Polgara19
Great stories. Amazing characters. Drama. Tears. Humour. Silliness. Comaraderie. Side eyes. This show has it all. Stargate: SG-1 surprised me throughout it's 10 year run. Frequently, I'd start an episode and within the first 5 min I had rolled my eyes since it seemed so formulaic and predictable. I'd force myself to keep watching, and inevitably the episode had more heart and depth than anything I could have predicted. Excellent television. And so for the next 6 weeks, as I pursue a rewatch, I will be taking inspiration from the wonderful men and women of the SGC, as well as motivation from their powerful enemies. As my biggest aim this challenge involves the UP's, I am 'gating in to the assassins. Alright fellow Tau'ri, let's bring it! Quest 1: Stay ahead of the Replicators Damn scary things those replicators, even more so than the Borg. Completely implacable and driven by self-interest. Fast, efficient, adaptable, and seriously resilient. You have to move and think fast in order to stay ahead of them. And really, there's no staying ahead of them. You just have to run fast, and hope hard. I will be running fast. Honestly, a goal of running 3X a week would be easy for me to accomplish, but I'm worried that it would push out my second quest, so I'm going to make the goal 2X a week, and I can go for a third run only after I have completed all 3 of my 'UPs workouts (see below). Quest 2: Arms like SG-1 Oh. My. Look at those arms! Even though I'm a woman, I've always identified with Daniel, as I'm an archaeologist. If I can develop arms like* Daniel, then I'll be a very happy lady. My long term goal is 3 sets of 10 toe pushups. Right now, I can do 2-3, then finish the set from my knees. By the end of of the next 6 weeks, I would like to be able to do.... 5 toe pushups before finishing the set. Though I may adjust this goal later on. My second arm goal is a pull up. I am dreadfully far from this, but I will work on it. In this challenge, I will do 3 workouts a week that challenge the 'UPs (pull and push). *Yes, I know I don't want them to look like Daniel's arms. It's a dream, not a goal. Quest 3: Don't snack like Jonas, share like Teal'c Jonas Quinn never replaced Daniel in my heart, but he always seemed to be snacking. This is one of my biggest problems, bingeing on sweets alone. Once again, I will not be eating any sweets alone for 6 weeks. I can eat healthy things, but if I want a sweet I need to eat in the company of someone. I can too easily binge when I'm alone, but the company of others makes me exercise greater self control. Last challenge, I rewarded myself with a spa day for not eating sweets alone for 6 weeks and it worked really well. This time, my reward is going to be smaller. If I manage 6 weeks not eating sweets alone, I will buy myself a new book I have been coveting: Mary Robinette Kowal's final Glamourist Histories book Of Noble Family. This week I have four million things going on, and I'm feeling very overwhelmed. I will try to eat well, but the challenge doesn't start until next Monday. I will update with starting weight and measurements then. 8 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! A new 2 hour commute (1 way) has totally derailed my days, and I get home totally wiped and guilty for not seeing my kiddies. Too much chocolate. Not enough movement. Will try to get to the gym tomorrow morning, but it's been a long enough break that I'm not sure whether to kickstart strength or running. Running is easier, so should probably do strength. Polgara19
So I went back to the gym finally yesterday. It was my first time back in two weeks, and I started working on my 'UPs goals. I warmed up, then did 3 pull-ups negatives. Then I did 3 sets of 5 assisted pull-ups with 55lbs assistance. Whew. Then I did 3x8 squats with 10lbs on the bar, 2 30 secs plank, and 3X10 pushups with the first 3 of each set being toe pushups. Finally, I did 3X8 rows with 20lbs. This is me this morning: I almost had to ask for help putting on my bra... Nowhere to go but up! Ran away from things this morning too! Went out with my daughter, who rode her bike. She's not very fast, so we only went for 1.5 km in 13 min, but it was something! 5 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! Polgara19
Am very proud that today I managed to not get Tim Hortons when I got off the bus at work today. My bus arrives 30 min before I have to start, and in the past two weeks, I have been indulging in a muffin or hot chocolate on my way in. At the last minute though, I remembered that the challenge had started and that I wasn't supposed to be snacking like Jonas. So I went to work, worked all day, enjoyed my homemade lunch without dessert, ate my veggies, ate my pear, drank my water, then got french fries from McDonald's on my way home. Sigh. Still sore from working on pull ups on the weekend. Will try to get back to it tomorrow. Not a great start... 1 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! Polgara19
Thanks guys, I think I'm just really struggling with the new routine having a new job. I no longer have the time or energy to be going to the gym in the mornings anymore, and we are interviewing nannies in the evenings, so I'm not getting it done. On the plus side the eating is going.... ok. I'm down to 66.7kg as of this morning, and hoping to continue the downward trend. Also, I was planning on skipping the Assassin mini challenge, but now I think I could use the extra motivation to get the work done. 2 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! Polgara19
Today is the first day that my back hasn't been killing me from the pull-up training I did on the weekend. Can you believe it? Clearly I need to do more work because this be kwazy! I'm not doing so well avoiding the sweets this time. I'm cheating in spirit if not in letter, and honestly, I think it might be because I don't want my reward quite as much. So I'm slacking. There was food left over from an event at work, and while I waited until someone else had one, I grabbed two nanaimo bars instead of just one. Then I got fries after work. Again. After I got the kids to sleep, I just really wanted something sweet to stuff in my mouth. I knew it wouldn't make me feel better, but I just wanted it anyways. Avoided the temptation, but I'm feeling low. I'm exhausted too, so I'm pretty sure I won't be making it to the gym at 6am tomorrow morning either. Sigh. I don't need a kick up the ass so much as to just acknowledge that things are tough right now. New job, new schedule, no sleep (not new, but no better). My biggest goal is the mommy pooch I have, so the most important part of this for me is the sweet snacking like Jonas. Maybe I need to up the stakes a bit, trot out something shinier... Well, stay tuned for more shlumping around. Clearly am not bursting with energy as last challenge! 1 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! Polgara19
Well, I went back to the gym this morning, and I'm feeling pretty good for it. Yesterday, I did a couple of random sets of pushups and bodyweight rows through the day for the assassin's mini. I even did a couple of side kicks with my daughter to attack the troll. Somehow, I expected going to the gym this morning to feel like this: But it didn't, I feel great and energized. I know I always do, but it's been hard since I got this new job to find the time or energy to go at 5:50am. I'll figure it out. At the gym this morning, I warmed up while watching Murdoch Mysteries, then did some pull up training. Yeah, my lats are still stiff from my pull-up training Monday night too. And I'd intended to do more tonight. But I guess it was just too long ago that I had it worked into my regular weight lifting routine so it'll take time to re-build it. If you do pull-up training today, maybe take it a little easier? Don't want to over-do it so that you can't actually do them at all! I did some assisted pull-ups, but skipped the upright rows, so hopefully I won't have such terrible DOMS this time. Elinox, I think I am just badly out of practice and it will take time too! I then did some planks, pushups and squats. Then I was headed out, but since the weight room wasn't too busy, I diverted at the last minute to an empty weight bench and did some bulgarian split squats. Ouch The bench was higher than the one I had done my AMRAPs on for the mini, and I felt it! Whoo boy. Think the ole' legs will be sore tomorrow too. On the plus side, I didn't have any sweet snacks by myself. Also, I hit 65.5kg (144lbs) this morning! 2 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs!
