Hi, I'm maigrey and I have a habit of trying to do ALL THE THINGS!!

 

So, for this challenge, I am going to keep it ridiculously simple.  The plan is to smash this challenge and instill some habits and then I can take on some other habits in the next challenge, and be at the top end of the curve:

In keeping with the not doing ALL THE THINGS, I'm going to work from a balanced triangle perspective:

BODY: Eat like an athlete.

  1. No Sugar: eating sugar makes me feel lethargic, headachey, and makes me want to eat more sugar.  This means I'm going to suck it up and drink my coffee black.
  2. No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: This piggybacks on #1.  If I can't have sugar, I end up stuffing my face with pasta, bread, and other what have you carbs.  Some is okay, but I need to have limits on it.  This makes oatmeal, a bagel, or tamago kake gohan acceptable.
  3. Once per week, I may have up to 2 alcoholic drinks outside of my home: Alcohol has been creeping back into my life.  It's not something I need to ban, but again I need limits, otherwise I will go back to using booze as a social crutch.  I'm trying to work through my social anxiety issues, and booze doesn't help with that.  Also, there's no real reason I need to drink at home; I can save that for when I'm out.

 

MIND: Write up task list for the next day by 7 pm

  • My day goes so much better if I have a game plan.  I am not a morning person, so this really needs to be done the night before, but early enough that I don't say 'fuckit too tired, will do tomorrow', because it never gets done tomorrow.

 

SPIRIT: Journal or blog for 10 min a day

  • I also am 500% more sane and happy when I do a mind dump on the day before I go to bed.  I have really gotten out of the habit of doing this, and it's been detrimental.

 

THE EVENT / TASK LIST:  There's a bunch of other stuff I need to do, that aren't daily tasks, so they're listed here.

  • Konmari method my clothes
  • Get passport renewed for Australia trip
  • Declutter kitchen
  • Deal with bills
  • Deal with home insurance done! June 8, 2015

Task list for tomorrow:

* find out what's needed to renew passport

* take care of home insurance

* review email

* approve expense reports

* get nails done

* take wrigley to the vet

a little rearranging would make this more interesting

I like you challenge a lot. I too struggle with over complication. It is a strange catch-22 for me, because if it isn't complicated I can't get into it-yet if it isn't complicated at all I hate it. Though I tend to live in constant contradictions. I'll be cheering you on, and I wish the best for you in this challenge.

Putting off nails until tomorrow as I'm meeting up with a friend to go watch the hawks game, and a nap needs to be had.

Did get through some of my email. but didn't really dedicate time to it like I should have, so that's going back on the list.

Got home insurance taken care of today, though, hooray.  Note to y'all don't let it accidentally lapse even if you thought your escrow was paying it and they're not.

Week 1 Day 1 Summary:
 
No sugar: 1/7 - Hooray, although the cravings were there
No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 1/7 - unhappily, but yes.  

1x week booze: 1/1 - had a radler while watching the hawks game, so no more booze for me until next week [really shouldn't be an issue]

Task list: 1/7 - Yep! posted at 5 pm even!
Journal or blog: 0.5/7 - I was so tired when I got home that all I wanted to do was sleep, but I journaled for 5 min, which is at least something
Event / Task List items completed: Dealt with home insurance!
 
I went out to a bar with friends to watch the Blackhawks game, which was nice, but I'm reminded why I don't go out on week nights, as I am so exhausted this morning.  The tireds also could be related to the fact that I had to be up at 6 since Margaret gets here to clean at 7 am - a nap is definitely in my future!

Week 1 Day 2 Summary:
 
No sugar: 2/7 - not so bad with cravings today
No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 2/7 - I did have two bagels w/pb at breakfast because I was starving the day before, but both before 10 am  

1x week booze: 1/1

Task list: 2/7 - a little later than 7, but it's done
Journal or blog: 0.5/7 - procrastinated and then was just too tired to do it.

I was still incredibly sore from Murph day on Saturday.  I debated going to lift yesterday, but workouts were heavy singles and considering I'm still wincing when I walk, that's was not going to happen. I spent a good 30 min in the bath with epsom salts last night, and am still sore this morning, but nothing too bad, so I went and worked out.

Workout today was all the Jerks and Good Mornings.  I really struggled at 85 & 90%, and really didn't realize until now how much of a jerk is leg-dominant.  My legs are still on fire, and that really affected my ability.  Learn something new every day, I guess!

Week 1 Day 3 Summary:
 
No sugar: 3/7 - chug chug chug
No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 2.5/7 - 0.5 because I did have a chicken wrap sandwich on the way to the game, and 2 of my friend's cheese curds.  But for going to a sporting event?  This is fabulous

1x week booze: 1/1 - I even registered for the designated driver program and got a free fountain drink (which I didn't use...)

Task list: 3/7 - granted, I did this at 11 pm, but it's done

I fully intended to journal on the bus ride to and from the Blackhawks game; I instead ate my sandwich on the bus ride there and tried to go through email.  On the way back, my friend who went with me took the bus back my direction, and I figured it would be rude to pop out my journal and ignore him.  And then I got home and the dogs had to be dealt with and and and... Man, it was SO HARD to get out of bed this morning, but this was worth it:

No sugar: 4/7 - movin' along, although I long for ice cream something fierce.
No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 3.5/7 - had more peanut butter than I should, but it wasn't 'sit and eat it out of the jar' eating pb, so that's fine

1x week booze: 1/1 

Task list: 4/7 - I'm totally missing the 7 pm deadline, but as long as I get it done before bed, that's fine
Journal or blog: 1.5/7 - 10 minutes can be so long when you're doing something you're dreading (although I don't even know why I'm dreading it)

Yesterday I was just exhausted and by the time laundry and costco came around, I was just done.  So I looked at my schedule and saw that today was pretty open, so I planned to go to costco and drop off laundry after my 10 am meeting.  Success!  I needed last night - I lounged around and snuggled with the puppies and watched the remaining few episodes of iZombie I hadn't finished.  The show is campy, and full of sterotypes, but it's witty and fun, and by the same person who created Veronica Mars, so I'm in. Plus, since I had all evening, I had no excuse not to journal; I was still pretty resistant but bested my ego this time.

 

Of course this morning I woke up with a hacking cough (which has since subsided), but I'm guessing me being under the weather explains a lot about the fact that I've been tired all this week [that, and carb flu].

Ugh, so this weekend was basically a wash.  Friday I woke up with stupid hacking cough, and I've been out of it most of the weekend.  I DID make it in to Oly class which was an almost 2 hour workout, and then a delayed wedding reception (they got married a couple months ago, and it was the party for friends). But Sunday was a complete wash. I woke up with hacking cough and stuffed up sinuses and basically didn't do anything but lie around and read and eat bagels with PB.

 

I think I may need to work out a @raptron type 'not feeling well' chart instead of a rainy day chart.

 

I woke up and 4:45 am today and couldn't get back to sleep, so I am zombgrey today.

 

Week 1 Day 5 Summary:
No sugar: 5/7 - I avoiding falling into the ice cream pit, at least.
No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 3.5/7 - Nope; had sushi for lunch as other food just seemed unedible, and then hit the PB&bagels for dinner

1x week booze: 1/1 

Task list: 4/7 - I had a mental one, but didn't write it down

No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 3.5/7 - Nope; see above with the falling face first into the sugar and burgers with buns etc.

1x week booze: 2/1 - yeah, I had drinks at the party.  And I had 3 instead of 2 [although it did go from 4:30 to 10:30... but still]

Journal or blog: 1.5/7 - no surprise, this didn't get done either

Okay, I know that I was not feeling well, but obviously I need a course correction, and my biggest struggle was journaling.  That's not working, so I either need to 1) decide to blog all week this week or 2) shorten my journaling time until it's ridiculously easy that I would be utterly embarrassed to skip it.  Also, not having a plan when I'm not feeling well is just self destructive, and I need my own version of the 'rainy day checklist'.

 

I am going to modify the journal goal this week to be "journal TWO MINUTES" every day [option #2], and I'm also going to add the under the weather checklist to my event/task list - but the plan is to get that one done by the end of this week.

 

And to take my own advice, this is week one, and thus my path is now this:

Do you have a time set aside in your daily routine that might work for your journalling/blogging? Maybe you can sneak it in near something that you always have to do like brushing teeth or feeding the dogs?

 

Yay for a not-feeling-well flowchart! I'm not sure if you are a visual reminder person, but I found that printing it out and putting it in my house made me comply much, much better to it. :)

Do you have a time set aside in your daily routine that might work for your journalling/blogging? Maybe you can sneak it in near something that you always have to do like brushing teeth or feeding the dogs?

 

Yay for a not-feeling-well flowchart! I'm not sure if you are a visual reminder person, but I found that printing it out and putting it in my house made me comply much, much better to it. :)

My problem here is that 1) journaling in the morning doesn't do a whole lot for me; my mind is mostly 'uhhhhhh'.  It's really better if I journal in the evening.  But the problem with that is 2) I have no real set schedule.  For example, today I have a chiro appointment (again) at 5 pm and then out to dinner with friends at 7, and I'll get home late etc.  Each day is different.  But I'll think about that.

 

Week 2 Day 1 Summary:
So this happened:

I stayed in to watch the game due to not feeling well and the torrential rain.  I'm not sure if that was the right decision, as there's obviously a different energy with it being me from watching at home, versus out at a bar.  But, I DID get the rest of my task list done, and not going out meant I didn't drink, which is also a good thing.
 
Because of not feeling well, I gave myself a pass on the no carb line today.  I didn't stuff my face with bagels, and instead had rice with egg for lunch and dinner.  It was all that really seemed palatable, and on the spectrum of carbs, rice is really not that terrible.
 
The 2 min limit on journal time really did help.  I was exhausted after the game and really just wanted to go to bed, but 2 minutes is so small of a time limit, how could I not write something?  I think I wrote for about 5 min, and then fell asleep, only to wake up coughing at 3 am.  Stupid hacking cough.  But I went back to sleep quickly, and I'm ready to tackle Tuesday.

No starchy/processed carbs after 10 am: 0/6

1x week booze: 0/1
