Swampling Posted June 8, 2015 Report Share Posted June 8, 2015 Goal #1: Elements practice 6x / weekI finished the current round of the Movement Multivitamin, but before I get back to Floor 1 practice, I'd like to work on the basics some more. Enter the Elements program, where I'll be working on three movement patterns: Bear, monkey and frogger. While I have no big problems with the range of motion in any of the basic variations of these, I'm sadly lacking in strength and stamina - especially my legs start complaining after about a minute or so of froggering about. This could definitely need more work, so that's what I will do. The program will take me 7 weeks to work through, starting week 1 today. In addition to Eements, I'm still taking yoga classes and kettlebell classes. Goal #2: Keep the (Emo) Sugar Monster at bay (2 - 3 Sugar Monsters / week)Same thing we do every challenge, Pinky... try to take over the world keep the sweets in check, aim for 2 - 3 Sugar Monsters per week, and be extra careful around the Emotional variety. Goal #3: Keep a health journal 7/7 days a week I'm still working on some health issues (namely trying to get that pesky Raynaud's in check). Among other things, I'll probably have to start taking meds to improve the bloodflow . Data geek that I am, I'm kind of curious how the things I do will affect my (well-)being in general and some symptoms in particular. Ergo: collect ALL the data. I don't know about the progress in 7 weeks, but my shoulders and hamstrings are already noticing that I'm doing something new. GMB practice today in the morning: 3 minutes bear crawl, 1 min. rest, 2 min bear crawl, 1 min rest, 1 additional minute bent arm bear crawl. Plus kb class in the evening. Fun! And there will be DOMS to pay. Another smallish Sugar Monster today - had a cookie / chocolate bar for dessert, though this was not one of the Emo Monsters. Journalling done. Still, I did my practice in the morning (which was thankfully stretching day, basically, plus an additional minute of bent arm bear crawls). There were Sugar Monsters, though, and rather emotional ones. Could have been much, much worse, considering it had been three very emotional days.(I had been attending a personal development workshop as translator for the coaches / trainees (one of the coaches is English and doesn't speak much German, some of the trainees didn't speak much English), and especially day 3 was heavy on the psychology stuff. Having to put some of other people's deepest feelings into my own words was not an easy job - at least it wasn't for me.) Daily journal happend, too. W1 D4: Holy Cossack Squat, Batman! I could barely crawl out of bed this morning, and my thighs were still screaming DOMSy insults at me. Even before I started with monkey practice. I only made it through one minute of monkey-ing around, then another minute of bent arm bear, and that was it for today. At least there weren't any Sugar Monsters lurking around! Swampling Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2015 W1 D5: Elements practice in the morning (still a bit sore from kb class, glad it's stretching day!) + 1 minute bent arm bear. Osteo appt later in the a.m., so no yoga in for me that day. Don't want to overstretch any of my carefully rearranged joints. No Sugar Monsters in sight. Short visit with Rosie, but only for doing her room service. For anything else it's simply too warm (30°C/ 86°F). Journaling done. W1 D6: Elements practice in the morning, legs are still (!) a bit sore from kb class on Tuesday (!). Only two minutes of frogger (total, 1 min each with 1 min rest in between), and 1 min of BAB practice. I notice that I'm shifting my weight more towards my feet in BAB when I move one of the arms forward. I need to work on that and keep the shoulders more forward! I did eat two pieces of cake - but it was for a good cause (or so I keep telling myself). I went to the 25th anniversary celebration of my friend's riding club, so all the money from their buffet sales will directly go to the club. It was a fun afternoon, great weather, good show acts (trick riding, camel riding etc.) - and not to forget that yummy cake! Had an accordingly bad night with too little sleep (the thunderstorms that finally caught up with us didn't help there, either). Thank God today was a) Sunday and rest day. Sugar Monsters? If there had been any, they wouldn't have stayed long. Journaling - almost done for today. We have been getting pummeled with thunderstorms too. Kind of messed up some of my riding plans for this weekend. I guess I need to just get used to getting wet. My goals are rather minimalist this time around (again), but that seems about the amount I can handle right now. Baby steps, eh? The stomach bug is already getting better, though I'm still feeling a bit under the weather. We'll see what tomorrow will bring. It wasn't one of my best or most successful weeks - still dealing with the aftermath of the stomach thing, meaning I only did 4/6 Elements practices. Also, no kb class. I didn't get enough sleep by a long shot, that might have invited some major Sugar Monsters. I think I had about 700g (rough guesstimate, I DID share with my colleagues) of chocolate - divided over 4 days. I do believe there's plenty of room for improvement. At least the journaling was done 7/7 days. So far, I like Elements very much - though the first two weeks of assessment were still pretty "easy" (ha! Tell that to my thighs when it's frogger or monkey day!). The real "fun" started today with some work on the bent arm bear. In total, practice doesn't take up that much time, but it really kicks my butt!It's a very humbling (but somehow still fun! ) experience. It might be the stomach bug, as well - those can make you feel a bit sluggish... Hopefully you'll be in full health soon!
