehehe, that would indeed work well.  I can only imagine what you came up with :-D

It was the bad end to an otherwise great set of friendships.  They rather literally dragged me out of a bad time in my life and convinced me to have friends again.  There are a lot of happy memories there and I'm a much happier person overall for having known them.  It just didn't end well and the anime intro was tied into part of it.   I get bitter about the end sometimes but try to remember all of the good too.

EL HAZARD. I love El Hazard. Think anime!Arabian Nights. It's done by the same folk who did Tench Muyo, like, the same creative team and such, so you do end up with some harem elements in it, but I like the magitech in the setting and also the overarching story. Although, it suffers from Firefly Syndrome - first couple series are good, but it dies in the middle of the third. That's just me, though.

Also, Gurren Lagann. You need to watch this.

Look what I found! Next week is a stay home on days off week and I think I'm going to play with this some.

http://get.yousician.com/

That looks fantastic!!!  Thanks for passing it on!

Neither of the guys are free for Judo tonight. I think the plan is to go for a run and play some guitar :-)

It was another night of better but still short sleep.

Edit: this made me laugh

Better sleep is good. Hopefully you will get both good and more of it tonight.

LOL from the cat video.

The guitar app looks amazing. If you run into something like that for piano, let me know. I need to learn my chords and don't have a plan of attack for that.

They are doing a Beta for piano. You can apply for the beta via a link on the banner below the title. There's another piano site, but I'll have to get it when I get back to my computer.

Another run in this evening for the get outside goal.  About the same as Sunday.  3.5 km in 24:33 min.  Average pace of about 6:20/km.  The zombies caught me once and I lost a supply.  I was also rather less red when I got home, likely due to lower temperatures and NOT running at noon.  Go planning.

Have also installed PinkNinja's find Yousician.  They appear to be updating their servers.

Rocksmith time :-)

O_O

THAT IS AMAZING.

Also I feel that it is something my neighbor's cat would do.

Isn't that the cat that you kidnap?  Is this why?

Maaaaaaybe.

Seriously, the cat loves shoes for whatever reason.  Like, we have a shoe pile right inside our apartment and the cat just sets up shop on top of them.  No idea why.  He's weird.

Very cool! Teirin, let us know how it works/if it helps! I mean, I already know how to play but I'd love an app to recommend to people who ask me how to learn! =)

So far they're still updating their servers *shrug*  Will keep checking.

Not much challengey going on today.  I'm eyeing the guitar but that's about it.

In a bit of weirdness, more of the feeling is coming back in my right upper chest and shoulder (after the minor surgery in January).  It's a bit funny because if I poke about 2 inches down from my collar bone, the nerves in my upper arm tingle too.

I, too, have the free Zombies Run, though I've been trying to avoid running for the sake of preserving my knees.  Maybe I'll use it for some brisk hiking, or maybe I'll take up the occasional jog.

Do you watch on Crunchyroll?  I tried it out recently, and I just have the worst time with their player.  I haven't managed to actually finish a single episode of anything because of player problems.

Hulu has a ton of anime on it currently.  The hubs and I were browsing through it and man a massive amount of anime on it; so if crunchyroll is not working out, Hulu maybe another good choice.

It's fine for walking too!

I do and it's a bit dodgy at times.  I usually find that dropping video quality down a level sorts it out.

There's also Funimation's YouTube channel.  They have quite a bit and operate rather like CrunchyRoll.  Free to watch but better if you pay the subscription fees, I think.

Work was rather frantic today and it seems some tech support in another time zone will be required.   Adventure of the day/night will be trying to get to sleep around 9 pm or so.  I'll be helping someone at around 4 am or so.  Tomorrow will be interesting.  I am really tired today so I'm trying to embrace it and settle down ASAP.
